Has anyone gotten the plastic grip replaced on their Snap-On die grinder? I picked mine up off the peg board the other day and noticed the grip was all cracked and broken. At this point about a 1/3 of it has come off. The grinder still works fine it's just not very comfy to handle anymore.

Yeah, mine crumbled off years ago. Wrap with your choice of whatever and party on Wayne. Mine's wrapped in black gorilla tape.

New black colored replacement covers are available from Snap-on. I have replaced several of mine. You can find them on their website. Locate the grinder under power tools. When you open the listing, you will find a tab for parts. Click there and you should find them. The new covers are made from a more flexible material and go on easily

I just saw that on their site. I ordered one but it said they were out of stock. I'll see if it ever gets shipped.

Did you have to take the grinder apart much to install the new one?

Well, at least it was easy enough to get. Trying to get a replacement part like that from one of the other tool truck companies would have been a nightmare.

Yeah it was pretty easy. I just went to the die grinder page and selected parts and it was right in there. The new jacket is much more pliable than the original was.

Thank you for this. I came across this thread while searching and trying to find if anyone knew if these new jackets fit on the older die grinders that had the solid colored red or orange jacket. Mine also crumbled off so I am going to replace mine. Glad to know there is one that fits.

Ok, so why isn't this free on warranty? I know its $13, but this is a warranty failure. I don't have much SO but do have a die grinder and 2 cutoffs that are like this. It won't kill me to buy them if mine fail but this is clearly warranty IMO. Yes glass full view its available and not expensive, but its SO, where is the warranty you pay for?

Because the warranty on power tools is 1 year. I have 2 of the Pt250 cutoff grinders, same body different head, I had to replace both covers. They are both over 15 years old and still run like new and replaced the covers last year.

How long should the warranty be, and at what cost?

On a side note, those solid colored covers are discontinued only the newer style all black is available.

Just drive out the roll pin at holds the throttle lever in place and slid cover on.

Ok, but this isn't the power tool itself it's a rubber cover. And apparently it fails from age, not use. I dont expect them to replace a die grinder I ran 24/7 for a year. If you can warranty a ratchet or screwdriver 20 yrs after you bought it, and worn it out from normal use, why not a rubber cover that failed- and not from normal use, but from their chosen incorrect composition of the rubber? Yes, their terms say no, and fine and it's ok, it's not warranty, we lose if it fails. It's not the fine print, its reality. I don't expect SO to warranty a phillips screwdriver tip I wore out from normal use, but they will. But they won't replace this on warranty? Regardless of their terms, this should be a warranty if it fails and overall looks good. If you dragged it behind your car, no. But if it looks good but cracked they should stand behind it.

I understand their terms; they win, i buy a new one when mine cracks, but that doesnt change my opinion

Yeah there is just really no substantial warranty on most pro power/air tools unfortunately.

I own one of those older orange plastic handled die grinders! It has always worked great and the handle is still in good shape. Very nice to know a replacement grip exists. Cheap. Great post.

Were you able to fit a newer jacket for your older model? I have an older pt210 that had solid orange jacket that has crumbled? If so got a part number I can use?

Thanks for that. I bought a new jacket months ago to replace an orange plastic jacket that's in a half-dozen pieces. I have entirely failed to install it (so far). I think that's a project for tomorrow.
Have a part number for the new jacket?
