A little high on the price. But it looks to be in pretty good shape. If you need it and can afford it, I would buy it. If you treat it right and don't use it as an anvil, it will outlive your grandkids.

Tom,

Thanks!- I’ll see if there is any wiggle room on the price. I’d still have to ship it back to San Diego...

Looks to be very early and in good condition as you stated. I'm thinking late 1800's based on the model number and the shape of the surfaces that contact the top and front lip of your bench. Technically your bench will need to be notched to mount the vise correctly.

And sure $85 isn't a bad price. If you could pick it up for less great but it's an antique that is surely over 100 years old and as already mentioned, you could actually use it and it could still last another 100+ years.

Very nice turn of the century Vulcan no. "C"

I don't see many of these, let alone in that condition. It seems that the North-East has an unfair advantage over the rest of the country with regard to the old vises.

At $85, it's not a steal, but you're not going to lose money, if you decide to sell.

I really like Parker's, so keep that in consideration with my advice.

You're supposed to barter. Unless it's in one of those antique malls where the owner just rents booths out to absentee sellers, offer $50. Good chance it will take you somewhere lower than $85.

And yes, you guys in the northeast ****! You have a plethora of all kinds of old things. Here in Florida, the oldest things we have here are the retirees. Guess what they all sold off before moving down here?

Here in the northeast you sometimes almost feel bad at what you can get stuff for in the "wild" like at a garage sale. I recently snagged a bunch of Craftsmen V series large sockets for 10 cents a pop. I got a snap-on 1/2 breaker bar from the 1950s for a dollar at the same sale.

Agree on the unfair advantage- i’m From San Diego and am only here for a handful of weeks. Want to talk about not a lot of these available... Try living in San Diego!

Also- It is in fact one of those places that has absentee sellers. I asked and they said they could give 10% off. Problem is i’m Here on travel/orders (military) and I either have to fly back with it or have it shipped... on the fence on this one. I have a similarly sized Columbian 504 1/2 That I restored and really like, but this thing is nice and the age/ condition have me seriously thinking about it!

JJ/ Mark,

Appreciate your feedback. Should I put it on the forum under “Deals” for any local folks to take advantage of it?

I would stick with the Columbian you already have (I remember the post). #1. Its already there. #2. the Columbian you have is a flat bottom mounting- you don't have to deal with that front lip, or make a spacer block to mount it.#3. the Parker won't do anything your Columbian won't do. I guess, we're talking Ford or Chevy here...

Nice vise. I have mounted several non swivel Parkers and it is pretty simple. Start with an non PT 2x that is wide enough. Yours would probably fit on a 2x10. Use a chisel to make a slot on the end for the vise support. Mount the vise to the 2x and then mount the whole thing to your bench. Make sure you have enough overhang so you can clamp a broomstick in the vise and have it clear the bench.

Dumper,

Thanks- All things that were going through my mind as I decided I didn't "need" a second large vise (that and the fact I didn't want to have to take is as a "carry-on" on the flit back).

That being said, and since I already kind of spent that money in my mind, I am eyeballing a nice 11 drawer Kennedy machinist toolbox now... I think I have a problem.

Thanks for you input!

Jim,

Copy and thanks. I have decided to "hold what I have" so to speak with regards to the vise. It was a good looking vise though.

Thanks for the feedback regarding mounting though.
