And the incoherent title line up? Yes, I'm an administrator on another site and I've banned a particular individual from our site that kept coming back. I believe that they keep creating new IP addresses to side step the IP address bans. Either way, it's annoying as hell these guys.

Just be glad you can't see the the threads after they are deleted. It makes a section hard to navigate and read when we get hit at times.

They do not come back with the same IP address.

That's what I thought. I know that I've dealt with the same issue with one or more spammers on my site. Eventually they give up but the problem here is the readership is so huge and often times it takes several minutes if not up to 40 minutes for a moderator to locate and kill them. In that time X amount of people have seen the thread, so they win in a sense.

Some of them even use multiple IP addresses.:(:willy_nil

They all use multiple IP addresses, use contextual phrase generators (sometimes) to come up with something they hope the admins won't catch, they also usually bury a link or 2 in there as well... Usually they will set up a BUNCH of "shell accounts" way beforehand (we saw some going back 5 years before) that sit there unused until they decide to activate and use them... costs them nothing but time and what they paid some spam-farm monkey in Timbukfour to set up these accounts. They get a spamvertizer to pay them money, and bang, use an old account.

Usually the site will boost security, make signing up harder... but there;s still the x-many unused accounts that are already thru the gate.

Ideally you would have to have a minimum post count per year, or re-sign up annually, to stay in. You don't, you're gone. The downside is it's a PITA for the users. The best they can do shy of that is have multiple admins with the power to block ip addresses and domains, and a membership who reports them as soon as their rear their ugly rears.

It is not unusual to ban a spammer with 5 or more posts and find they have posted from 5 different IP addresses.
