TEX: first of thanks for the KUDOS and glad i figured out the fix for posting up to 7 pics per post until the new site gets up to it's full speed. also I like all these threads as much or maybe more than you do so no thanks necessary and thanks for liking them.

i don't know anything about the green one other than I want one and can you post the dimensions and maybe a few more pictures with the one or two of the drawers open? VERY NICE FIND!!

I have seen a lot of equipto, lista, lyon and maybe a few other brands of that style cabinet with the little bins, but i think that's the first one i've seen with 8 drawers across.

i'm not sure if equipto or any of the other companies still sells new bins that would fit it, but guessing if they do they wouldn't be cheap so i'd maybe keep the top or make it the bottom row full of the bins and use the slots or make some wood or metal bins yourself to fill it up.

looks like a good project and the bins are worth a few bucks each so you can just use those which always come in handy (ask me how i know).

Drives reasd the psot jsut above that last pic from TRS

Also if you resize so the site does not have to, pics load just fine, even 7 at a time... That is why you are having issues

Outlaw: so TRS bought the one he posted and not the one with the key holders?

do you have that demo post you always post handy cause i think it's my new Iphone that is making pics too large and that's a entirely new rabbit hole fix i need to explore?

I'll give yours a try now, but the paperclip has been working well for me for years until just this last week or so.

Yes to the TRS Q.

Drives the paper clip has nothing to do with the error. Its the size of the source pics. If you make them smaller the issue goes away. The resizing function on GJ is hiccuping. Use a resizing function before loading them on GJ.

He accepted our previously negotiated price and apologized (too much). There is a story, but I have dinner guests so it will have to wait.

Good Deal!! Was it worth the wait? It looks good.

TRS: what am i missing cause the last picture you posted isn't the same cabinet that you posted before that Jeff said was for old locks? I like this last cabinet and if you maybe can post up a few more pictures of it with the drawers or door open please do.

ALL: some of you might know that i like (maybe that isn't a good enough word) metal cabinets so thought you might like to see how i use them. I started a thread cause i really need to scale my buying and get rid of a few storage units in case you want to see more, but here's a few examples of where i put some of these cool cabinets.

please excuse the mess as i'm GETTING ORGANIZED and take a peek at my thread in garage gallery as you see me stop playing Dance of the Cabinets or Garage Tetris and get my garage in shape again.

cheers and have a great weekend

BTW I'm able to download 7 pics per post cause it do it 1 or 2 at a time cause until GJ's transfer to their new site is completed if you try to download 3 or more pics at a time you get a security token notice and it kicks them out!! Slow and steady for now is the best way.

hi drives, what can you tell me about that white cabinet under the metal desk in your 1st pic. neat looking piece.

CF: i'm pretty sure i posted that one a few months ago when i bought it and it's a great fit under that bench that is for certain. i'm hoping to get the surface rust off it and coat it with BLO soon so i can start putting stuff in it. i'll post the pictures again so you don't have to look them up. there aren't any rusted out spots that i know of and other than it fitting that spot almost perfectly I like it a lot and glad i found a spot for it.

Outlaw: even with my new phone I didn't have the RE SIZING picture thing you are talking about before this new site upgrade or transfer. my paperclip method is still working and i just need to download 2 pics at a time until i get to 7 pictures so i'll keep doing that until i need to change or decide I want to learn a new method/way of posting pictures.

Fowl: have you hung that cabinet yet or are you still getting your new garage organized?

Mark: are you smiling/laughing cause you NOW OWN IT? that is one sweet cabinet and I love Hamilton's quality. did you have to haul it home in 3 pieces or did you just roll it on a trailer like that and then off and into your garage?

WOW that's a beauty.

Thanks for the compliment. It was easy to disassemble & reassemble. Transported by trailer and refrigerator dolly. I wish I could keep it, but I have no space. Of the dozens of cabinets & benches that I've flipped, this is the nicest one.

Mark: i totally understand and that said i'd try to maybe think twice and try to make a spot for it cause that thing looks AWESOME and would look great in your shop if you can find a spot and sell the stuff it's replacing.

cheers and thanks for sharing and letting me (us) know what we are missing.

Cheers

Edit: No room in my shop for anything larger than my 60" x 18" workbench.

Mark: i certainly understand that you (we) can't keep all the cool stuff we find and good to know that selling the Hamilton will fund a few other things.

speaking of cool stuff what is your bench top made of? also I can't recall seeing pictures of your American Scale swivel jaw vise.

The bench frame came with our house. It had a junky top, which got thrown away. I bought an antique office desk from our neighbor, cut the top in half, laminated the 2 halves and refinished it. The size is great for my garage to save floor space.

The American Scale 75H vise is one that I restored 5 years ago. Although I had it for sale, the offers were too low. I'm glad to keep it.

5 years ago, I bought 5 sets of NOS steel conveyor legs. I was then able to buy old desks with solid wood tops, and make & sell small, heavy duty, custom work benches. The Wilton Bullet was my model.

Sometimes I have a project that needs a large bench top. I salvaged the top of my Dad's work bench (legs were rotten) and mounted steel collapsable legs under it.

Cheers

Posted this box in the vintage toolboxes thread. Figured I'd share it here. Isn't mine but I wish it were. Posted locally on CL.

First time I've ever seen a Chevrolet tool cabinet. Original patina from the '50s. The seller states that they could be bought by Chevrolet dealership mechanics when they started. Wish it were a $1000 cheaper. Guy is asking $1200.

TX: I owned an old Army cabinet like JM posted and seen others and they all seem to have a nice thick 1.5-2 inch wood butcher block top. they also litterly hold a ton cause I bet i had 200 pounds of nuts, bolts and steel what nots in each drawer when i owned mine.

also thanks for sharing that cool old Chevy cabinet that I see is priced for the guys that own a restored 57 chevy.

JM: great cabinet and if mine would have had wheels/casters on mine I probably wouldn't have let it go to a friend that begged me for it.

No matter what else happens, it's always a good day when I bring home something from the flea market that I can share on a Drivesitfar thread! :)

I don't know anything about Rebuth, except that it looks like they were a steel parts and services company in New York. The cabinet is pre-1947 (pre-Area Code). Only one shelf inside, but plenty of room for all kinds of stuff on the shelf, in the main compartment, and on top. I'll post more pics later. Honestly, I just liked the advertising and the chart on the door.

Lug: thanks for the nice words and I probably would have bought that box too that you found. are there shelves or drawers in the inside?

ALL: speaking of metal cabinets i think we could also post up small metal boxes cause I own more than a few and I know i've seen others so post them up if you have some and have time.

I'm doing some ORGANIZING and I sold a few too many flat files so I still needed one and this brown Cole one found it's way to my storage unit somehow. it's 47 inches wide and 35 inches deep and each drawer is 2.5 inches thick and built like a TANK.

I can also tell you it wasn't easy moving it even without the drawers in it by myself especially to sit on top of the other Cole flat files I own with limited space to move in my storage unit. it should hold a lot of stuff that i have in boxes and bucket so I can actually find them when I need them.

hope you are all enjoying your friday!!

One shelf. And the door has some holes for hanging hooks. See pics below.

Close. This one is 25" H x 19" W x 12" D. It's gotta sit on top of something, I'm just not sure what yet.

That is a great looking cabinet!
Thanks, Jay!

Playing some ketchup...

Here is a military box I got for free a little while back. Going to clean and paint this summer.
Free? FREE??!! :shocking:

I think that's the one that has been posted a couple of time now. Cool box!
Yup.

Nice box junkman! Is the top wood or metal? Looks like it's on casters too. ??
Wood. Not originally, added later.

Those are them! Federal Stock Number 41-C-15.

I've posted mine a few times. (See thumbnail.) Tin Medic has a few. And Mr._P just found one that he showed on the 2018 Garage Sale thread. His post is linked
here.

They were bolted side-by-side on the back of various flatbed trucks (Dodge 1.5 ton, GMC CCKW 2.5 ton, etc) for mobile maintenance operations in WWII and after. The security bars are almost always missing. They also kept the drawers from sliding around and opening in transit. I passed some diagrams and photos along to Mr._P in a 2018 Garage Sale thread post, linked here, if anyone is interested.

Here is a box made by a machinist. He said when he was hired his initiation was to make his own toolbox.

Just like the first welding project is a cart for your welder. Carpenters build workbenches, sheet metal guys build something out of sheet metal. My father in law made rings for all his kids and their kids. Baby rings, wedding rings stuff like that. All I have left of the stained glass I did is the practice pieces. The first projects.

Two very smart features are the extra tall handle and permanently-hinged front door.

All I have left of the stained glass I did is the practice pieces.
Stained glass? Who were you working for and what were you making?

OTG: I love those old hand made tool boxes and i've got a few and all were built to last 100 years or more.

Twertsy: I love that layout with those shelves and it would be great for drawers or bins like these wood ones i'm planning on making a cabinet for or these metal ones that you can sometimes find loose at sales.

Lug: thanks for the history on that cool old cabinet and i wish i had the one I let go a couple years ago cause I finally have a good spot for it if I put casters on it and a grinder and/or buffer and vise on the butcher block top.

Here is a military cabinet that I picked up the other day. Not sure of the branch of service or the time period but it is stenciled that it's for vehicle repair parts and tools. A few pics. I have a spot for it in the shop so at least it fits in. Ed.
