I've got full sets of their metric and standard reversibles that I've used quite a lot for nearly two years now. No problems here. I don't use them to break stubborn stuff loose often but they've given me no reason to see them as fragile.

Seems like I got the starter sets cheaper than the OP using Advance Auto coupons on top of them being on sale there.

while i am sure that the additional parts make them more susceptible to breakage, i have never broken a gearwrench ratcheting wrench, and i have both styles.

i have also never broken a socket wrench.

i have long pattern wrenches and breaker bars for when things get tough. the cursing usually causes me to remember this.

I got the reversibles and they are fine. They arent really long enough to use serious leverage

I have the reversibles and haven't had any problems. I would rather have them than the non-reverse or whatever they call it. Seem strong enough to me.

never used the reversible but did see Menards had the full 20pc set of regular gearwrench including both SAE and Metric for $34.99 after $5.00 rebate this weekend...that's a pretty good price IMO, but maybe cheaper on BF...

I saw these while in a TSC a few weeks ago. Was tempted until I started playing with them and found 2-3 already locked up in the package. That's pretty bad QC even at the price point.

I picked up that same set of torx and hex bits from TSC a month or so ago. The best I could find to compare it to is a similar set with 39 or so bits on amazon. And comparably, the TSC set is a good deal. Plus it's nice to have both internal and external torx. Made it a point to get a set after opening up an alternator and not having them.

I've had these for a while and have never had an issue. Use them all the time. The reversibles are great. To me much better then my other set without the switch.

Is this a good deal? I can't seem to find this set anywhere else.

It's listed as part # 40424A at Advance auto for $60 and might be at a few other places under that number as well. I did some quick searches and it looks like a solid price for the amount and variety you get. I didn't find too many directly comparable sets as torx and hex are often sold separately in smaller kits of that size. I did find a Capri set that is similar in size(35 pc), but torx only from Home Depot for $28.61 w/ free shipping. I believe that was an online only item and stores do not carry it. That Capri stuff is lifetime warrantied, but I assume you would have to call them and mail in the old tool for warranty purposes. With the gearwrench, you should be able to exchange it at Tractor Supply or a variety of other places that carry it.

You are correct. I purchased the 40424A set at AAP last year. It retails for about $60 but AAP often runs specials on GW products so (I believe) my final price was somewhere about $35 OTD.

I was just picking up a carb kit at Advance yesterday and noticed while standing there that they have a sign on these sets for 50% off which brings the price right in line with what you found.

That'd bring a full SAE/Met set to about the same price I got the none reversing for last year.

I may have to dig the couch for change.

I know the reverse mechanism is adding a failure mode but for my uses I don't think it'd ever be a problem.

Dropped off some used oil this morning and can confirm that the set you refer to is normally $99 but is on sale for 50% off.

The closest set that is similar is bits, is this set from Sears. More often than not, it is priced at $30.

The craftsman set leaves a few torx or hex bits out, to replace them with a 3/8 ratchet, and extension, and 3/8" -> 1/4" adapter, & philips/blade screwdriver bits. The GW also has tamper-proof bits, which is nice just in case. I'd say the GW is a much better buy. Glad I got rid of my Craftsman in the last garage sale.

Advance had the Torx bit set on sale a few months ago for 39.99. It's unlikely it will go back on sale for another few months.

Title says 7pc but picture shows 8, verbal description lists 8 distinct sizes, plus measuring tape, 9533P, $19.99 at NAPA (please don’t think I’m recommending these, I’d feel bad to encourage anyone to buy GW reversibles)
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/APA9533P

Metric 9543P, again lists 8 sizes, $19.99 includes tape
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/APA9543P

IOW same as OP, $10 cheaper and a tape

Same set is $19 at Napa for Cyber Monday (available now online with free shipping) and comes with a Lufkin tape measure.
