Just hauled this home yesterday. Any ideas on value? I know it's missing the lock handle. Besides that the vise is in very good condition. It's the biggest double swivel I have ever seen and dwarfs a Charles Parker 474!

If anyone has any further information on the vise please let me know.

Now, that's a vise!

Sorry it's missing the handle, but one can be fabricated. As a start, I've seen cast nail pullers with a similar pattern handle.

I figured someone here on GJ snagged it. Did you wind up giving him his asking price? There’s a guy in your area who buys vises on CL and them just re-lists them at much higher, unrealistic prices. Usually without doing anything to them. Good score btw

I wonder if this vise has anything to do with the Joe Striper/Zoomie exchange on page 3054 of the vise mega thread?

Thanks for the idea, I have been looking on eBay for machine handles and found a few that would do in a pinch.

Here is the handle off of the same Yost vise I have in my shop. 4.5" jaws, original color.

I offered $400 for this vise and I am bitter I didnt get it....very bitter....

meatsis, I am probably that guy... I do restore some of them and some, usually the big ones I just resell... They sell so they are realistically priced to someone :)

I do sell many on eBay and if I had a larger garage I would probably keep more of them.

Joe, I reached out to the guy when he initially posted on CL asking for information on the vise and made him the same offer. He later stated he had offers in the $600 range so I said good luck to him and told him if he could get $600 to take it. I then see it listed on CL for $500 yesterday morning and reminded him of my offer. He took it, and I was at his barn in under an hour. He did mention a guy from MA who was upset, as I was carrying it to my car. Sorry man.

That's a great snag. I feel better knowing that I was skunked by a GarageJournal member. lol :) I was after the Yost vise to keep this Chas Parker company. I wasn't able to coordinate my Hudson Valley local quick enough though.

To be fair, I just joined today so technically when I bought it I was not a member! But I have been a lurker for a while.

I have always considered a 474 Parker on my Bucket List along with a Baby Bullet. I did get a 2.5" Bullet but have not found a 2" yet.

Should have offered more if you wanted it that much. End of the day, it's only a vice. Besides, you can't keep snagging everything. :D

It is a 6 hour drive each way, and it is missing the handle plus I did just buy a Parker 439. I cant blame the guy for selling it...lol...If I was bitter I wouldn't have posted pics and measurements of my handle.

Yeah, I know. Turns out Joe and I have chatted in the past on a Hollands 54H. I make it a habit to not try to snipe items from anyone, if a seller tells me he has it sold and someone is coming for it, I am NOT the guy to offer more or try to show up first with cash.

Thanks for the welcome!

MOTOR: nice find and it's on my BUCKET VISE LIST TOO, but i can't even recall seeing one come up in my area in the last 5 or so years.

welcome to GJ and don't mind JOE cause his bark is much worse than his bite and he's a great guy, but he does tend to WHINE A BIT AT TIMES.

I hope that handle you bought fits.

Wait! If that is a double swiveler, what do you call the one where the stationary jaw pivots for non parallel clamping?

So, the OP's vise can swivel without removing the vise pressure?
