I never trust inventory numbers... I've found things that were 0, and I couldn't find one thing that had 6...

I've always been curious what could be hiding in the back "employee only" corner of stuff... I figure some is holds / pickup, some is return to vendors, some has to be penny items they want to take home... There's a lot of stuff back there.

In my store they hide them randomly in the rafters. I have seen one employee berate another who helped me get to what I suppose was the first one's stash.

I rarely find higher-value clearance items at HD, but today I lucked out.

Dewalt D55146 4.5 gallon 200 PSI compressor
SKU: 457397
UPC: 028877562124
$88.00

As mentioned a few posts ago (about the similar 15 gallon version), the model number has stayed the same but the current model ($349) has been updated to 225 PSI and has a new SKU & UPC.

One penny deal and one should have been penny deal Lol! The goop rang up at a penny but the RainX cover showed a penny in the computer but rang up at the .06 pricing but they gave it to me for $5🖒Not a penny but a good deal nevertheless.

Sorry, earlier in the thread i was looking for the starter kit. They ended up giving me the normal kit plus a separate battery and giving me 100 off the second battery.

How do you guys know when something will ring up a penny?

Do you guys try putting the penny stuff in the middle of a multi item purchase? Or does it ask them to acknowledge the price?

1. You check the SKU number in the Price Check App on a store computer. Or you can go to self-checkout and there is a button on the display for "price check".

2. Depends on your store, some don't like to sell penny items so you might have to sneak it through self checkout. Which in that case its best to ring up a normal priced item first as the attendant usually will just glance at their screen. Other stores don't care and will either let you buy it for a penny or just give it to you without needing to ring it up.

I spent a year and a half trying to find a penny deal.

Finally found one, went to ring it up at self check out, rang up several normal priced items first, rang up the penny item, and self check out monitor marched up to my checkstand, took the item, and called for help. The help came, took the item, and brought the updated version of the tool (that wasn't being clearance) with a different UPC on the box. He said it's the same tool. I said it's not the same box, and not what I selected. He said tough.

At that moment, I ceased looking for penny deals. It just isn't worth the time. Besides, with Home Depot (and Lowes) being targeted by tool truck thieves (and my truck is a tool truck), the risk inherent in frequent visits to those stores isn't worth any reward of savings, even at the big box stores regular prices. I went back to patronizing the local lumber yards. I know the employees by name, they know me by name, the guys in the yard know my truck, and it's a safer shopping experience overall.

I do envy the GJ members who have the drive (and the time) to pursue the thrill and the thrift of scoring penny deals. And if anyone reading this has the same admiration and envy, as well as the same constraints on your time, and same sense of mortification when an item you ring up at the cash register is physically taken from you... know that you are not alone.

It's a gamble... I'm not ******** like some people that hit up several HDs every single day with a regular routine. But when I go to buy something I need I like to do a little searching for highly discounted / penny stuff... Sometimes I get lucky, most of the time nothing of interest. I also only buy stuff I can use (or a friend), I don't buy things there to re-sell...

There is a large retirement community near where I live, so a lot of the HD & Lowes guy are probably like 60+ old timers that are super cool... Very few (if any) "young" people work there...

I do enjoy going to the local lumber yard & wholesale supply places. It all just depends on what I need and where I am already going. I try to plan a route to all the places I need to go, I do like to randomly zig-zag around town or travel to two far extreme ends if I don't have to.

Theres actually a few more different combinations....
I haven't seen this posted, but these are very good deals. Good enough for me to upgrade my 13 year old makita cordless set. I got the circ saw deal, and the drill/driver with the multi tool and grinder. I need to get off the web, and stop this madness!!

It's a good deal, but it is a very common deal that can be had from many Milwaukee retailers. It has been found at HD stores for a lot less in the past year. If you need the saw and want the battery and don't want to try your luck at finding it at a store for less in a month or two, then go for it.

^^ Need? Not exactly, but I had 2 store credits to use. Hd messed up my returns on Ryobi impact driver and circ saw. I did the hd buy drill to get the 2nd tool at a discount. Well I hated the saw, and the impact driver. They gave me full price credit on both. So for me, it cost about $180 for the saw. I will say the saw is MUCH nicer than the Ryobi.

Swung by my local HD to see if they had any of the Dewalt 200psi compressors you guys talked about. The spot for them was recently vacated, and they tried to fill the best they could with a couple of the 225psi models.

Always hopeful!

Exact same thing just happened to me today. Employee said they are not allowed to sell penny skus. I didn't feel like fighting over it. Oh well.

here in the people's republic of massachusetts, they are required by law to sell it to you for the lesser of the price on sticker attached to it, the price on the shelf, or the value it scans as.

Decent because to me thats the regular price of that "kit". It is like free batt & $30 charger. Maybe try to find a 10% off coupon from Lowes. AcmeTools had 17% off last yr & 20% off this Cyber Monday. I did the sawzall kit @ $207 & new Grinder kit @ $200.

Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk

Used it today. Awesome saw. Getting rid of my corded saw. The 9amp battery is a nice bonus. Will keep an eye out for the sawzall kit @ the price you posted. All new makita drill, impact, grinder, multi tool, new Milwaukee circ saw, 15ga ang finish nailer, and ryobi cordless brad nailer this past week. Just need that sawzall, and I am set.
I would have went all milwaukee, but i like the drill and impact driver better. And the Brad nailer, I practically stole. HD screwed up, and I wound up getting it free.

Good to hear. Nice variety. This saw might keep me from getting a corded saw. The 9ah battery is awesome, lasts forever on my impact [emoji28]. You can sign up for the Acmetools' newsletter. Big % off is 2 or 3 times a year, or the current $20 off code is milw2017. No telling if theres a 10+ % this month. $230 aint bad for sawzall kit. Saw is $160-170 + $130 batt = $300 seperate w/o charger price.

here in the people's republic of massachusetts, they are required by law to sell it to you for the lesser of the price on sticker attached to it, the price on the shelf, or the value it scans as.

There are exceptions, read the law, doesn't apply in this case because of HD policy not to sell RMI items.

Also the law does not say they have to sell it to you, such a law would be illegal. It says that if they sell it to you they cannot charge more than the lowest price, with exceptions for errors, policy, and posted notices - so it doesn't apply to penny items because of HD policy not to sell RMI items.

Found: Grisham Remote Release for windows (never heard of it before): 931-747 or UPC 718373999417

penny

Seemed pretty useless and not re-sellable either.

Have at it.

i have read the law. the law only mentions "gross errors", not policy. i bet standing at a register with something in hand and them not agreeing to sell it to you for the scanned price is covered.

http://www.mass.gov/ago/docs/regulations/940-cmr-3-00.pdf

it is covered in section 3.13.

the law also requires them to fill out forms when this happens, which i doubt they do.

in the end, it is a stupid situation they put themselves in. i understand how they got here: laziness. they wanted a way to mark things for removal. rather than create a new status, they decided to just mark it a penny. then the MET team could scan the system for penny items. the laziness continues in not setting up the scan system to understand that penny items are not for sale, and not to show them when a bar code is scanned.

they are a large organization. this is the stuff of class action lawsuits, and it has been going on for years. it shows a complete contempt for their customers, that they would take something away from you in the middle of the store, and argue with you about why they won't sell you something for the scanned price.

If you think the state or a judge will give you a multi-hundred dollar item for a penny using that law, then I got a bridge to sell you.

Got it for $282.53 after veteran discount :shocking:

I almost grabbed one on Saturday, but realized how little I used the non-charging tower light. I could have got it with 10% off, plus 11% Menards rebate match. Hard to pass on, but I did.

Most of the time I end up grabbing my Ryobi LED spotlight. Not the nice 'True View' light Milwaukee has, but close enough for me, but brighter & a ton more convenient for carrying.
