I'm back!

This weekend, none of the estate sales or yard sales turned up any tools. Near my house however, there was a garage sale sign, I ended up driving 5 miles out into the middle of nowhere thinking "there better be something good here". Well there was, i picked up this baldor dental buffer for $30. Im going to change the plug to a grounded one, however, it works like a charm and has absolutely no vibration.

Nice find!

Nice little $20 Snap On 1/4 THL936A find!
Freaking orange too?! Looks like it's in pretty damn good shape, little bit of that snappy feel still left to enjoy!

A good friend of mine has a private moment every time I bring him something orange, lol. Great find!

Browsing Craigslist the other day & came across this. Damn thing was still there today. I called, still available so I'm going Thursday to pick-up.

I probably did not link this correct, looking for some info. Never have seen a SK box like this, or at this price.

I got 5 wrenches at a sale from the bottom of a rusty tool box and there was one Plomb in it. I took some steel wool to get off the grime and it looks ok and was happy to see the name.. The others were old Blue Point wrenches. Each wrench was 50 cents cause the looked like **** the lady said.

HARD to pass up BP and Plomb at 50 cents each! What BPs did you get?

Hey folks,

Back from my usual winter break (because there's no sales and because I'm too busy at work).

No sales yet, and haven't got much to report yet but I did end up buying a snowmobile ******** a friend yesterday.

Sort of like this one:
$_35.JPG

Gave him 100 $ for it, which seems quite steep considering that's about what they go for new, but I got this along with it also :

As found, hasn't run or been outside in 2.5 years; 1993 Bombardier Safari 377cc
39757125325_cf6735e8ff_c.jpg

Quick wipe down after getting it home:
25782289457_88ea82d826_c.jpg

And it even came with the manual:
39757125035_6692eb8d92_c.jpg

Doesn't start, but I'm betting a quick carb clean, draining the old gas (which hopefully hasn't turned to sludge) and it'll fire up. Thing is in pretty much mint condition, has 4,300km's on it. Got it from a friend who's had it since 2004 to use to drive less than 1km back and forth to his camp on his own land. I also have the registration, which is pretty rare for an older sled.

There, now I've got 91 pages to catch up on. Wish me luck.

Tim: welcome back!! so if you get that running does the golf course next to you allow these on the course during the winter or do you just drive it out the garage and drive to the store in these where you live?

also just an FYI that might help you when you are catching up on threads. go in your GJ profile and they added a feature that gives you 100 posts per page on longer or fast moving threads like this one to make it easier to read.

ALL: i'm GETTING ORGANIZED so not much shopping, but i did manage to pick up a few things i'll post later as i get time to take a few pics.

hope you are all having fun finding your cool stuff.

lp,
Am I recalling correctly that you have some meat processing posters you were giving away? If so I was thinking my son-in-law would love that. Let me know if it's possible and what it would cost.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, you are correct. I will pony up $25 for prints & postage for Hexen, whatever I have left will go to prints for the group. I'll put up a thread and let ya know what prints will cost.
You'll get whatever's left of my $25 after Hexen gets his set since you hit spot #2.
I'll be in touch when it happens later this week/early next week.

I'd suggest also checking with your copy shop about the cost of appropriately-sized mailing tubes. :)

It has been a long time since I've posted in garage journal... but I'd like to start making a come back. I thought y'all would appreciate one of my latest hauls.
A Snap on Triple bank Pit box tool wagon, completely filled with tools... and everyone's favorite color... purple!!!
This is my first Pit wagon I've seen in person. The turning radius on this thing is equivalent to if you attached two school buses end to end, and tried to make a turn with them.
Rolls easy, turns terribly, but it sure does look sweet...
Here's when I picked it up.

Ok, ran over and grabbed this from Craigslist tonight. 4.5" jaws, made in USA, and vXX stamping. I wiped it down and greased it back up. Smooth as butter.

I got it and a pair of 3ton jackstands for 15 bucks. Jackstands are already sold to a friend, so the vise was free!0a3bd85dae82aa7cac902600a1aaf395.jpg

Swing: sorry to hear about your burnt hands. in case you have time and want to tell others what not to do i started a SAFETY 101 thread a while back that you can. hope you heal up quick and great finds.

in case you might want to spiff up that axe here's a thread where a member just spiffed up his Gramp's old axe head that i think you've already posted stuff on:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377463

Waggoneer: you have to be up there with the best at finding great deals on big boxes. it sounds like that Snappy turns like my old Lincoln torpedo 3 phase welder, but i bet it holds a ton of tools and stuff. nice find and best of luck finding a good home for it.

ALL: not sure why I like old WWII ship hatches, but i found a few more that i'll probably make a workbench or maybe a table out of.

keep up the great work finding that cool stuff everybody and we all like lots of pictures and the stories if there is any history about an item to tell us.

That's going to be heard to beat, Swing! How did you date it? Not challenging you, mainly because I don't have the expertise to. I'm just curious, since it's such an esoteric collectible, requiring some deep knowledge of Japanese edged weapons I would think.

Yes it is. Too bad the side pipes fell off.
HAHA!

This is the difference between Drives and me. Drives'es first thought is to capture the experience/anecdote for the ultimate benefit of expanding safety awareness for others. I just want to know how the hell Swing burned his hand!

Not at all! A friend of mine who grew up in Tokyo and is a university professor translated the Kanji signature for me. Top to bottom gives the date, Province, family name, given name, “made this”.

After the translation you can go back through swordsmith records at organizations like NBTHK and determine more concretely the date. The smiths name was Kuni Ju (Family name), Shimosaka (given name). It was forged in the Yamashiro Province of Japan.

Lesson of the day..... static electricity will set off gun powder just as fast as gasoline....

If you’re reloading bench has a steel top, replace it or WEAR GROUNDING STRAPS!!

Holy smokes, Swing. Looks like you were wearing safety glasses, which is a good thing. What step were you at? Measuring? Funneling? Trickling? Or pouring into the cases in a casing block?

Swing: DAMN that looks PAINFUL. OUCH!!

thanks for posting your accident over on the safety 101 thread. just in case you don't have time to read the entire thread there is one post on there where a member was wearing some of the newer fabric clothing around his welder and it burst into flames and sent him to the EMERGENCY ROOM.

it's a good read if you have a minute cause even knowing that a little bench grinder can KILL you if the stone has a crack or hole in it is helpful.

ALL: HAPPY HUNTING and STAY SAFE!!!

Was planning on hitting this estate sale when they opened at 8am, but between working on my shelf install yesterday and my neighbors down the street had a water leak issue that I had to help with last night... Things didn't exactly go as planned this morning.... So I did my errands as I was heading in the direction of the sale this morning and I made it there a little before 10am I think...

There wasn't a lot of tools to begin with from what I saw in the pics. Most of the people that showed up were really interested in some Bose stereo system? I dunno...

Tools were pretty picked over, and lots of things I just didn't need as I already had way too many of anyhow (I like to leave good finds for other people that might need them)...

Spent $24 total... Got two Garmin's (both with lifetime map updates), a Nuvi 50LM and Nuvi 1300LM, and accessories. A bypass pruner, which I could have used a couple weeks ago when I was trimming my rose bush. A really long extension cord, I think 100', 10amp so I'm guessing only 16 gauge. 8" Crescent USA and 4" Williams adjustable wrenches. Some little pipe cleaner thingy, some fly paper (comes in real handy in the garage during the summer), and a couple plastic trays.

I had just finished up charging and seating. I tend to combine steps since that’s just how my brain works. Lucky the loaded rounds weren’t nearby or they mighta cooked off too.

Hello, I've been watching local sales for portable tool boxes to buy cheap and restore, this weekend I got a Snap On KRA-24 (79) for $15 and a Kennedy Two Drawer 220-9317 for $40, but the interesting thing is that while the Snap On was clean and empty the Kennedy was listed as "contains some tools".

I never gave much thought to the tools, figuring they were probably garbage, I was interested in the box, originally listed for $75, when it didn't sell after several weeks I offered $40.

Turns out I could barely lift the box because it was crammed full of vintage tools, all USA brands. Included were 11 DOE, 16 Combination, 3 DBE wrenches. A whole bunch of small files and allen wrenches. Blackhawk 3/8 and Proto 1/2 speed drivers. 52 sockets (all USA brands). 1/2 Bonney ratchet and extensions. And some assorted hammers and punches. Also a mystery Snap On tool marked USN that has stumped the band over in the Vintage Tools forum.

Here are some pictures, all of this was inside the Kennedy box. (first seven, continued on next post)

Craigslist is my garage sale.

Snagged these hex drive ratchets the other day with a pile of files and 2 1500watt electric heaters for $30. The heaters were $10 each, and so by the time you count out the files, these ratchets were less than a buck each.

Keystone and Indestro brands. Both work smoothly but the indestro got bent at some time and the shell is coming apart a little at the top.549e73a12ae3e52c76d91e521a1ae2c1.jpg

Forgot to include pictures of the tool boxes.

Is there a # on the Keystone ratchet?
