News flash(?) Just picked up the new 1 drawer cart (merry Xmas, Dad! ;)
https://m.harborfreight.com/26-in-l...r-64002.html?utm_referrer=direct/not provided

It’s based on the 4 drawer cart, but has a deeper top box. Lid has pneumatic lifts (opens to 90°) 1 deep drawer and mid shelf. It came with 4 swivel casters as well.
Looks like it can hold bigger tools because of the deeper trays.
Looks like HF must be watching some of the mods in this thread!??! :)
(& the 25% off coupon brought the cost below $80. Win!

I've tried to figure it out myself. My best guess is to order through the store or online via an email.

titanjeep,
Here are a couple more pictures.

The ends are cut down to clear the carriage bolts and nuts holding the cart together.
The screwdrivers odd spacing to one another matches up with the odd hole spacing in the tool cart.
The plastic tubing is press-fit into the drilled holes which helps keep the screwdrivers standing up straighter.

..
I used a spade bit to counterbore the wood to hold the screwdrivers better.

..
After I did all that, I purchased a set of better screwdrivers with taller handles and had to remake the whole thing. :lol_hitti

Should be easier the second time, right?

Thanks for the information. I think I will have to copy that idea. Merry Christmas.

I’m wondering since now making the 5 drawer in different colors they going to do the same for the 4 drawer. I wouldn’t mind getting a 4 drawer in red.

Finally got my 4 drawer just about set up with my tools for the 4Runner...and Im kicking myself for not being patient enough to wait for the 5 drawer in black. Ran out of room a lot faster than I thought

It wouldn't have mattered, you would have run out of room in the 5-drawer just as fast.
Buy two, they're small. :lol_hitti

I have this picture saved from this thread.. this IS NOT MINE, nor was it my idea.. I simply think this was one of best ideas I've seen using the HF carts.. I WISH HF would sell a version like this one.. whoever made this - great job.. it's 2 of the 4 drawers put together. That's likely a sunex shelf (don't think HF offered a shelf back then) and a locking sunex screwdriver/prybar holder

Currently I have a husky 2 drawer version of hf's black 4 drawer.. only because it was on clearance last year for $39.. I added the sunex folding shelf and screwdriver/prybar holder, but also added a wooden shelf under the cabinet that's closed on both sides and the back.. really helped to add some space, but it's already overflowing with **** too..

It's worse when these things don't get used a lot (like mine) and it just becomes a place to throw stuff when you don't have room or don't feel like putting things away.

Could someone share the measurement of the distance between the carriage bolts that mount the handle on the 4 drawer cart? I have an idea about doing a little mod work to another cart...

That's very nice; I may have to copy it. Is that power strip an add on or is that standard equipment?

Is there a difference other than new color options? I looked at them in the book that just arrived in the mail but did not notice anything different other than the color. Did I miss something?

Only consistent difference I have noticed over the last two years... Are the casters... All seem fine but they must source them from diff suppliers from time to time. Nothing to look out for or worry about.

latest harbor freight add has the blue 64031 and black versions 64033 64032 64030

not coming up on the website yet.

Just poking around on their website and the blue comes up now - just put the item number in the search.

But with $97 in freight charges (for my zip anyway) :lol_hitti

That's crazy that they'd charge freight on that item, yet I've ordered both my 7 drawer side cabinets and only paid 6 dollars shipping for them.

To each his own but that seems like a lot of work to turn a cart into a toolbox.

Here's my "finished" tool cart., the one I push around the plant. Its been an evolution, through trial and error of what does and doesn't work for me. Keep in mind I made changes and additions over an 18 month period. Below is a list of changes/upgrades that help me be more efficient in my job as a multi-craft maintenance technician.

1. Built a frame for added strength, our floors a very rough with cracks.
2. Added a Craftsman folding side shelf that I already had.
3. Sprayed the top with bedliner for protection.
4. Added to the frame for the additional side cabinet. (never got around
to painting the frame).
5. Added the US General side cabinet.
6. Built a new frame for the addition of another side cabinet and vise.
7. Added a Craftsman side cabinet that I already had.
8. Relocated the cart's push handle to the Cman's side cabinet.
9. Mounted my USA made 4" Craftsman vise.

Along this journey I've also added things in the cart/boxes for tool organization. I won't go into that part, although I still need a good pliers rack.

I've just been going thru the cart mods and rediscovered your mods to the HF 5 drawer cart. Nice job.

I have that Craftsman side cabinet too hanging up over my wheel/tire bench with just a few misc. items in it. I think it would be more useful attached to the cart.

Looks like I'll be copying your cart some.

Hey guys, reading the description on the new 5 drawer carts (new blue one) I see under the description that the lids now open to a full 90 degrees.

Blue and black and a full 90 degree lift in the lids. Might someone in HF's backroom been lurking on GJ?

Someday they may even offer all their chests and carts in the blue and black colors. And lets not forget the side shelves and matching colored towel holder and misc. accessories shelves.

One could hope.

We went to HF yesterday. The "new" one drawer cart seems pretty flimsy compared to the original 4 drawer. The one drawer model was marked $99. I don't know if that is going to be the regular price or not. No blue or black 5 drawers were available. The Store Manager said she thought they might have them in stores sometime next year.
Regards,
John

I picked up one of the blue models and can confirm that the top lid opens 90 degrees. No pics, but it does look nice.

Can anyone confirm that a 6" grinder will fit in one of the deep drawers of the 5 drawer cart? I'm wanting to make one of these my welding box but wanted to make sure the grinders will fit

I've seen it done, looks good and probably pretty tough. I'd use roll on, less chance of air pockets. Scuff, clean, and paint.
