I prefer to always have my garage doors closed. This way people wont know when I'm home or gone. Also it keeps my garage more private as well.

I like to control the humidity in mine and keep it at fifty percent so we keep them closed and the heat on low to keep the temp 55 to 60.

I'm far enough out in the sticks that I leave them open most of the time, weather permitting.

I leave mine closed unless I am in it, around it as I've had people walk in, take stuff. As well as leaving stuff in my old jeep, people take stuff out of that too.I could go on......

Depends on the weather... and I'm lucky that I have a huge setback and the door doesn't face the street.

I like to have it open if I am in it. Like to see what's happening outside, plus the dogs can lay around in the grass. But if I'm not, it's closed.

If I'm not in it, closed and locked. If I am in it and it's nice outside, the door is open so everyone else can hear how great my musical tastes are.

Closed unless I'm working in it, or it's really hot or cold inside and I'm trying to moderate the temperature. My garage door is 80 feet from the street and between the 12 foot gap in between houses, so it's pretty hard to scope out what's in there.

I'm 600 feet off the road but there's not much in between me and the road. I'll open mine up when its nice out, but I have 2 friends on my road that like to stop by whenever the door is open, which is a pain in the *** when your working on something. I'm not much of a people person lol

Wyattrose69, I have problems leaving my doors open just like you. For some reason friends want to stop in and talk when I want to work. I even have one that likes to smoke and I have told him a thousand times about that.

Even though I am retired I still work on occasion on my things and don't need help or company. My shop is not an entertainment center like some think.
My doors are closed and locked this time of year which is nice. I am sure not what it would take for people to take a hint :)
I don't visit them so stay away from me. Tom

We have a Liftmaster opener that closes the door automatically after 15 minutes unless I press the hold button. I really like this feature as I don't have to worry if I forgot to clost it at night. (I have a few times). Also we do get solicitors who have no problem just walking into the garage when the door is up. No sidewalks and a steep drive should keep them out, but no.

I am retired and in spring, summer and fall if the weathers good all doors wide open. Neighbors pop in and we shoot the breeze, arrange for me to do repairs/maintenance on their equipment and relax. One neighbor did notice I play no music as I want it quiet as much as possible. The main reason is I worked in noisy environments for over 40 years and I want it the way I do.

In the winter the doors are cracked open when I am in the garage or if (big if for this part of the country) the doors will open as long as if it is not to cold. If I am not there the doors are closed and locked.

We have a double door and a single door. I liked to keep the double door open in the hot weather just to keep the garage ventilated, but living in a development and talking to neighbors, I decided to put a solar screen sliding door on the small garage door because of the lowlifes cruising the neighborhood checking out open garage doors. The screen is white and impossible to see into, but seeing out through the screen is very good. Now in summer it keeps the Florida heat in check and adds a small level of security.

I have mine open if the weather's nice, but I'm deep in the woods, so no one knows what I'm up to.

Where I lived in FL, everyone left their ****-filled garages open all weekend. Not working in there; just left them open for some reason. This was in a subdivision of tiny lots with the garage door 30' from the street. My neighbor across the street used to leave his open overnight- can't believe people weren't stealing stuff.

Closed when not in it. Open when it is nice enough. Mrs Outlander scared the hell out of me a couple of times banging on the door :)

Open, weather permitting as I have always worked deep inside of businesses and would rather see daylight. People know I am available to schedule repair jobs if they drive by and see the door open. Its closed if I am not out there. If its crappy out, they look to see if the lights are on.
Insurance covers theft and life is too short to be paranoid!

if i'm not in there doing something, the door is closed.

95% of the time i have the door open, as long as its not blowing rain or snow inside.

wifes car sits outside in the driveway, blocking the view from the street.

thats how my house in winter park was, but i always had 2 vehicles in the driveway blocking the view, and had the cap for my toyota P/U standing up blocking the view from the sidewalk of my reloading bench.

most of my neighbors had their door standing wide open :dunno:

Mostly closed. 6 acres of trees. I have a running battle with every leaf wanting to invade, even when there is little wind.

Depends on the weather and/or the project.
Some cities here in SoCal have an regulation that an unattended garage must be closed, some HOAs have the same rule. Thankfully I don't live in one of those cities or have an HOA.

Mine is open when warm and closed when cold. I live out in the woods across from Bum F@$k Egypt so no privacy issues.

Mostly closed, especially during winter and mosquito season.

That leaves six weeks where I can occasionally keep the doors open, as long as I’m not making enough noise to wake the neighbor’s babies.

When I'm outside using tools or doing something in the garage open. During winter closed. I've accidentally left it open all night before and haven't noticed anything missing lol

That about describes me and my house. My street is very busy though.
