My latest score, your thoughts?

I thought I did pretty good here.

Shopfox w1851 hybrid cabinet saw. New in box, missing the rails $360! Rails from shopfox are $155. New its $1250+

Sorry I don't have more photos of it. Here is a stock photo of it set up.

While my pops is a wood worker, I have little experience in this area. But I love tools and I've wanted a table saw forever. Looking forward to getting familiar with it.

So how'd I do? Also what are your thoughts on rails? I'd love to get a high end aftermarket one for it but I'd rather spend the money elsewhere.

Nice score! Don't know how experienced you are using a table saw but they can be very dangerous unless you know how to use one. Suggest you get some guidance from your dad before experimenting. Or, go on line and read about the proper use of the saw. There are many ways you can lose a finger or worse plus getting hit by pieces of kicked back wood. If you have no experience and think using one is no problem, you are in danger and don't know it!

Just some advice from an old timer who owned a woodworking business for many years and has seen what can happen with these saws. Doesn't mean you should be afraid to use it.......just learn how before you start cutting.

I really got lucky on this one. Dad has a nice Unisaw that's a bit bigger than mine but he said I got a nice saw for just about anything I'll ever need.

Nutts I won it at an auction. Pops said even with it being advertised as missing parts he thought it was going to go for over 600, but I got lucky! My family used to be in the business and now they do it on the side. I've picked up quite a bit over the years and my deal spotting barometer has gotten pretty good.

Glen, thank you for the safety advice. I'd like to think I'm at that age where I don't do anything reckless but I'm still human. That said I have a great deal of respect for all my tools, especially the larger ones that can cause me some damage if I'm not careful. Since I've been building my tool collection for about four years now, I constantly remind myself to not get complacent and I do make safety a priority in the shop. So you are spot on, pops will be coming over to the shop and giving me a course in safety and proper usage. And its always great to work in the shop with dad!

Thanks James. I'm not real familiar with shop fox, but I have heard of them prior to buying the saw. A lot of guys compare them to grizzly and jet. A Taiwan made import. That's about all I know.

From looking at it, it appears solid and well made. It was in at just over 400lbs so it is rigid. Once I get more power in the shop (can't use any of my 220v tools at the moment) I'll start making some saw dust and report back to the journal on my thoughts.

That is a great saw. Go ahead and order the rails from Shop Fox. Even at $155 you are still way ahead. If you are not going to set up the saw in a permanent location get the mobile base that goes with it, you won't regret it. really take some time to set up the saw. Oh by the way.....you ****!

If you have the OEM fence I would just buy their rails, there's bound to be a metric rectangle tube size that's hard to replicate. I forget if a Biesemeyer used a 1-1/2 x 2 or a 2x3 but it was a size that one could find easily in a steel shop. The back was just an angle iron for the plastic foot to "skate" over.

Shop fox and grizzly are part of the same company, shop fox is the better brand of the two. Be careful with the blade tilt, the hybrid saws can have problems with flex and the cuts not being accurate.

Hybrid saws are just lighter weight cabinet saws with smaller motors that can run on 110v... For when you don't want to use a forklift to move your saw around or have a dedicated outlet. It would be my choice if I could ever find one.

Seeing as you have limited experience I would suggest you begin with my ridgid portable table top saw. I will let you borrow it and keeps yours warm until I feel you are ready for it back.

Another vote for the mobile base if you're working in a garage or don't have a full scale shop. Just being able to easily move it to sweep and handle full sheets and reorganize as you figure out how you'll use it would be helpful.
