Oil change for my coworker, then drilled 14 1/2" wide countersink holes into 1/4" plate and had to chuck the bolts for these holes into the cordless drill and knock it down on the bench grinder.

I'm cringing at the throught of having to drill and tap another 21 holes and repeat today's process for these holes.

OK, got it all installed, and tossed it on the bike for a view. I haven't added gas yet because I need to bleed the brakes and do a tune-up, but I couldn't resist a mock-up.

Brakes first:

Then I added the strainer and assembled the tank. The PO said the tank was rusty, but it isn't at all. Just a little liner scraped off by long fuel nozzles. I added the Roundels and the rubber pieces.

Then I assembled it temporarily:

I think it is looking pretty good. It needs a little more mechanical work, then a good cleaning and polish, and it will be ready for its glamour shots in the sun.

Got some lateral cabinets a couple of weeks ago, and now have them in place and filled up. Helps clean up the area quite a bit. Kind of tempted to get more to replace some shelving They were a deal at $75 for the four drawer units (top is a binder pull out shelf), and $50 for the three drawer unit. Person I bought them from had bid on some Boeing surplus cabinets from an office building and the listing was for 50-70 cabinets. He got there and was told the listing was a *little* bit off and was more like 400+ cabinets and they all had to be picked up in 48 hours. Wowzers. So he has tons of these things left in the Seattle area.

They replace wood cabinets and a counter top that was suffering from horizontal **** storage syndrome.

drained the fuel tank on the neighbors snowthrower and added some mechanics helper. He doesnt want to pay $40 for a new carb this season. So just seeing if we can this thing fired up for the "snow storm" expected in the area this weekend. They say 10", I say ********.

I’ve been finishing the oak bed wood for my ‘55.2 big window Chevy Truck that I have posted about on another thread here.

I’ve got two coats of McCloskey’s Gloss Marine Spar varnish on all six sides of 8 boards. Today I wet block sanded the boards with 320 grit. Even though the label says to recoat after 24 hours, I find the finish still seems somewhat.....not wet or even soft, just not “cured.” I couldn’t get the varnish uniformly flat across the boards because I was afraid of cutting through the finish. But I should be able to after the third coat goes on.

A little tip: A friend who used to be a master cabinet maker (before he maimed himself with a table saw on his hand) told me to put ONE drop of dish soap on the sanding block. It lubricates the paper and minimizes loading. I found the paper still loaded but I brushed it and it cleaned right off and I kept at it. Seems to work well. Guess we’ll see if I rinsed well enough when I put on the next coat!

PS: I’m switching to Satin finish as the Gloss was too much for my taste.

Your pliers organizer works great! Looks like I'd better get one of those myself. :)

ML Tools Pliers Organizer, $22.95:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SA23E80/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Funny enough, I had a couple choices saved in my cart. I added a different "brand" (exact same thing though) that was $1 cheaper, and when I went to my cart I got notified the ML Tools brand magically went $1 below that one... lol...

My Craftsman toolbox was not as wide as the organizer, but I was able to cut it to fit and the extra piece is in another drawer organizing my vise grips.

Spent the day moving stock from the wall in the back of the garage to be reracked above the new saw bench. Tomorrow I'll get to cutting the verticals for the rack down to length to fit over the bench and begin reracking the wood.
Got into a rhythm and between that and Garage Tetris, I didn't get any pics. I'll try to snap a few tomorrow.

I'm trying to get out of town for a few weeks, but need to do some electrical on my camper first.

I also need to make brackets to attach the camper to the truck. The commercial brackets I've seen are expensive, and I have an older set that I can modify a bit.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) I found that my new inverter was broken and was only operating at 30Hz. Amazon was great, and did a refund, even though it was a Christmas present and the return window closed yesterday. New one on order.

I spent a little time helping my dad design some shelving to hold the rotary table and other tools for the mill & lathe.

I parked the truck, stood there for a couple minutes, watched the door opener light bulb die, (yet again) froze then went inside.

I didn't get much accomplished last night. The temperatures was so nice when I got home that I decided to address the loose fastener holding the railing around our deck which took a little longer than I thought, mainly because I was trying to not scratch the powder coating on it.

Then I had a couple of things to do in the shop but never did get time to work on my coolant surge tank. I hope to be able to get enough time this weekend to finish it and clean up my mess.

Dan, just a thought but the gloss has higher solids so it will build faster and you can knock down the gloss with a white fine Scotch-brite pad or 5/0 steel wool.

walked in, took a deep breath, and promised myself to do something soon.

Mines similar.. walked in picked up a tool bag .. stood and looked longingly at the gap to the left of my work bench where my sink is going when I get a chance to do it... then walked out again to fix a damaged back brake on my car..

Getting sick of fixing stuff outside when I should be using my days off to work on the workshop but stuff keeps breaking.. :lol_hitti

Oh... I did cut a spring in half to make two smaller ones to replace the skinny rubbish Volvo use to hold in handbrake shoes.. so I guess I did do something IN my garage..

Someone was asking about the wrench organizers too and I forgot to post a pic... Also made by Ernst, cut to fit... Work great for combo wrenches (I have some Armstrong long pattern, and Craftsman raised panel)... Seemed *okay* for DBE & DOE... Probably more of a space saver for the open ends because of the lobster claw dimensions vs box ends that are already pretty compact.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ZIS8QU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I pulled the pliers organizers out yesterday after the test fit and cleaned the cut ends a little nicer, then I put a dab of "liquid electrical tape" over the bare metal cut ends and let dry overnight. Today I put everything back and did some more re-organizing of my tool box.

Worked on the little Wilton some more, straightened down the lock-down handles and polished them up some. The screws for the jaws are almost stripped out (no idea why, the jaws didn't look to be removed in decades as the crud had them wedged in tight) so I looked on lowes for replacements. Too late to go today but I'll head there in the morning.

Did this over several days to create one video. Yeah I know, a little out of the norm for here. And a little WTF, but some people thought it was funny.

Watch the completed project here

FINALLY got done with my STi after all these months. Drove it today and it didn't blow up or crash so I am guessing I did something right..lol It's weird having a car apart for months.. I felt like I would forget something. But no extra bolts is always a good sign...lol

Wife hasn't even owned her 2018' NX for 3 weeks now and I am already modding it.

Swapped cheap plastic pedals for the F-Sport aluminum ones. Adding illuminated door sills, and adding mud guards. I've got a 3 week wait on the OEM JDM illuminated cup holders but those should look bad *** once I get them and install them.

Also forgot to post pictures last week when I changed out my hood dampers on the STi. I've had Tein hood dampers which look awesome on the car for over 10+ years. They don't quite open the hood enough. I am too used to Mercedes anymore where the freaking hood is at a 90' angle. Why more manufactures don't do this still makes me wonder.

My Tein hood dampers were making some noise... probably starting to wear out and just a lot easier to open in terms of not that slow steady pace... it was more of a I am almost pushing the hood up.

First picture are Teins. Second picture is new Grimmspeed hood dampers. These open the hood almost 90' degrees.

This should have been a 5 minute install but OF COURSE the stupid ball bolts that are attached to the inner fender snapped in half as I was unscrewing them. It was odd. Almost no force was used when they snapped. I checked and they were completely rusted. Pretty much fused into the fender threads. I had to drill/retap said hole. After that they were a 5 minute install but this whole process took an hour. Both sides actually. It was funny. I asked my wife to hold the hood. I said this will take no time at all just bare with me for 30 seconds as I unscrew this bolt.... Driver side: "SNAP", "Are you f'ing kidding me". Passenger side: "SNAP", "Welp I'd be pissed but that doesn't do any good". I was quite surprised at my temper. Seems like I'm controlling it better as I get old, or just used to **** breaking so it doesn't piss me off like it used to.

I used the factory open webbed cast iron wing that was not made for anything but supporting plywood and modded it to accept a homemade router plate.

Pics are at;

VERY impressive! And nice shop! Is that vise on the metal bench an old US made rotater?

Got bored and made a grinding station out of scrap I had laying around. Debating whether or not to put on casters or leveling feet as my floor isn't perfect. Gotta grind someedges and paint it in the spring.

The joys of a 15x30 shop with enough **** to fill a 40x60. Did a full service(axles, trans, etc.) on one of our trucks and a plow, as well as started tearing down a trencher. My work area was clean and organized yesterday morning. My box slowly disappeared as the day went on.

Busy day of easy things today. Put a billet grill in a friends new Silverado, installed my new brake controller and got my compressor filter and regulator together so I can finally use my new compressor!

So the Grimmspeed units open the hood to almost 90 degrees & you don't need to change the mounting points? Hmmm, I may have to get some of those.

Still doing it: Playing Tetris to make room for a 10 drawer card file cab that should swallow the contents of a stack of carry boxes and more. I'm doing well enough I may put two of the card files there! there! (Had one sitting & waiting for over a year now...)
