Which Garage Vac to buy?

I want to put in a dedicated vacuum in the garage and looking for some real world experience. This will be mainly used for the cars. Thoughts about the Hoover Garage GUV Vac, Bissell wet/ dry vac, or the Vac Maid (made in USA? I want a wall mount as I like to keep as much off the floor as possible.

I like the GUV, but I needed a wet dry. I have the old version of the craftsman wall mount. It works well. The new verison has a remote on/off switch on the hose and it appears to be identical to the Vac Master & Performax units. If I were to do it over, I'd get the Bissel. My neighbor has one and it's pretty good.

I have the GUV for about 8 years now and like it. The hose is convenient being 30 ft long. Does what it is supposed to and is out of the way up on the wall.

I have the GUV. It has been working fine for at least the last six or seven years. It is not a wet vac. If that is a consideration and you need a different vacuum. This thing won’t **** you in the hose, but it does a good enough job with the crevice tool

I'm leaning towards the Sears wall mount for my garage. I would like to ask those who have it how far it sticks out from the wall. From what I can gather about 20 inches or so. Also what is the practicality of mounting this near my work bench? Would there be a problem with dust or debris when I empty? Also how high would be practical to mount it and if so how far down would it extend? I have a Craftsman box on the perpendicular wall in the corner and I am wondering if it will interfere with the drawers opening.

I question the wet and dry need. I would rather have separate vacuums because of the need to remove the filter for wet use, at least you have to o shop vacs.

I have the Bissell Garage Pro and it’s been great. I am however looking into a “roomba” like solution to run at night. Anyone use something like that for the floors?

This product is made in CANADA. The performance is very good in the house and not suited for the shop. If a person is vacuuming their car and a bunch of sawdust my choice of built-in would have been perfect.
What I found is the built-in vacuum piping is too small for my shop. I always have problems with chips from one of the lathes or the milling machine jamming in the elbows. I bought a Shop Vac for the shop and it has become the go-to vac, in fact, I do not remember the last time I used the built-in vac.
If this built-in vacuum was available with 2 1/2 inch pipe and more gradual turns in the pipes, it would have had a chance to be the best performer.
I do not know how shop vacuums are sold in your country. I bought the 10 gallon - 5 horsepower and the price was what I thought way too reasonable. The filter bags, air filters and replacement accessories are what I think, EXPENSIVE. Three paper filter bags and one filter element was $79.
I have had the Shop Vac for, possibly 20 years, and it works as well as it did on day one.
I used the Shop Vac to reverse the flow in the built in vacuum pipes so I could remove a blockage. I found that amusing.
I have a small Shop Vac mounted on the wall, behind my small lathe. It does this lathe and the milling machine right beside the lathe. I have another small Shop Vac behind my JUKI sewing machine, where I do upholstery. This small vacuum is perfect for picking up thread and material cuttings.

I've read that the suction is just so so... You mention it's OK with the crevice tool, but how is it with the upholstery attachment?

Just picked up this, granted not a dedicated wall mount however works well for me. Nice and small and takes up no room and is the size of a small tool box.

I bought the Rigid version of that, its very similar and I love it. I love the way I can stack it for storage. Also, the flat bottom worked great when I had to vacuum out years of dried out rat and mice **** from my crawl space while we prepped the house for sale, the flat bottom allowed me to drag it along without worrying about the wheels catching on things and tipping it constantly.

The capacity is limited, so if you're sucking up large amounts of waste/water it probably would not be ideal, but I realized after owning a much larger 12 gl or so regular style one that I didn't need all that capacity and I was tired of tripping over it.

I think I got mine on sale for $70 or so. It's a keeper.

Have used it with the long hose and it works great. No problems at all. Better than the car wash units.

Vac-Master also sells a squared off unit along with the round one. Same specs, but a bit more useful space without sticking out as far.

What hose/reel is that? Did you build a pvc muffler for the vac, if so does it make much difference without affecting suction?

Another vote for the Craftsman.

Well... I went in a little different direction. I chose a wall-mount vac due to the small size of my garage (20x20) and I really dig it. If you are looking for a wall-mount option, then I do recommend it.

The cool thing about it... besides the accessories and the wall mount option (can be taken down easily and used wherever you want) is the "remote" option. It uses bluetooth to the end of the hose... so you you can turn it on and off while you are vacuuming out the car, or that specific corner of the garage.

I don't use it as a wet vac (it can be though), and i use the HEPA liners, so there's no dust from the output. I also wouldn't call this a "heavy duty" setup, but it works great for just about everything else (sawdust, leaves, car vacuuming, general cleanup, etc.)

I have a Hoover GUV, 5.5 years old, 24ft hose, mounted between my 2 overhead doors reaches all corners of my garage, also used to vac cars in the driveway. Very pleased, lots of power for 24 ft hose, only con is it is a dry vac only, not a big deal.
