Not mine - from a CL ad for a bunch of older Snap On. A box set with an old logo.

that sure looks like it!
Is mine the more modern version of those FB50 boxes?
It's about 20 years old, I got it new. 18 1/2" long, 6 3/4" wide and 5" high.
It's the box I carry almost everywhere for 'get out of trouble' jobs, perfect length for a 18" breaker bar and perfect height to fit under the back seat of a Land Rover Station Wagon and also neatly fits into the corner of the cabs on my John Deeres..
They're not in the current catalogue, hardly any metal boxes now just those horrible clumsy plastic things!
Here is a carry box snap on made for ferret stuff starting around 36, the fb50
What does the "ferret" name refer to? Period? Design?
.
back in the day a ferret was well known critter that could
get into tight spaces. the 3/8 drive size was designed for that purpose, so calling it a ferret set immediatly brought that to mind.
looks to be Snap-on KRA-250B. tote tray KRA-250A38 was originally included with the box.
S-O jealous of your removeable tray! My FB50 was missing it when I acquired it. And had a rusted-through corner. Something caustic had stripped a good portion of the paint and decal (early 1940s triangle), so I repainted the exterior. See https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6573378&postcount=421
for the No84 Ferret set.
i am not sure. they may still make one!
that's a very rare set, what year is this one?Yes I agree. I have been accused of spending to much on used tools, but they are usually a fraction of new. I picked this up some time ago for 600$ and thought it a bargain at 3 times the price. I suspect new from snap on would be 4k or so? I use it at the shop when i need 3/4 drive and works as well as any of the newer snap on stuff I have, and cost me far less!
Nice bunch of ferret stuff. I have always enjoyed collecting them. Here is a 1940s set.
Snap on F710S rat. Has a 51 code. not listed in the cats.
I had always wondered if Snap on really made this, but another collector told me a drawing of it was in the 54 industrial cat, pg 37. I still cannot figure out why it was made this way.
