Went to Autozone to look at tools and wow the new Duralast Tools look very nice and CHEAP. I'm a guy with all truck and industrial brand tools and everything is sooo expensive!
The vise grips looked great only ones I've seen with thick chrome and the teeth felt very hard they looked like the beat I've seen mine are green handled Mac's made in usa.
Also the DBE wrenches for 20 bucks looked awesome as well and the screwdrivers looked nice and everything is guaranteed for life.

I plan to drop some cash in there they have low profile sockets for $20 I'm interested in I can't get over the prices if paid so much for my tools hell $100 would get you alot.
These tools would be perfect for those starting out!
I've seen tekton and HF and other cheap brands but nothing compares.

All you guys looking at buying cheaper tools you can't beat them and all is guaranteed for life even the OEM brand tools look great and they are lime green i love green tools I've noticed alot of you guys do too.
I suggest checking these brands out all is HF priced but way better chrome and quality.
Can't wait till payday I can fill some gaps in my collection bout a 20mm socket today doubt I'll use it but for $4.99 heck it's worth it snap on sockets are $25 for like a 10mm I've bought one.

Check them out guys good luck!
This is coming from a guy with all Snap on,Matco,Mac,Cornwell,Wright,Williams and more lol to say the least.

I have a set of standard and metric ratcheting wrenches I bought years ago that I still use daily. Had to warranty out the 15mm but they just swapped it out no questions asked

New duralast tools are pretty much Gearwrench clones. I bought one of the new 100 position ratchets and for the $ it's pretty nice. The whole line is now pretty much Gearwrench top to bottom

l bought a set of their reversable ratcheting metric wrenches for my son. I have used a few of them pretty rough, and they seem to be holding up to some rough treatment just fine. They do look like Gearwrench copies.

That's how most tool reviews work, right? This is like that but even harder to read.
Well, you could certain test the tooth hardness with a Rockwell tester, force necessary to break the jaws, etc, but that's both tedious and expensive, and not totally clear how much it would tell you. Eg should the jaws be through hardened or case hardened? How deep?

More practical test might be how much torque can be applied to a 1" 1018 CRS round with the handles locked at 50 lbf.

If it's 6PM on Saturday or 3PM on Sunday, Duralast will probably get the job done. Brownsfan summed it up pretty well when he said they are pretty much Gearwrench clones. They are more than adequate for the average DIY mechanic

I used their 3/8 anvil in 1/4 body ratchet today in lab to remove sparkplugs. I really like it, except that it's a sealed unit. Wish I could put some RLL in it!

I have the duralast flex head 1/2 ratchet, it's damn good for a DIYer.

It comes in handy in tight spots , and it has good legth too.

I have that and the older 36 tooth regular length 3/8" ratchet that I am literally only using with a 3 foot cheater bar and it still will not break.

I cruise the tools at AZ too, prices nor quality seem to run consistent. Kits tended to bear lessor quality than the singles and it was not hard to spot.

For my money I found other brands to make me money. No warranty but none have broken, which I cannot say for some items purchased at AZ. I prefer to never need a warranty than to have a great guarantee on a mixed bag of products.

The teeth on the vise grips look like they would be hard I'll say it like this I have Peterson and Mac made in USA vise grips both look cheap and teeth have smashed. Just check them out they have a very nice chrome finish I've never seen on vise grips.

I'm not a fan of the sockets but the ratchets seem decent I have not tried the new ones out I have the mini 3/8 in 1/4 body and ive had the older 36t snap on wannabes.
The ratchet wrenches look nice they have the reverse lever all I'm trying to say is that Duralast would be good for starting out or to fill gaps if you don't have alot of money to spend I think thier offering are much better than HF or Lowe's or Home Depot. I will be buying the DBE wrenches, low profile sockets, and a couple other things as I don't see these tools getting much use and I live straight across the street from Autozone.

The only dualast tools i have owned broke! It was a torx socket. Brought the whole set back to try and use that "warranty". They could only do it with a recpt. Thats the last time i ever buy a duralast tool.

So the teeth are hard compared to the pads of your fingers?

Got a model number?

It's like how guys on here can feel the thousandths or ten thousandths of an inch difference between sockets from different companies just by hand. Don't know why machinists have all these expensive tools if these guys can just tell by feel.

A buddy of mine brought over a motorcycle last summer for me to take a look at, he also brought some tools, they were Duralast brand. I thought the ratchets were large and heavy and the combo wrenches were fat and cheap feeling. The sockets were also cheap looking with pretty poor chrome.

Just my opinion, I didn't take any measurements...

Last summer's Duralast isn't the same as current (post-October) Duralast.
All new collection of tools that appear to be APEX sourced. The Taiwan ratchets with the backwards lever are gone, as is the 3/8 in a 1/4 sealed body ratchet.
That Metric/SAE red or blue color stripe on the sockets is also a casualty.

Pity, that was just about their only positive attribute

The receipt isn't necessary to replace a broken Duralast tool with warranty for life at AZ.

They replaced my 1/2 breaker bar some weeks ago w/o issue.

AZ wants a receipt when the tool is from other brands like OEM, Great Neck...

Sears is the same, they want a receipt for Gear Wrench tools but no for Craftsman.

And this month's Duralast won't be what they stock next month.

Pretty much like all the other store brands. Buy what you like for today, buy two sets before it becomes something else under warranty.
Unless you need material to start rant threads.

Alot of haters of Duralast on here sure they are not snap on quality and not Carlyle quality but they are cheaper than either one and good for beginners, go bags, filling gaps of not so used sizes and tools. I think some of the tools are very high quality good enough for me and all I have is try
Cui and industrial brands and have paid up for all I'm ready to save some money.

Hey, didn't Duralast have the color coding backwards though. I think they used red for metric and blue for SAE. :wtf:

Good point. Ok, so zero positive attributes. JK, I'm not a "hater" just don't think they are anything special in a big sea of not very special tool brands

Off topic,
but a few weeks after purchase from Sears,
my Klein linesmans (HD9000-9NE's) broke in half(!)

even with the receipt I had to fight with the manager for a replacement.

^Fwiw that was the last Klein anything I ever bought.

I was at my local AuroZone this morning getting some taillight bulbs, so had a chance to check out the new Duralast line... It looks like really decent stuff for cheap...The whole line. Ratchets,sockets,pliers,screwdrivers...The wrenches look kinda HF-ish.. But Duralast could probably work in a pro environment long term.. You know..with the mid level stuff...Craftsman, Kobalt, Husky, Duralast, Tekton, and others ..Gearwrench, Carlyle..maybe being upper mid level...getting better and better...SO really are becoming "vanity"...tools like the kids coming out of tech schools believe.. Withe the exception of some of their specialty tools. And thats ok to call them what they are..

Not to hijack the thread but, I think some of the Taiwan made tools like Tekton, OEM Tools, Carlyle, and others are really giving techs more bang for their hard earned buck these days but, that's just me. It's ok to have no frills, sturdy, & durable tools that will get the job done. :dunno:

Maybe some guys can, who knows. I can tell when two coffee filters are stuck together just by feel. ..... Guys in the shop didn't think I could set lug nuts at 100 ft. lbs. with my ratchet on the bosses sons Jeep the other day, but I did. Every one was almost perfect. Gave them something to talk about for a while. :dunno:

As for the teeth felt hard.....WTF? Unless he clamped it onto something....
