New blue toy...

Prowling through the pawn shops today, came across a pretty blue machine sitting there neglected. I've always been a Lincoln man, but couldn't pass this one up...should be perfect for my other shop, hopefully my extra TIG set up will work with it.

Anyone familiar with the Miller Multimatic 215?

I have the 211 that looks the same less the screen. Wire feed wise, the machines are identical in specs and performance. The arc characteristics are phenomenal. You might wanna upgrade the MIG gun and ground clamp (maybe even the lead too), but as-is it's pretty nice to use. Very good on both 120 and 240.

I have a decent amount of #2 welding wire, should be plenty for the ground....just not sure if the factory quick connect will accept that size wire.

Cost was $550 out the door, which included tax. Crazy thing is, I really didn't need another welder as I already have 4 Lincolns....but it was hard to pass this one up considering the condition it was in. Plus, being dual voltage makes it a lot more versatile. Now, I just need to fab up a cart for it!

I'm debating on ordering a spool gun for aluminum, and possibly the TIG kit...the extra TIG kit I have is set up a little differently, but I might be able to make it work. If that's the case, then all I would need is the foot pedal.

I looked at my quick connects, not sure they will take #2 wire...they are 25mn Dinse style, and I think the max wire is a #4.

Yeah that's right, they're the small dinse...you might be able to make it work with a little persuasion. Probably not worth the hassle if you're not maxing the thing out all the time. Though sometimes I find that it's just too short.

I'm going to try and make the #2 work, as I have plenty of it (but zero #4 wire). The main thing I want to do is make the ground lead longer, and possibly make up a set of longer stick leads. I'd like a set of 50' stick leads, and #2 should be fine for this machine.

You STOLE it for $550! I had been searching for a used 211 forever and stumbled upon a 141 that is literally brand new in the box for $400. I thought I had a smokin' deal. Not sure if I'm gonna keep it or what at this point.

Would love to find one of these used around me. Been eyeballing them quite a bit and even had one in an online shopping cart. Gonna head up to local store and see what they can do. Let us know how it does. Lotta videos on them but either Miller sponsored or quick basic vids, not much real welding talk.

I played around with it a bit in MIG at 120v on some 3/16" mild steel, and it ran great...still waiting on my 240v plug adapter, had to order one. I really want to see how it will do on 3/16-1/4" with .030" solid wire, but I suspect it will do fine. I tried out the auto-set feature, which seemed to be pretty close. It will definitely take some getting used to, I'm not accustomed to anything this fancy!

Still haven't decided if I want to add a spool gun or not, and still debating on whether or not I want to put together a TIG setup. I already have 2x TIG machines, so spending money on a 3rd for mild steel is kind of pointless. That being said, an entire TIG kit with torch, hose, regulator, and foot pedal is under $400.

Check out Arc Zone. They have about every connector you could need. I bought the adapter for my Precision Tig so I could use other tig torches on that machine, a lot cheaper that buying the Lincoln stuff.

I have an extra torch and gauge set, but its not the "flow through" style (it has a stud on the end with separate gas hose). I *might* be able to make it work, but it may be easier to just buy the Miller kit.

They have all kinds, I remember seeing the seperate hose for gas. I was just using my Lincoln for an example as they are proud of there accessories.

Yea I just paid 1200 for a new one!!!


Someone must have been seriously hard up to pawn the thing for less than 550 bucks! They could have received way more than that on craigslist or something

The pawn shops around here charge almost new prices for things like that. I looked at a really, really beat 250 and their price was only a few hundred less than new.

Nice. You'll be surprised what it will do on 240v...it's got some serious grunt when cranked up.

I have the Spoolmate 150 and it's "ok". It works. I don't like that you need to disconnect the MIG gun to use it. My machine's warranty will be up in September, so I plan on addressing that issue with a couple modifications [emoji41]

I mean, if you have no other way of welding aluminum, sure. It's one more tool to have in the arsenal. For me though, it's not the answer. A TIG machine would be much better for smaller or more delicate things, where totally independent control of the arc vs. the filler is required. I'm glad I have it, but I still want a good AC/DC TIG machine...if that makes sense.
