Maybe I need to join an arts and crafts forum, but it seems like you can find info about everything from the fine folks of The Garage Journal.

I had an early '50's Briggs & Stratton engine that I converted into a lamp. I would like to add the old B&S logo to a lamp shade that you could see when the light is on. Anyone know how to do this? Here is a picture of the logo I would like to use, and a picture of the lamp (the shade on the lamp was borrowed from my wife, not the shade I plan to use).

I have an old floor lamp from my grandparents that twenty five years ago I refinished and mounted onto it a funky retro-kitschy lampshade.

The lampshade is made from old fishing postcards printed on a coarse fabric, laminated to a translucent stiff paperboard. This shade material is laced onto a wire frame like those old Scout leatherwork kits from fifty years ago.

I'd think about this process: (1) digital printing the Briggs & Stratton logo (or logos) onto fabric, (2) laminating the fabric to a suitable plastic or paperboard sheet using an appropriate adhesive (preferably acrylic for UV-stability and clarity), (3) punching holes around the perimeter, and (4) lacing it to a donor wire frame from a shade with the right shape.

One can easily get fabric printed (at least in the form of a T-shirt, and probably many other shapes) from a variety of online sources, including Café Press and others. Perhaps even an outdoor banner or poster at FedEx/Kinkos would work.

I would try inkjet printing on to a transparency and maybe also see through paper like onion skin parchment. Then try affixing it to the inside of the shade, or perhaps between the shade and cloth covering. You could also try removing the cloth completely and affixing the logo to the plastic.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. My main concern is for it to be translucent instead of opaque so it can be read when the light is on.

I showed a picture of your lamp to my brother, and he offered to give me a similar engine he's had kicking around the garage. Don't know if I'll build a lamp out of it, but I'm still going to take it. Maybe I'll build the minibike I always wanted as a kid, or maybe I'll just put it on the shelf so I can look at it.
