Thank you, one and all, specially 1/2cup (for starting this topic) for a very interesting read. By the way I remember in high school trying to study by 25 cycle power in Ontario.
Cheers.

Cheers.

What do I need to charge my Dell computer and our cell phones while traveling in Australia. We will be staying in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Canberra, and Sydney? Our phones have USB chargers which should work with an Aussie charger. My Dell has a US plug on the transformer.
Check the fine print on EACH power adapter- most will be 110-240V compatible, so all you need is a little $5 prong adapter. (So all you need is to stuff the US prongs into the weird aussie slots..)
These are 3 for $10 on amazon

They are pretty available. All over sydney, airport, etc
Have a good trip. Read In a Sunburned Country before you go.
Oh, if you want to not get too screwed on cell phone, unlock your phone and buy a sim when you get to the airport in Oz. $20, 30 and you will have like gobs of data...
Some of the Airport purchased adapters I would be careful with. US to AU is very straight forward. As Ard stated make sure the adapters are voltage tolerant as in Aust we are 240 Volts at the wall socket.
As for phone plans check before you leave with your Telco about international roaming and let them know your plans so you do not get a heavy bill when you get home.
Oh another thing not Phone or Elec related but your $US will get you further as today $1-00 AU = $0-79c US. So I suggest you buy the power adapters here.
Verizon is $10 a day to add Australia to our current plan!
