New tools

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to get some ideas, a little background. Two-three years ago I purchased the Craftsman 334 piece tool set and was very excited but then found out they where made in china. I got over it after a while but still sighed from time to time. The set really came in handy and did what I needed to do but the thing that annoyed the hell out me is when I would put them on a hog ring anvil, they wouldn't fit snug ( I wasn't using them for loosing or torquing just fast removal), I endured that too until one of them flew off and nearly hit my window. So I replaced them with gear wrench 1/4,3/8 bogo set and love them! (saved up to buy armstrong but figured what was the point after the plant closed). I am going to buy 12 point rails 1/4-1/2 to match my current set, my dilemma is what do I do with my old ones?!

Keep it in your car as part of an emergency kit. I have one set in each vehicle (3) and another at work.

Yeah but not for nut busting.

I don't know if the socket indents are worn or the hog ring on the impact is loose, but your old set is probably good for non-impact use. I would keep it. Tekton makes an affordable set of impact sockets.

The impact is new, is the Chinese made craftsman they don't have dents. They have narrow slots running top to bottom where the indents should be, and sometimes they just use a tiny piece of metal to sit behind the ball dent.
They hold well on a ratchet but not hog rings.

I have the grey pneumatic 3/8 duo sockets and love them!

I was thinking to do that I just have to find a hand held tool box that would fit the tools.

A tool bag from Home Depot could work. I have each set in those canvas military tool bags I bought years ago from the local surplus store.

Use them until they break, take them in for warranty, use the new ones until they break, repeat.

No point having a large socket set just sitting about, if they're not getting used then sell them or give them away.

Car-loaner- back up kit for outside the shop use. Old metal hand boxes don't really cost much 2nd hand. The worse the paint the cheaper they go.

You can spray bomb it the color you want.

That’s what I’m probably going to, I like the canvas idea but the socket rail I’ll be using are from harbor freight and they’ll probably break in the bag.

Even if you are not "nut busting", you risk catastrophic failure and personal injury.

You put a chrome socket on an impact gun, it flies off and you blame the socket being faulty!!!

When you go to buy a piece of equipment and bring it home, you'll need tools. You won't want to bring your best stuff, because they will be used in a hurry on something less than clean and possibly left behind or used by a helper you don't know. This is what china-made tools that you replaced with better stuff work great for.

I don't know if you can tell by the pictures, bit the ones with the slots from top to bottom are the made in china one, the one without is the made in usa one, and the other one is gearwrench.

The drive squares in my M.I.C ones are slightly wider and long and so there is no friction between the ring and the sockets

the short one is made in china

That what I was thinking, put them I a separate box for stuff like that or backup for warranty exchanges via mail.
