I'm curious how much these actually go for when they come up for sale. I'm sure condition and location affect price a ton, but wondering if anyone has a ballpark idea on their expected price range.

thanks
Charlie

Hmm, this one sold for more then $2000 with the stand. Wish I could find them that cheap Maui. Is it a CL listing?

Was that the one sold by chuck in Tucson?

I haven’t seen any of his restorations on cl for a while. Wonder if he got out of the game? His lathes and drill presses were especially sweet.

It all depends on where and who you buy it from. I have several 8” Parker’s and the most I paid for one is $250. Which came on a nice stand. I’ve been lucky enough to get them for $50. But that doesn’t happen often.

I'm sure that I'm not the only person that would love to see some photos of your (-3-) 8" Parker vises!

What models are they?

These are the only pictures I have on hand at the moment. Parker 958 and a Parker 60X. I recently weighed the 60X and found it to be just under 300 lbs. Static jaw was 154 lbs. and the dynamic weighed in at 143 lbs. it’s funny because it actually looks pretty small in the pics.
I have others scattered around just don’t have any pictures at the moment.

Thanks all for the info. Were there any other 8" models other than the 60, 958, and 978? Does anyone know the estimated years of manufacture of these models?

Thanks for posting the photos, they're such an important part of any vise thread.

Both vises look to be in descent shape. The Parker 60X was they're most heavy-duty stationary model they ever manufactured. I've attached some specs for you on that model.

If I were to list them today, as they are in the photo's, I'd be very firm @ $1500 ea. If they had new jaws from KMScott and were properly painted on a nice stand, the 60X would eventually sell around $2500.

Both of these vises are extremely rare and the demand for them is very high! I would recommend that you do a little research on the existing vise threads and some supplemental searches on the internet.

Oh yeah, where did you say you were picking these up from?:3gears:

Here are some pictures of a 958 that I picked up today. (I'm guessing a few of us here were looking at the same vise). The guy who was selling it said he has had it since the 80s and it originally came out of a GE plant in the Albany area. It has a few layers of patina on it and the jaws seem pretty good. Very solid. I'm still figuring out how I'm going to get it out of my truck!

Nice job! It's in beautiful condition! What a **** beast!

Want some more good news? A really beat-up Reed 108 just sold on eBay for $1399. Yours is worth much more!

Here's a pic of the 958 after I cleaned it up and painted it.

Nice job on the clean up and paint color. The green looks almost like self etching primer ? I have used it with a satin clear over the top. Pictures just don't do justice as to the huge size of these 8" vises.

What a beast! I'm a great one for peel 'em and paint 'em, but I don't think I'd touch that one. It's got character.

I just saw your restoration pix in post 16. ....mmmm maybe I was wrong.
How far can you open it before the workbench tips over?:willy_nil
