Facom 1/2" metric set. and she brought it here from Germany. 8-32mm sockets and all the accessories.

Nice score! - I only have one Facom wrench (a 20 x 22 DOE) and it's made in France. Is your set French or German? Of course, it could have been an import into Germany. Just curious

Just looked at the pix again - France clearly marked on a socket.

Thanks! Yup. All French.

There were no sales I could find today in my area but I dropped by a neighbors place who puts stuff out every other week-ish. He let me dig thru a box of sockets and I found the missing Craftsman =V= sockets to complete a set of sockets that my Dad had. I also found some 12 pt. deep sockets to start a set and the smallest pair of locking pliers I have ever seen. Not a screaming deal, but it will be nice to add Dad's set to my box.

Neat, about how long are the pliers? The smallest I've seen is the mini locking pliers set at Harbor Freight, each 4-5in total length.

PS: tiny tools thread :)

My day started slow. One of the good things is that most of the sales were local to my little town instead of my normal 25 to 30 miles one way to the bigger towns.

Pic 1: First sale advertised tools but not really any there. Picked up the Penzoil toy truck, 3 blue industrial shipping boxes and the ammo crate someone painted green unfortunately for $7 total.
The second sale looked real good in the pictures, lots of pictures of the shop full of stuff. Real life was much different, Harbor Freight and import stuff, very little USA. I only spent $2 for a pack of steel wool, small C-clamp and a brass wire brush.

I was beginning to think the day would be a bust because the 3rd sale did not have much in the pictures I was interested in.
Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised! Lot's of goodies hiding there and not many guys showed up for it. I was one of the first in the garage and started picking!
Pic 2, 3, 4: My favorite stuff is usually the Sears and Craftsman stuff for my collection so I was glad to get the Dunlap hatchet, Sears staples and drawer handle pulls, Craftsman easy-outs, masonry bits, nutdriver and my favorite, the Crown logo 9-4026 stainless steel combination rule!
I also picked up the Wright 3/8" drive socket set, Thorsen socket, Blachkhawk USA puller, vintage Crescent wrench with box and the Apex bit driver that still had 5 Apex bit's in the hollow handle!
Pic 5: l also picked up the vintage Waylett machete made in Sheffield England, vintage Lufkin Challenge Junior 50' tape measure with a leather wrapped case, Camillus Fisherman's Luck knife, 20 mule team model instructions and what are probably the most valuable things in the whole bunch, the Pactra paint kits from the 1950's! The one with the Boeing 707 is dated 1957 and is apparently scarce!
Pic 6: I also picked up a decently built small workbench with a Littlestown wood vise but my other pics didn't come out, here it is strapped to the roof of the Excursion LOL.
I paid $66 at this stop, nearly half was the workbench. That included $4 for various canned soups, chili and salsa, gotta get cheap food so I have more money for the next sale!

The wife went to a neighborhood garage sale and came back with these two bins for $15. The larger one must’ve been used at a library or something because in the files there are some names of books. Not sure what I’m going to do with it yet. It is super heavy though. IMG_3196.jpgIMG_3197.jpg

looks like the original SWMBO is advertising...
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/230361697702446

Haha! I amazed at the power and reach of this thread--less than 24 hrs after she posted it.

Yep, that's my mother! Truly a SWMBO if there ever was one...just ask my Dad.

For those who like to keep track of resales, my Original SWMBO (i.e. my Mom) just sold the Coke machine as is for $200 to a guy who drove 2 hours to come get it.

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7107495&postcount=2281

Not bad for something we dug up out of the ground after 30+ years! As an added bonus, OSWMBO's vacuum cleaner died yesterday, so the sale translated to a new vacuum cleaner for the house. I wonder if any of that other junk down there is worth anything...

Sunset, I used to have a stack of those two drawer card files (they will interlock...) as tall as a file cabinet, and kept parts in them I "graduated" away from then and moved them down the line, but they worked well for a long time.. I may still have one left. not sure...

ps: I like the flat drawer set. That could be useful at my inside workbench

Man... I really want to go hit some more sales today... But it's so darn cold outside! Still only 27F... Just a couple days ago it was like in the 70's... and in a couple days from now I'm sure we will be back there... lol.

Not much out there today after it rained all yesterday and last night. but I did manage two stops, only the first was productive.

A post block based strip and disk sander - made in Taiwan craftsman 1/2 HP. I'm hoping the strip sander will fit onto a block I have setup for wire wheeling. Those would be the two most common uses for bench grinders and the like for my shop, and then it would all be in one footprint.

It came on a shop built stand all of 24" tall and 13" square. Not sure what that is good for...

$30.

Army. The brackets in the center, top and bottom, between the drawers, is for a security bar. When padlocked, it prevented the drawers from being opened. These were bolted onto the beds of trucks used as mobile repair shops. A few of us WWII guys have them. Nice find!

I thought they’d be good to store taps and dies in. My father in law saw it and said he’d like to have one to keep different types of sandpaper in it. I think I’m gonna let him have it.

After weeding out the Chineseum, I was left with this.

I use a plastic file folder box to store sandpaper in. Cheap, and you can even use the hanging folders for separating small quantity grades. The bigger boxes of sandpaper fit right in. I like it FAR better than other sandpaper storage things I've seen used. You can get them narrow in depth or "full depth" depending on the amount you need to store.

The rain finally stopped and I ventured out to an estate sale 5 minutes away. This company advertises their sales as “Fun Estate Sales” but the fun always stops when it’s time to pay. At least it was close to home. Almost all of the shiny tools were Craftsman =v= and there was a cool wood handle Union hardware hacksaw.

No Joy in mudville. The strip sander of the newer style is NOT compatible with the older block...

In other news, The stand has been claimed by my daughter to make into a small table/stool.

I'm also thinking the 1/2HP rating is fiction based on a 3 Amp power rating

Went to an estate sale this afternoon since it was nice and sunny and finally I think hit 40F... Nice old lady was downsizing because she was moving into a smaller house...

Got the following (first pic) for $8...

S-K 1-1/8" Combo wrench
Stanley USA small carpenter's square
Freud Carbide Router Bit (unused)
Flexible plunger grabber thingy....
Fiskars Hedge Shears with the "powergear" (gives a mechanical advantage)
Craftsman branded oiler

Not pictured were some nice little Williams Sonoma soup bowls, 50-cents each ($2 for the set of 4). :)

Second pic... all the sockets I bought this morning... found a few more wrenches and other misc things down in the bottom of some of the bins. Also got a set of T-handle allen wrenches in SAE & Metric, and four GearWrench pass-thru ratchets, with a 3/4" socket in them I think. Too bad the guy didn't have any other pass-thru sockets.

Dang EOC! That's a ton of sockets. I wish I only paid $40, but it may as well work out to that much once I make one more deal this Monday. More to follow...

I'll guess $150?

And as for EOC's massive pile of NOS sockets (and the previous massive pile of NOS wrenches etc), I'm guessing he'll be slowly working through those for resale for years to come...

LOL... Well, your guess is closer than his, but still low... But yeah, got to buy them when you can get a good price & qty.

I'll probably have them for quite a while. Hopefully next week I can start sorting & inventory of them... Just spending a couple minutes I was already finding lots I didn't have before so I might be able to put together some decent continuous socket sets, along with selling individually of course.

I think you got turned around, we were guessing what Mr_P paid for HIS haul and you had guessed $40. ;)

Outlawmws. Nice score on the belt sander. I just gave my old one just like it to my brother today after I scored a slightly more powerful Rutland (Taiwan) that replaces it. Brother found leather strop belts for these sanders that really put a great edge on our knives.

Used mine for the first time yesterday, it still gets the job done.

I need to take some pics, I'm behind, and found some cool #7 vise grips that look pretty old school.

Long C CI DBE.
Wartime I think No7 vice grip pat apr 14, 1942.
Great unplated 45170 <S-K>.

Oh, so that's what those are for! I saw some at an estate sale a couple months ago, was told they were for such an old type of brakes that nobody with any recent vehicle needs them anymore, and didn't bother to look into the specifics further. My current vehicle (about 4 years old) would've come with rear drum brakes if I hadn't gotten one with an upgrade package that included rear disc brakes. And of course there's still a lot of used cars on the roads... I'd expect people going to garage/estate sales are probably more likely than average to have lower-package or older/used vehicles that still have at least two drum brakes. :)

Oh, so that's what those are for! I saw some at an estate sale a couple months ago, was told they were for such an old type of brakes that nobody with any recent vehicle needs them anymore, and didn't bother to look into the specifics further.

LOL, you don't *have* to have that tool for working on drum brakes... It just makes the job a MILLION times easier than fighting with a long screwdriver and needle-nose pliers.
