Thanks Duker!

I bought one of the air guns previously posted. Handle was broken. Total ****. The inspections are worthless.

I just bought a brand new set of tools on Amazon. The item's box had clearly been opened and 90% of the tools were gone. It even had stickers on it saying "missing pieces" and "damaged". Amazon clearly has no standards on return inspections.

The worst part is if you buy something on a markdown and it arrives like that, you can't exchange it for another.

Oh, and as for a deal:
Wolo (365) The Enforcer Siren and Air Horn - 3 Emergency Sirens, 1 Truck Air Horn Sound

I've been reading this forum every day (multiple times) and have seen deals I should jump on, but I don't understand what's going on here. Is Amazon really selling tools that have been used by someone else? Ho the heck do they get them, and if that's the case, I'm out. I learned my lesson buying tools at pawn shops. Professionals who use the duck out of them pawn them when they realize they're going to die soon. Conversely, if these are "scratch and dent" or packaging got messed up tools, I'm all in.

They're almost always new returns or damaged packaging. Sometimes the item itself has some cosmetic defects, but that is typically noted. From my own experience and what others have said, items are usually in better condition than described.

But as said, their "inspections" are a joke and you may occasionally get an item missing pieces, well used, or even a different item all together.

As others have mentioned most are damaged packaging or a customer return. Unfortunately sometimes we get burned because a “customer” switches out a product or its been broken and Amazon just “repackages” it and sells it again. However, If you don’t mind the hassle of the occasional return then you can get some pretty good deals. I just bought a 3M pneumatic sander and a 9” Metabo grinder for about half of what I would have paid for the sander alone. Both were brand new but their packaging had been beat up probably in the warehouse.

I have tried to purchase insulated over-boots, twice now in the last couple weeks. I needed and ordered XXL and so far they have sent me L and yesterday they were M. While both pairs were new returns still with tags attached, one the box was damaged and the other was in a plastic bag. Not complaining (too much) as they are/will be awesome boots and I bought them for $26-$28 while new ones are $118+. At this rate, I only have a couple more shots to get a pair that fits, otherwise the whole neighborhood will have nice boots and it would have been less expensive for me to just purchase new!

as many have pointed out, there are a lot of great deals for every clunker.

one thing i have decided from long exposure to these deals is that i won't buy something that is not available for immediate shipment. sometimes it sez: "backordered, available for shipment on DATE". that means that it is being returned by someone, and amazon is listing it for sale before it even arrives and is inspected.

the failure rate on those seems really high, at lease for me, so i dont go there anymore.

YMMV.

Yost Vises 660 6" Mechanics Bench Vise

$101.86 Eligible for free shipping with Amazon Prime.
Used - Very Good
Item will come in original packaging. Packaging will be damaged.

Hopefully this isn't too far off topic of the thread - but is this a decent vice for a home garage? I don't need anything fancy, but don't want super sloppy junk either.

I bought one of these a couple months ago. What I got was as expected, a very nice Mitutoyo indicator minus the cal sheet. The indicator has a cal sticker on it from Mitutoyo, so it's the real deal. I wasn't too heartbroken since I'm just a hobbyist.
