Coatings Brain Dump

I don't care what business your in, you always get customers who do things that are less than desirable and then they say "but you never told me" even if you did

I've had some crazy stuff happen this last week. One customer mixed the epoxy in a 5 gallon pail, and after reading our instructions about it hardening once mixed, decided to put a lid on the pail to keep it from curing

Another was doing their base coat this weekend and coming back later to do the top coat.

And then I remember... I've been doing this so long and said these things so many times. I was frustrated and sat down at my computer and did a complete brain dump. I guess I am curious, what else do you want to know or think should be added. Feel free to comment here or on the blog post.

I think one of the key benefits to polyurea for some people that does not get mentioned as much, is the advantage of being able to apply it in cooler temps than epoxy. Many people who live in cooler climates are limited to a specific time of the year to apply an epoxy coating.

Lost in the info sometimes is the fact that coatings need to be applied, as well as go through the 24-72 hour cure process, at temps above the minimum allowed by the manufacturer. This includes the evenings when temperatures drop.

Love the comment about the $500 brick by the way. It must have been a smoking brick as well...

The folks that have these issues are probably not going to read the "brain-dump" as I don't believe they read directions.

Luckily, these are a small exception and most customers do it right and frankly the results are amazing!

Some will read, some will scan just like I did.
So, if those important directions are at the bottom in bullet form, I didn't get to them.

YEAH... NO... YEAH.

We have actual directions. Your point is well taken. Actually somewhat intentional. I am kind of throwing it all on a page in an unfinished format. I have an intern here that will go through and get it a little more organized. I'm thinking some bookmarks.

Good point re the cure process. I had that in there and then I took it out because it varies sooo much. I will find a way to work it back in with for example....

Your right most customers do it right. And honestly its not limited to coatings, its just harder to fix with coatings in some cases. The best customers are the ones who call with questions.
