Not mine - from a CL ad for a bunch of older Snap On. A box set with an old logo.

Nice bunch of ferret stuff. I have always enjoyed collecting them. Here is a 1940s set.

I bought a few of these, only one came with tray! It's a handy little size, no doubt frequently vultured by those selling these boxes.

Yes sometimes to make more room in bottom it gets pitched. I have found the later trays do fit in the fb 50

Is mine the more modern version of those FB50 boxes?
It's about 20 years old, I got it new. 18 1/2" long, 6 3/4" wide and 5" high.
It's the box I carry almost everywhere for 'get out of trouble' jobs, perfect length for a 18" breaker bar and perfect height to fit under the back seat of a Land Rover Station Wagon and also neatly fits into the corner of the cabs on my John Deeres..

They're not in the current catalogue, hardly any metal boxes now just those horrible clumsy plastic things!

What does the "ferret" name refer to? Period? Design?

.

back in the day a ferret was well known critter that could
get into tight spaces. the 3/8 drive size was designed for that purpose, so calling it a ferret set immediatly brought that to mind.

Good name for a tool set to get into small dark places.. Small, agile and flexible with string teeth! I used to have a pet ferret called Fred, he was trained to go into rabbit holes and chase them out into a net so i could catch them..

The red tray pictured earlier in the fb 50 is a 60s version and is dimensional the same other than the divisions. I don't think snap on changed these boxes much for a very long time, mostly just the model numbers and the dividers.

In the last picture, I added the smaller box. I currently use both for my job. I can’t remember the model of the small one, but has 1955 date stamp on it.

i am not sure. they may still make one!

Ah, yes, thank you, using the box number I looked it up....
To buy the modern version of LesserSon's lovely set of tools to have in my KRA250B box would be a 48 tool set no. 248FB and cost me £1,393 plus tax...

Other options would be the 92 piece tools only set 292FB for £2,237 +tax
or the 262MFB metric set 62 tools only for £1,621 + tax

It makes vintage tools seem quite economical...

Yes I agree. I have been accused of spending to much on used tools, but they are usually a fraction of new. I picked this up some time ago for 600$ and thought it a bargain at 3 times the price. I suspect new from snap on would be 4k or so? I use it at the shop when i need 3/4 drive and works as well as any of the newer snap on stuff I have, and cost me far less!

1937-38 date codes. I don't think they ever used it much as none of the tools show much wear. Still works great!

I spotted this 3/4-inch drive TQ-602A at my flea market this morning, in its original case, with original removable handles. No, I did not buy it, and at that crazy prize, I did not even make an offer. I did snap some pictures. Regrettably, the close-up of the dial does not show the patent numbers well enough. They made this model from 1942 into the 1960's. I have a few 1940's era Torqometers and I am guessing 50's or 60's on this one. Could be wrong.

I picked up an ugly Allen wrench set on Friday because the roll resembled my '45 Duro ignition wrench roll. I finally got around to checking it out more thoroughly and found the Snap-on logo. I believe that it was made in '53 or '54. Here are some pictures.

Snap on F710S rat. Has a 51 code. not listed in the cats.
I had always wondered if Snap on really made this, but another collector told me a drawing of it was in the 54 industrial cat, pg 37. I still cannot figure out why it was made this way.

After seeing this beautiful set, I was inspired to take mine off of the back burner and start looking for tools to fill it up.

That ratchet’s so cool. The picture makes it even better. That trumps all of their stubbies.
