Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

I did most of my mods as I was building it... would have been too hard to do it after it was built.

Remember... don't tighten any bolts until the whole freaking thing is together and straight.

I planned to get one in blue yesterday, but my plan was foiled.

My wife broke her 5 year old iPad screen first thing in the morning yesterday, so we went to get her a new iPad. Best Buy is running an $80 off sale on iPads this weekend, and mine was broken as well, so I wound up buying two iPads. The iPad sale ends today, and apple care+ is only $69 at Best Buy.

I’ll get a new blue toolbox next time they are on sale. Hopefully they will blue side shelves by then.

Agreed, but if thats all he had room for, he did good for the money (I didnt listed, just watched, so not sure if he mentioned that). If room isnt an issue, Id get 3 like you mentioned and each one would be set up for specific uses.

Word on the street from some HF peeps is they will likely "extend pricing" next weekend as well.

Was at HF today... the 5 drawer is still on sale for $149... was told by the manager it will be on sale for a bit longer. They had plenty of red in stock. Black can be found... They got TWO blue carts before their sidewalk sale... both sold before the event even started.

I found a unicorn while I was there... an 8 drawer bottom 26" roller without the top chest on clearance as an open box. Even tho the box was clearly not opened or damaged at all... it is now my bench grinder platform... with lots of storage...

Got mine together yesterday. So far it’s great. Going to add a side tray, mount the magnetic bars on the inside of the lid and then put the non slip liner on the top of the lid as well.

Would love to have done the mod above to put 2 together and have drawers all the way down but that seems like it will be quite the task. Hopefully they’ll release the side drawer addition in Black soon

I'm in the process of putting magnetic strips on the inside of the lids and, with three generations worth of accumulated fasteners hiding in various drawers, there is not one 1/4-20 nut to be found. Or four matching nuts and bolts of any other size.

One mod complete and two in the works. I completed a hammer rack using three 5/16-18 u-bolts.

I'm​ about halfway through fabbing a power tool rack out of three 8 inch lengths of 3 inch PVC. I'm waiting for a particular type of side tray to arrive in the mail and once that happens, it SHOULD be a matter of minutes to finish it. Unless Mr. Murphy shows up, then all bets are off.
Mod number 3 (not pictured) is putting magnetic strips on the inside of the lid to hold mini screwdrivers and the like. I'm waiting for hardware. A bolt! A bolt! My kingdom for a bolt!

Not sure this will make you feel better but if there isn't a Harbor Freight store nearby, it's also $299 (US) with shipping here in the states.

I got a blue one last weekend, it was one of two left and had the less damaged packaging of the two. Got it home and unpacked and the bottom shelf was all bent up with cracks in the powder coat and the small drawers in the main unit won’t close right

Have to wait to take it back until they get more blue ones in stock so I can exchange it. Then may try to buy it for cheap as damaged and use for the stacked bottom drawers mod.

However, I got a raincheck for one, at the sale price of 149.99. He said they didn't have any coming in on the truck this coming tuesday, but call the following tuesday and see if any were in.

My manager said they are refusing rain checks for a color... saying while they have red stock... they won't raincheck the $149. I'm trying to get him to call me if they ever get "just the bottom" on their 26" stacked toolbox pair again.

I bought one last week that was "open box"... man is it nice.

Needed to clean the slides as the grease installed in china dried up... cleaned and greased... slides like a penguin on his belly across an ice lake.

After getting my new blue 5-drawer cart I decided I wanted to build a pair of holders for a cordless drill and impact driver. This is hardly a new idea, but it is simple and works well.

I decided to attach mine to my cart (one on each side) so I bolted mine to a small piece of aluminum channel. For contrast, I painted mine with the Rustoleum Hammertone Silver and attached it to the cart with a pair of pop-rivets. I think it works well and looks pretty good too.
