I have 30x40 Mueller metal building. I would like to hang a ceiling fan in the middle where the I beam is. What have y'all done to mount the fan? Do you have any pictures how it's mounted? What would be the the proper term for this kind of box? I have read something about a wide beam flange mount. I do have a welder, could/should I just weld the box? Mostly joking about welding it. Thanks in advance

If your mounting a standard ceiling fan like one in the house. The electrical boxes made for that purpose would all be fine they even make one that slips right onto the hoist bottom edge. If you’re talking those “ big *** fans” ( real name ) gonna need to read their requirements.

What sort of fan?

Most of the metal industrial fans mount with a ~3/8 J bolt, just drill a hole in the beam.

I’m curious about which fan as well. I’d love a couple fans in mine. Is there a more cost effective version of the big *** fans? I like the large size, quiet slow revolutions.

The other option I was thinking about is some metal enclosed wall fans.

mine is just a regular fan https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001B1C8Q6/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I was thinking about buying this fan and just chain it to the ceiling lol

That first one is sort of like a low end industrial fan, it just takes a regular fan box. I'd get a metal one and bolt it to the beam, or as you said welding it would be fine to!

For $100+ for the second fan you could by a real industrial fan that could move a TON more air.
This URL="https://images.tradeservice.com/07CUZE021ZVYNQ3E/ATTACHMENTS/DIR100072/MARLEYE00007_1_8.pdf"]Leading Edge CPF56[/URL] is a nice fan and can be had for around $130

I would also recomend a speed control since I doubt you want to run the fan at full tilt all the time.
