Here's one of my latest old Craftsman rebuilding projects.
It's a 4-3/8" Craftsman jointer AKA a Craftsman 40, Actual model# is 103.20680
It's powered buy 1HP. Dayton 1725 RPM 3-phase motor with a DIY motor mount.
I replaced the arbor bearings and installed new knives.

The stand was made from some left-over oak flooring & old pallets, The bottom shelf/base is made from several layers of oak for added weight.

Looks great, that is one of the better fences that Craftsman made for their jointers.

Re: Craftsman "40" Jointer Rebuild

Nice job, love the stand and motor mount.
Thanks for the complement!

I'm pretty happy with the way it came together!
Nothing was drawn out & it was sort of a trial & error process with some scrap wood & a few old pallets, Best part is that all of the materials were free or left-over from other projects.

Yeah I like the center post style mounting over the ones that are on the end of the table. Being aluminum it does flex a little bit with heavy stock or when applying moderate pressure against the fence. I'm thinking of making a adjustable support that can be positioned towards the in-feed side of the fence.

I was surprised at it's weight. :D
It probably weighs more than most 6" jointers I've seen.

I would not put that in my shop, except if I were using it ! It needs to be put on display !

What did you use for paint on the body ?

I used True Value Hardware's X-O Rust Brand bronze,
111511.jpg

It was referred to by a OWWM article as a close match to the Craftsman "Power Bronze" color.

I've also read that, Rustoleum 261415 Champagne Mist metallic spay paint is a very good match for the "Power Bronze" color.

Dwall174,

That Rebuild and the stand are so damn pretty. Great job!

Question: is that a wooden tailgate I see in front of your garage?

Thank's!

Yeah it's wood! In fact probably too good of wood for a tailgate, But it was free :rolleyes2
It's made from an old basement cellar door that was well over 60 years old. The wood is all old-growth tongue & groove yellow-pine.

That's not the first wooden tailgate this truck has had, I use to pull a 5th. wheel trailer with this truck & I made a wooden tailgate for that also.
