Insulating garage door

I've been looking into insulating my garage door (new house, never done this before) and all of the kits I've seen are for a different style of garage door. The ones I've seen seem to fit a door that has vertical dividers near where the hinges are located on the face of the door. My door, shown below, only has 2 horizontal dividers and then the hinges.



Does anyone know if the same insulation kits will work with my door? If not, any ideas on how to insulate the style of door I have?

Any help is appreciated.

Did you check with the door manufacturer and see if they had an insulation kit available for your door?

You could maybe take off the inside door panels and cut some of the pink Styrofoam insulation sheets to fit in the door. You could use the white Styrofoam type if you want, but I think the pink stuff has a little better R-value.

That looks like a door that is pre-insulated. You have an outer metal shell, metal inner shell and then insulation injected in the middle. The insulation kits are designed for doors with a single outer piece of metal that is exposed on the inside.

Plus its a waste of effort because air infiltration thru the joints and stop is greater than most would believe. Especially if the wind blows against it. i accendintly found it by tarping over a 10' door and the wind was blowing from the other side of the garage thru a service door. the tarp bulged big time.

Said the guy that has obviously never lived somewhere that it gets HOT in the summer. Insulating my steel garage door was the best thing that I ever did for comfort in there. Sun shining directly on a steel door in these parts turns it into a giant vertical hot plate.

You can also seal up a garage door pretty well with just a bit of effort.

As for the OP, that indeed appears to be a door that was insulated when it was manufactured.

And adding 1/2" of foam to a cheap door makes a huge difference you'd not believe. Both hot and cold. With decent vinyl on the door frame, not much gets through. And the wind is blowing 25+ here today which is not uncommon.
