Thanks for posting this. I have done this rebate for the past several years.

The deal is actually $17 off if you purchase oil + any Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filter or Mobil 1 Motorcycle Oil Filter.

I always purchase both the oil and filter.

Apparently there is a walmart promo code for 15% off online orders: HELLO15
I haven't tried it myself, but SD says it works.

Since walmart doesn't include a receipt with orders shipped to home, I think you'll need to do in-store pickup, and then make sure to request a copy of the pickup receipt showing the price paid.

Unfortunately walmart doesn't sell one of the filters I need. If you're in the same boat, there is promo at AutoZone:

$35.99 OCS 5Qts or 5Qt Jug of Mobil 1 Extended Performance Motor Oil & a Mobil 1 Oil Filter up to $14.99 or a filter greater than $14.99 the oil change special will be $35.99 plus the difference between the filter price and $14.99
Expiration: March 05, 2018

So assuming the regular cost of your filter is $14.99 or less, the price after rebate will be $35.99 - $17 rebate = $17.99 for both oil and filter. Last year there was an additional mail-in rebate from autozone for $5. I don't see a current rebate this time.

All you need to do to get this deal is pick the items up in store - no coupon needed. Online orders do not need a coupon either - you will see the discount in your cart. Here's a screenshot of my cart:

Not a fan of bundling with the filter. I guess I don't understand the allure of overpaying for an aftermarket brand filter when OEM is significantly cheaper and manufacturer approved. For example my Toyota uses a filter that runs $3.89 at my local dealer, that cheap for the infallable factory piece!

It's guaranteed for 12k miles/1 year warranty and if it fails and kills the engine, I have a case with Toyota for reimbursement of covered repairs.

Mobil1 makes a good filter but why pay $15 for the privilege (or $10 after taking into account the rebate). I can get nearly 4 OEM filters for the same price. If Mobile does make a bad batch they have little to loose. If Toyota does, and they install them free under warranty for 2 years under planned service, there is a good chance they are paying for a bunch of engines open shut case no way out for them. Not a case with them if they fail, they just pay no question since they did all the work. So they make the quality impeccable.

Other brands are the same. Motorcraft filters are even cheaper than Toyota, I've gotten the ones for my car in the $2.50 range before. Made in USA and again manufacturer backed.

I think I see more arguments about oil and filters on the Internet than anything else save politics. So I don't want to start an argument :D

...but IMHO I think there is no clear best practice here. Obviously you can't go wrong with the OEM filter. In my case, I can get an OEM filter for around $6, so the M1 filter is about $4 more. Yes, that's nearly double, but it is still just $4 for a year. I have compared the OEM filter to the M1 filter and there is a noticeable difference in build quality IMO. I doubt that the M1 filter does a *worse* job than the OEM filter, and it potentially does a better job. For $4, I'm willing to pony up.

Regardless, in my case there is no price difference when using this promo:

If I buy the oil at walmart for $26 - $12 rebate, I'm at $14. Add the cost of the OEM filter for $6. Total cost: $20.

If I use the package deal at AutoZone, the cost is $36.50 for oil + filter (see screenshot above). Minus $17 rebate, I'm at $19.50.

So the costs in my case are nearly identical, and I feel I'm better off with the M1 filter vs. OEM for a few reasons.

Costco, Walmart, Amazon, Advance Auto, Autozone, O-Reilly, Pep Boys and many other locations are NOT included on the approved retailer list for the rebate.

The "participating retailers includes" wording confuses every time.

Amazon is specifically excluded, but the list they have on their website is not exhaustive.

You can call the 800 number and ask if the retailer you want to use is included (e.g., autozone).

I used autozone last year at this time and got the rebate. I first called the 800 number and they confirmed autozone is included.

People have already called on the current promo about walmart and they confirmed they are included.

Yes, it does work. I just got 2-5 quart jugs for $43.28. Pick up tomorrow.
THANKS! Weird thing is...it didn't charge me any tax.

I read through the SD thread to find that out as well and saw multiple people confirming it was at all retailers. I think the wording is a little different than it used to be and it makes it sound like that is a complete list.

I have done this at AutoZone in the past for oil/filter. Combine it with discounted gift cards (cardcash.com or similar) and $5 back through the ibotta app you can get two oil changes for under $20. :rocker:

Please let us know if the receipt they give you has prices on it concerned it may not be acceptable for rebate submitting.

They didn't give me a receipt. Was told I would get an email so I assuming I have to use my online receipt.

I also clicked the link on the Mobil 1 site for online rebate submission and I got the code 404- File or directory not found. :willy_nil

I don't think your online receipt is actually a receipt. I think it is more of an order confirmation. This has been an issue in the past with walmart online orders and the rebate has not been honored when the online order confirmation was used. You can read more about it on SD if you want.

online walmart orders are a pain for rebates. they don't print out an invoice with all the info that refund processors want - date, item, price all on the same page. at a minimum, you'll need two emails from walmart - "order received. arrives ....." and "your order has been delivered...." these two emails together have the info they want. But if they're being dicky, they'll refuse it and make you call in and waste more time than you saved by not going to the store.

pennzoil rebate was a pain with online walmart orders. 1 went through just fine, another took 3 resubmisssions of multiple pages/screenprints to get it done.

walmart in-store will match walmart.com pricing but, obviously, they won't match online discounts or portals so put a value on your time and do the math. unless you feel lucky, punk. well, do ya? :)

I in fact did not feel lucky nor had the desire to deal with returns desk. So said fudge it.

If anyone does try the online receipts do let us know for next time.

Guys, if you want to order from wal-mart, you need to do like I stated in the 3rd post:

Since walmart doesn't include a receipt with orders shipped to home, I think you'll need to do in-store pickup, and then make sure to request a copy of the pickup receipt showing the price paid.

Again, do in-store pickup AND request a copy of the pickup receipt. The pickup receipt looks similar to a regular in-store receipt and has all the required info on it.

From what I have read on other forums, nobody has been denied Walmart, but some people had issues with Amazon... YMMV of course...

I know mine got approved last spring using Amazon.

Maybe it has something to do with the price paid? Maybe there is a minimum they look for when reviewing the rebates.

We shall see I guess, because I just submitted a rebate for $24 this morning on an Amazon order.

Is this something new about ordering online from walmart? I've always ordered online and submitted the email confirmation receipt for the rebate and never had an issue. I've probably done it at least 5 or 6 times already and i always get the check in the mail about 6 weeks later.

AutoZone is running five quarts of Mobil 1 plus a Mobil 1 filter for $29.99 through April 2nd. I'm not sure I've ever seen them run that special that cheap.

I submitted a screen capture of an online order from Walmart last year and didn't have any issues getting the rebate.

Yep I bought that autozone deal yesterday x’s 2 and filled out the rebate online. Did the same from autozone last year as well. Opted for digital check so that will be a first. Claimed faster processing time, we will see.

Yeah, I did too. We'll see how that plays out.

Presumably the paper checks have to be batch printed. If so, they may hold approved rebates for weeks before printing and sending them out. With a digital check there's no reason someone can't approve these on a daily basis and send them right out via email.

Red89gt,
I am assuming you put in for (2) $17 rebates? I sometimes wonder if there's something in the fineprint details that make this deal ineligible for the rebate. You did this last year and it was successful?

Yes, I put in for two at the same time. When you fill out the form online it even has option for two rebates which are the limit per mailing address.

I have done this rebate four times in the past couple years with purchases from Costco. I buy when the Mobil rebate AND the Costco discount are in effect...and pay about $3/qt for Mobil1. Worked every time.
