I picked up this 2000 F350 for a project, it has an Omaha Utility service bed on it. I also found a flat-bed that I want to install after removing the utility bed. I see some rough areas that need some metal work etc.

I guess I have no idea whats involved in fitting the flat bed onto the F350 frame?

Do you have a cab and chassis truck or was it a dually pickup that had box removed?
Currently rehabbing a 2002 f550 crewcab

Forgive me for threadjacking....but what’s the difference?
I thought a cab & chassis was just a truck that was going to be upfitted after it left the factory so they left the bed off. Is that not the case?

Cab to axle spacing is longer on the cab and chassis. With fords it’s usually 60” or 84”
Dually pickups it’s 56” ish
Fords have narrow frame and wide frames with cab and chassis having narrow frames in the back behind the cab, and then axle spacing and other things go along with that change....

A cab and chassis is built to fullsize(straight and semi truck) frame spacing so up fitting(bed installs) is more universal troughout the industry

Don't forget that C&C also have the rear mounted fuel tank that is known to delaminate in some cases. Here's my 2000 7.3 after pulling the 12' box off using only a floor jack and cut offs from a deck build.
And my current truck in the foreground.

Two suggestions.

1) Use durable spacer blocks between the bed and the truck frame. Untreated wood is only temporary. Steel is best.

2) Either use the original holes in the top frame rail or clamp the bed to the frame by using long bolts and a crossbar under the lower frame rail. Don't drill any new holes in the top or bottom of the frame. Attachment to the frame web (vertical) should only be used for positioning, not load bearing. Let the weight rest on the top frame rail.
