That's hella money. Didn't someone on here score one for $100 a couple months ago?

That one was missing the swivel base and had no handle either. It was really rusty too.
(I bought it anyway) Seller said his phone was ringing off the hook with other potential buyers.

UPDATE:
The C/L posting is gone..."deleted by author" which almost always means it is sold. That is a good indication of the value of a Reed 4C

Holy smokes that's crazy! I have a Reed vise that I got from my dad. He bought it out of a customer's trunk decades ago for $20. Back when we had Concord Rentals, he bought all kinds of stuff off customers.

The Reed they're talking about weighs a little under 200lbs...

I'd say it's pretty rare even on this forum.

Old Craftsman Table Saw 8 or 10" not sure - $10

I know that they're not the best but someone should save it from the scrap yard.

54" Snap on Tool Box w/top chest - $400

Apparently it's also loaded with body shop tools. It didn't sound like a scam either. I contacted him but after 5 days it's gotta be gone by now.

That's an insane deal for the boxes alone. It would have probably sold within minutes here in the Bay Area.

I do hope you get it.

Here's a nice old drill press in Hayward. Probably not worth it at the price point unless you're collecting Tom Lee though.

Tomlee Table Top Drill Press - $75

Here's another free craftsman table saw in Concord? Ca.

It's got a rolling base and vega fence. I would be all over it for parts alone if it weren't so far away and I didn't have 4 table saws currently.

Still there this morning...
The Philly metropolitan area has 6 million residents. How come NONE of them recognize a total steal price on a huge Snap On box stuffed with snappy and matco tools?
Here you could sell off all the tools and have a free box stack. Or sell the bottom OR the top box and have a free box and lots of tools!

:dunno:

Yeah I texted him directly and never heard back. I'm assuming he either missed an additional "0" in that price, or it sold same day and he doesn't know how to take down the post.

Hmm not sure how I missed this one.

I've been meaning to check this out for a while now. This person has been liquidating tools for the past few months and posting up various craigslist ads.

This is the only thing I saw in the ad of value.

Fremont, CA

The sander looks interesting too at $200 but it's one of those huge ones that I would never need.

5 Drawer Lista/Vidmar with casters - $180 (Antelope Valley, LA, CA)

Looks like a Vidmar without the plastic handle end caps and in good shape.

Can't believe I'm passing on this one and I'm betting the price can come down. I would bet $150 would be accepted over the phone. These are perfect for fitting under workbenches (probably 34" H).

"See attached photo
It is large and holds a lot, has nice casters.

$180.00"

Very complete L.S.Starrett socket set ...Not sure if $150 is a deal, certainly rare
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/atq/d/s-starrett-company-socket-set/6381583349.html

Thats about the typical selling price on ebay for them and even lower. They're definitely an uncommon Starrett item and not seen often, most people are not aware that they made socket & ratchet sets in '20's, first designed in 1916 but they're more for collectors than for a user compared to Starretts other items of same era. The #443 part number is now used for depth micrometer. Not sure if even the sockets would fit modern bolts and nuts as its was made before SAE and United bolt and thread standards well after WWI. Starrett made revisions with 443A & 443B

That set is missing one socket and one or two other items, so it's not complete but close.

It's certainly worth posting here as it's a very cool and rarely known about.

I used to work facilities and got to know the cintas fire guy so I already have a ton of (free) Industrial sized fire extinguishers but I figured some of you garagejournal guys might be in need. I put them in all my cars, garage, house, etc. Never know when you'll need one.

My friends tend to take them and I make crucibles out of mine also. Unfortunate that they're not all full and you have to take a pallet though...

1950's Band saw, bench top, craftsman - $70

https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/tls/d/band-saw-bench-top-craftsman/6383579341.html

1950's Craftsman 3 wheel band saw. It's in really great shape for its age.
They just don't make quality tools like this anymore.
It has its original 1/2 hp motor...
Cast iron frame and table.
Table size is 12" x 12"
Cutting height is 3.5"
Cutting width is 12"
This is a heavy duty saw, and powerful enough to cut almost anything...depending on cutting blade.
62" blades...comes with (4) different blades.

Hate Selling this saw but it's time to upgrade...that's it.

Thanks @michaelwolson!! ...it was a Performax 22-44 Plus with the enclosed cabinet. :rocker::beer: It needs a few small parts but is in very good condition overall.

Awesome! I'm glad you got. I wanted it seeing as how I could never afford/justify a new one.

Found a couple interesting ones that popped up.

Craftsman? Walker Turner? Bandsaw - $25

00W0W_aY1LTjHxc6D_600x450.jpg

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/tls/d/bandsaw-electric-vintage/6393681297.html

I believe it's a 12"er. Looks very similar to my Walker Turner 12"er.

This one's not a "hot deal" IMO for most people on this forum but the stand is very rare, especially in the Bay Area. I wonder if he's a member of this forum. Guy did a great restoration on the saw and I think it's actually priced low for what you get. I would buy it just for the stand personally.

Looks great but would be scary to use with that set up. I have a Craftsman block grinder on that same stand which is marginally Ok for what I do. But that table extension is really heavy and being outboard of the center of gravity is very unstable.
I have that same Craftsman table saw model that I inherited from my FIL.
When the extension is on, a guy has to be careful. My home made stand is a lot wider than that single post factory stand.
That is NOT the stand that Sears sold to accompany that saw! :shocking:
(But it looks really cool IMHO)

My mistake...
You are right.
I didn't notice how short the pole was. My grinder stand is much taller. Duh!
Did you notice the "power bronze" color on your first pic?
I was debating using that color for the repaint on my Craftsman 100 drill press, but I went with gray instead.

I have seen ads with that table saw mounted on a factory 4 legged stand made of angle iron type legs with 2 small wheels mounted so that the stand sits flat and steady but when tilted, it rolls.

Here is a pic from google images showing the stand I got when I inherited my FIL's saw.
It was wobbly, rusty and didn't roll very well over my cracked concrete patio so I got rid of it and built one with 2 large rubber wheels.

Yeah. I wouldn't have thought it an original Craftsman product until I looked it up. It might have been standard equipment on the Craftsman model 80 saws.

The pedestal is probably more rare because, even 50 years ago, brothers thought it looked too much like it would tip over.

My mom sold one of those overclock sewing machines a few years ago for like $350. She got a lot of responses for it, and it sold in like a day.

Yea those industrial machines are expensive. Surprised it lasted even as long as it did.

Craftsman Drill Press - $50

It was originally posted for $100 last week and I was not impressed. At $50 though it might be a good buy to someone. It's too far away or I'd get it.

Wilton C1 for $175

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/tls/d/wilton-vise/6398849968.html

For this area, that's a great price even if it needs a bit of work to look its best. Many of us here consider the C series to be the best Wiltons ever.

If I didn't already have a nicer one, I wouldn't post it here because I'd already be on my way to pick it up.

I've read multiple post here on GJ about sticking to the $1/pound for vises, but I am assuming it doesn't apply to the C series Wiltons or Reeds?

A wise man once said you can have it good, quick, or fast, but not all three.
If you cruise Craigslist 10 times a day for a year in maybe a 25 mile radius of a major city you MIGHT find a nice Wilton C1 for $60. But a couple of other guys will probably already be in their trucks on their way to pick it up.
If you greatly value your time, you can get a nice Wilton C1 for around $500 just about any time you want. Or get a high quality fixer upper vise and do a lot of work on it.
Your choice

You can read GJ stories about guys lucky enough to find almost unbelievable deals on Reeds, Wilton bullet vises, etc but nobody lists the hundreds of hours or hundreds of miles involved in fruitless C/L searches, dead end garage sales, or wandering around flea markets to uncover those few gems.
If you're not in it for the thrill of the hunt, I recommend just buying a nice vise at the going price and be happy.
