anyone ever put a 9998 Master toolkit box on top of a toolmobile for a full stack Plomb ?

Not exactly what you are looking for, but kinda close.

BTW, I have an extra toolmobile and extra chest if anyone is interested. They are both complete but in fairly rough condition.

Notlob - can you post a closeup of the casters on your toolmobile? The ones on mine were not original and I'm trying to find compatible replacements.

Smokeshow...can you post a pic of your P&C toolmobile? That is my holy grail...

Keyword is had [emoji1] I had to buy the p&c toolmobile for him so he would trade me his plomb tool mobile... Then he started wanting garage space back so I bought the p&c tool mobile from him as it is physically identical to the plomb tool mobile aside from paint color ! I will be starting a pressteel thread on them and I will be posting some pictures as I remove over spray and paint drops from them and gently rub the paint down to make them look a little better but not too much! It may take me a little while to start the thread but if you search Rileysan's threads you can see it !

It is the same one I got a couple months ago. That is, I traded the one I purchased to Smokeshow. That, and he already had a 9998, so he has a complete set. Fortunately, I'm the only one who knows where he lives, so unless you know how to find him, I know where a complete set exists here in the Pacific NW!

DC: to save you a little time looking i think SMOKE'S top Plvmb box is this one that he managed to sweet talk me out of. it's a tank that needs a little love and I'm still waiting to see if it fits perfectly on his bottom roller that i think Riley found for him. once Smoke does spiff up his Plvmb toolboxes he might have to give up his cool wall or maybe at the rate he's finding Plvmb tools he'll have enough tools for a wall and the boxes.

cheers

Looking through your thread...

Here are photos of the Toolmobile I purchased this past summer. I eventually traded it to Smokeshow.

I found it listed on CL in Salem barely 30 minutes after it was posted, for $50. I nearly went into hysterics when the seller told me they were heading to a concert that evening and wouldn't be able to meet until the next day. I barely slept that night, lol!

That must've been hard to contain in front of the seller. For me, those "uninformed market" purchases are the trickiest moments in this hobby. Whether it's on the phone or face-to-face at a flea market or estate sale, you're told a criminal price for something and your heart starts racing and palms start sweating and you are trying to not give away the excitement in every pore of your body before the deal is done, lest it tips off the "steal" and the price changes. Sometimes you gotta big a good actor in this hobby and I can play dumb with the best of them!

Awesome toolmobile! But what gives with the paint splatter? Seems at least half the stuff I pick up at garage sales / estate sales has some paint splattered on them. They may have been the greatest generation, but those old timers sure as heck couldn't paint a damn!

Tons of things I find have paint splatter or spray paint on them. I use Acetone and a soft brush to remove spray paint. I have an old craftsman vice that was sprayed silver. the entire thing. I poured acetone on paper towels and used the brush and the silver wipes right off. Leaves the old hardened factory paint thats left under it intact unless you really get after it. I have also used it to get a bunch of splattered paint off of a nice old wood handled proto screwdriver I got at an estate sale.

Yes guilty as charged [emoji16] that is my box ! It is still in as found condition but will be getting some love this coming year along with the rest of my pressteel boxes ! I have done nothing to these aside from put them in front of the plomb wall but I will start a thread on them and will show what I did to make them more presentable with the original paint still intact ! The pictures are not very good but it does show all of them together!

I'm drooling over that P&C!! Wow!

I agree... I have wanted a toolmobile for years and now I have one with the piston rack and lock bar as well ! I also love the p&c because it is so uncommon but still is a tool mobile ! Does anyone on here have the late 30's p&c lower roller that is modular ? Those are super cool !

I like my toolmobile so much I put it in the house and am using it for a minibar.

I bought some casters from McMaster Carr because the originals were lost and the replacements it came with were not the right style. You can see them in the first pic. It makes a great bar and I get to look at it all day. Now I'm on the lookout for a P&C for the shop. :bounce:

Just came across some old boards. I was going to throw these impostors in the trash but my bin was full and I somehow decided against it...:spit::bounce:

I wrote more about them here: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=378146

Those tool boards are beautiful! Moreover, I'm amazed at the level of preservation after having been forgotten about for so many years! It's really inspiring to see!

Montana: so you were going to throw those old tool boards away? you've got some cool tools sitting on them and your sweet collection is always nice to see. are you finding that now that there are more Plvmb guys looking that there are less available or are you still able to find some locally?

Smoke: did you ever try putting the big top box on a bottom roller or is it too big?

no hurry on the restorations and like i say once you do spiff them up then you'll have to decide whether to fill them with Craftsman tools or take the stuff off your walls to fill them. such a quandry i know.

cheers

Riley: i thought buying a home might slow your tool buying down, but i'm thinking you won the lottery the way you are finding cool stuff lately. keep up the good work. how's the new house and we are all looking for the WALL OF CRAFTSMAN AT RILEY'S?

Dang Smokeshow! I love the full pressteel lineup - the P&C is amazing! A figurative unicorn...

Drivesitfar - I have found a couple wrenches at swapmeets but mostly I've replaced what is missing with Ebay and overpaid. I like the plomb stuff, and especially my toolmobile but honestly with the wrenches I like the Proto MFD era (without trademark emblem) the best. They are the era most of my grandfathers tools came from and have a smoother feel to them. They are also a little more plentiful and inexpensive.

I have never set the box on top of the lower roller but have no doubt it would fit! We shall see soon enough !

That one sold fast for $40 plus freight. I grabbed these Plomb items on Thursday. The small sockets are mostly WF. After a little cleaning the 3/8" ratchet looks barely used.

Not my oldest Plomb wrench, but only one I have with the deep box ends.

I don't know the vintage or application for this. Picked this, and its somewhat modified twin, at the liquidation sale of an old commercial roofing business which was located next door to the now-closed Alameda Naval Air Station on the SF bay. Military application?

BTW, both ratchets have only one pawl; they ratchet in one direction, and freewheel in the reverse.
