Hubbell is a very reputable brand, no personal experience with that unit though.

The wires are only 16AWG so not heavy duty but is certainly OK for 10Amps but not much more.

I have two of the craftsman heavy duty ones mounted in my garage from the ceiling. Zero complaints on them one has been there 18 yrs the other not quite as long. Do not know who makes them for sears but they carry two (or used too). A red case one and a black case one both mine are black think that is there pro grade.

But would you get the same quality today as 18 years ago?

Dont know about that the other one I bought about 2 or 3 years ago. And seems to be the same unit craftsman professional. Havent changed much that i can see. But you are correct with sears going downhill quality is not there unless you get NOS stuff out of them.

All I can comment on is the Bayco unit I have is terrible. More trouble than convenience to use. I intend to avoid their stuff in future. Spring return is weak, and it takes quite a bit of effort for it to spool in correctly and not get jammed up.

My previous unit was just some craftsman professional corded reel and never had these issues.

I have this Hubbell and have been very pleased with it. One of the nice features is the mount is designed so that you can easily remove the reel and take it with you...

Now you said 'high quality' and with that, you should expect a 'high price'. The Hubbell currently sells for $226 on Amazon, but I only paid $75 for it from the warehouse. I don't think I would have bought it for $226...

I had a craftsman pro made by alert stamping. Ended up having an issue with the receptacle and of it and sears wouldn't replace it. It was about 2 years old with a 2 year warranty and I didn't have the receipt. I ended up calling alert and they ended up sending me a replacement at no charge. The unit on the whole was very good. I have it mounted in the middle of my 2 car garage and do exactly what you're looking to do.

For the price, I would do with alert again in a heartbeat.

I have 7 or 8 40' 12/3 with triple tap plugs on the end. Got them from Nothern Tool about a year and a half ago. They have all held up well with no problems. You can catch the 40' s on sale for $70and the 65' on sale for $100. These live in a 2 shifted heavy truck shop and are used all the time. They have never missed a beat and have not had one problem.
