Interested. So I have a few rivets ~1/4" without checking to install ball joints on early 60's Chevy. I need to rivet these on. Not likely to need a gun after that. What can I get that is capable and not so expensive? $2-$3 hundred seems steep for short use.

so 210 - 35 - 25 (future purchase) = 125?

Yes. That's how things end up. $30 more than the original deal.

what????? dont u get full refund so it doesnt matter on next purchase?

I will get a full refund on the 3rd party seller. $95 which included an $8 shipping charge. It wasn't even scheduled to get here yet.

Then I bought the one offered by Amazon for $211 with free shipping. Price was reduced by $35 and then $35 to $141 plus $8 tax for $249. A $25 credit on account for future Amazon purchases makes it equivalent to $225 final cost. 2 day shipping with prime.

So my takeaways are that there are lowlife 3rd party sellers on Amazon. And Amazon has no responsibility to make you whole beyond refunding you. But if you are a long time customer and even a prime member, they can do some thing to help, but you have to persist. It was all to Amazons credit that they helped me.

The original seller was selling for less than Astro can buy them for. His site had some strange pricing and a couple bad reviews for things not received. But I still hoped it would come through. But I'm still very happy with the result.

BTW, both the Astro hammers will work as rivet guns, just not quite as well as a dedicated one. The Atlas Copco Co. makes 3 stronger ones, but bigger money.

Most factory rivet ball joints (modern stuff anyway), require removal of the rivets, and then are secured with a nut and bolt. I would not dream of re-riveting.

Hey!

I just learned you could deflect the spring to remove and install rivet sets:

This is a very informative post. What I would like to know is if other manufacturers post in other forums. Astro is here, but what about other brands, like, Ingersoll Rand, Chicago Pneumatic's,Snap On, just to name a few..I have not seen any other brands that put in the extra mile. This is good to see.Ken

IR used to have someone that cared about assisting people on this site but he now works elsewhere and will be glad to help with some other brands as needed. :)

note:

Some air hammer chisel retaining springs can be deflected enough to allow you to slip off the chisel/bit and install a new chisel/bit without unscrewing the entire spring retainer.

However, I have not been able to so far do that with the OEM spring and OEM bits on my Astro 4901. I have to unscrew it completely to remove the bit and then install the new bit and then completely screw the spring retainer back on. YMMV.

Now I'm going to need:

Regulator at the tool

Bucking bar

Rivet sets - 1 set

Rivets - 2 sizes

Clecos - 2 sizes

Sources for this stuff?

Who's stuff is good?

Bill

I like to deal with Aircraft Tool Supply. For many years it was located in Plymouth MI but has moved. https://www.aircraft-tool.com/

There are a lot of used aircraft tools on the market if you google it.

Get a quick release chuck and never deal with the spring again. I have the $15 Chicago Pneumatic import chuck and it's been great even on my pretty powerful CP7150.

I prefer the quick-change spring type. I tried one of the chucks and it didn't impress me. Wouldn't work with a flush rivet set, either.

Sounds like it wasn't a good split, lol.
Meh, it is what it is. IR is not focused on new product, especially in Air tools so my passion is better focused with a company that is serious about launching great new tools.
