It's been a while since I've made an update... been really busy at work and life. Still got some good shop time in.

Got the rear deck and support braces cleaned up and primed...



Cleaned up and primed the rear and front supports for the rear deck...







Cut out the cancer on the rear quarter panels and have to patch up the inner quarters were the floor mates up...





Fitting up one of the patches...



That's were I'm at so far. Once I get the final patches in then the rear deck can be fitted up...

Also installed a secondary 60 gallon air tank and installed a drain system to direct the water out the back of the shop...





Got a 50' 3/8" air hose reel for the main tank. Can see a huge difference in tool performance with it!

Got a new tool...

Pneumatic Flange/Punch tool from Cornwell. Had to crank the pressure up to 110psi before it would punch 16 gauge...

First set of plugs welded. Had to crank the Hobart Handler 125 to the max... Got good penetration, but I'm thinking I need a bigger rig...

It's set on 4 (highest setting) and at 50 for wire feed. It's in the sweetest spot I could find for what I'm doing. It is 16 gauge sheetmetal...

Got a bag of Clecos...



They're not pulling this ledge tight enough. Ordered some Wingnut Clecos to pull it tighter...



Lined up the brace between the wheel wells...



Drilled a small hole were the rear seat belts bolt through the floor and brace to help line it up...



Then Cleco'd it in place.

The wing nut Clecos work great!



Finished setting the braces and then fit up the fuel tank bracket. I did take a measurement, but it didn't seem right, so I strapped the tank in and let it find it's own place...





The Clecos are a huge help. Got 56 of them in the floor, which means about 120 or so plug welds to do...

Thanks Steve! Hope all is well with you...

There is no rubber between the straps and tank. None was used by the Factory either. I am going to put an anti-vibration pad between the back wall of the tank and the rear floor brace. Once the straps are tightened up, it's pretty solid and doesn't move at all.

Hello Rainer. The punch makes an 8mm hole. It's a good size for a plug weld. I got it from Cornwell Tools. They also have one that does 5mm holes, but it's not as powerful...

Howdy Larry. The regular Clecos use a spring to clamp and the wing nut ones have a stud with a wing nut on it to draw tight.

Thanks! Yes, 16 gauge is original for the floor pans. The body skin is 18... it's a shame the Factory didn't properly coat the sheet metal. If they did, these would last forever...

They came as an option with the building. Not sure the make, but next time I go in I’ll take a look. I like them. Really saves ceiling space in the shop. Only drawback is that I can’t insulate them.

Steve, been fighting kidney stones since the day after Christmas. Haven’t gone down to the shop in a month, except to raid the beer frig... Tough to do any work hopped up on pain meds, so I just stayed on the recliner and suffered through it on the weekends. Didn’t loose any work time though. My productivity suffered a bit, but the pain kept me mean and most people just left me alone...

Yesterday I gave birth to not one, but two 4mm stones...



I’m feeling much better now, but tubes are still a bit sore... if they didn’t come out this week, I was gonna let them go in and get them. I’m happy they decided to come out on their own though.

Plannin’ on gettin’ hot and heavy this weekend and finishing up the rear deck on the Scout.

Finally got some shop time in this weekend. Got all the plug weld holes drilled, about 180, then got all the brackets fit up...



Started plug welding using .024 solid wire. Bought an 11 pound spool the other day before I started, as I knew I was gonna run out of the 2 pound spool I had in the machine.... got a few done before the wire ran out, but forgot I needed an adapter for the bigger spool. Had a roll of .035 and tried it, but my little Hobart 125 doesn’t like it... doesn’t run hot enough for it...



Adapter is on the way, and hopefully can get the rear deck done next weekend.

Got all the welds done on the top side, got a few on the bottom to take care of, then it’s getting primed.



After that, it’s on to the front pans...

Got the rest of the driver’s side pan out...





This is why the cab mounts get rusted out... all kinds of debris catching moisture traps built in from the factory...



Cut out the previous owner’s hack job of attempted sheet metal repair and test fit some patch panels...



The cab mount wedge looks to be in decent shape. I have a replacement, but I think this is salvageable.

Test fit the new floor pan. Still have a rear dogleg to cut out, will tackle that today along with some more test fitting pieces...



This is what I do during the week... I modeled all this equipment and conduit on a computer in 3D, coordinated it with the other trades and the structured then created installation drawings for our electricians to installThe . Dual fed static transfer switches that feed PDUs in a data hall. It’s really cool seeing my model become a reality...

Nobody knows how they feel, till they've had them.
I said goodbye to #14 4 years ago quit drinking regular tea and switched to green tea. That and medication, no more stones.
Except 1 retained.
