Fein WSG 11-150 vs Milwaukee 2780

I was using a 6" cup wheel on my Fein 11-150 and it let the smoke out within about 30 seconds. I reached for my M18 Fuel grinder since that was my only other option figuring two burnt out grinders is still cheaper than the minimum 1 hour lost labor purchasing a "more suitable" tool. To my surprise the Fuel finished the job, about 20 AH worth of batteries later. What gives? Was my Fein just on its last legs or are they really giving the German's a run for their manufacturing money over at the TTI plants in China?

FYI it was a 6" Pferd knot cup wheel that lists a shipping weight of 3.67 lbs...

That is a heavy attachment, but your Fein is 9amp and 6" capacity so that shouldnt have been a issue?

Any chance you might have taken it easier on the Fuel? I know my Fuel grinder is easy to feather the throttle with, might have helped?

Impressive that you could finish up the job with it.

They're the same age and get about the same use. Certainly didn't take it easy on either. I'd still get another Fein, in fact I already ordered a replacement Fein. I was impressed with the Fuel, too bad it eats batteries.

If you’re gonna use the Fuel for extended periods of time, look at the 9.0 batteries. You would be shocked at how long they last.

a 6" cup brush has a maximum RPM of around 6500 rpm. Your tool makes around 8500. Typical cup brushes for small angle grinders are 2 1/2", 3" or 3 1/2" max.
6" cup brushes are for 9" grinders.

Monte, I was thinking the same thing. Always used 6" cup brushes with a 9" Makita. The Makita would run them all day.

Used the same cup brush on a 5" Makita rat tail with about 10 amps. Do able but the rpms drop fast and the grinder does get warm. Its hard on the smaller grinders

That's good to know Monte, I've never needed to use a brush so large before and hadn't considered a larger grinder for it... I'm still surprised the Fuel finished the job.
