I have an old Apple Pro laptop that I use to check for parts on line, you tube how to do it videos, etc. Made sure that there’s no personal data on it in case some body bags it. I take cell phone photos of parts and stuff and then email them to the lap top for reference.

I have A computer in my shop. Got tired of trying to read schematics in my phone. My good computer is in my office though. I have files on a thumb drive that I take between the two. I suppose I could use a cloud for that.

It certainly helps with productivity.

Got my old laptop in the garage for looking stuff up, and Utube howtos. Stream regular tv now and then too. Mostly for background noise while working.

I have a laptop I can take out to the garage if I need to, but I seldom need to. The wireless router we have in the house will reach out to the garage so I have Internet out there if I need it, but again, I seldom need a computer or Internet access out there.

Yep - an Intel NUC mounted to the back of a 27" monitor so the whole thing is pretty easy to pick up and move around when I need to. It gets great wireless reception and the NUC has Bluetooth so it can connect to my speakers. Another similar but cheaper option would be a simple ChromeBox

Not yet, but I repurposed an old router to be a hardwired access point in the shop. It is very nice to have a strong wifi signal out there.

My laptop is in the garage. Mostly I use it to listen to radio or podcasts. I bet most people here would enjoy Gary Sullivan's home improvement podcasts.

No I do not. I work with computers ALL DAY LONG so when I get home that is the last thing I want to see... besides, I have no internet out there and have crappy HughesNet at the house.

I have a computer out there, but it's not my primary computer. It's just used for background music/video or for research. I have a hard-wired ethernet connection back to the house.

Yep. Have an older sff dell desktop. Use it for alldata access, look up stuff, etc. Very handy to have, and don't have to worry about the ipad getting dirty/cracked/abused while out there.

I'm considering moving my desktop out there. Have a 46" TV with cable hooked up already wall mounted. Would also need to buy a new stool which is fine with me. Interesting 5077d8fad3dd0c1b2fd2ca797964d048.jpg

I have a Chromebox (think desktop version of a chromebook) hooked up to an old LCD monitor. I use it just about every time I'm out in the shop. Whether it's ordering parts, viewing .pdf manuals, YouTube how-to videos, whatever, it's one of the most frequently used tools I have.

I do need to get a better laptop for tuning though as I know have 2 vehicles that I can tap into with a laptop and do various things.

I have a desktop in there. I use it for parts lookup, pdf documents, Pandora, tracking work on the cars, CAD drawings. My favorite use is probably Pandora though. I have it linked to my stereo and can listen to what I like all day without commercials.

Since my workshop is 115 miles from my house, I use a combination phone+laptop for Internet access and download what's needed, to save money. I No need to print.

Plus, in the little town near the workshop, the local café has a good wifi, so when I break for coffee, if needed, I take the laptop, but it doesn't stay over night.

When I move the motorhome out there, it might stay.

I bring an old laptop out as needed.

This reminds me though, I need to bring all of my pc's out to the garage and give them the air compressor "********" that they need. It is always good to blow out the dust and stuff in your power supply and other areas in your pc at least once a year!

I have old HP desktop running Windows XP wired back to the house.
I use it (like others do) to play music, search things, etc. I like the bigger screen than my phone and I have it wired into the old stereo out there.

I'm not sure of the age of the box (I've had it at least 6 years) but the monitor is a Gateway flatscreen that is over 15 years old. It lives my my dusty, detached, unheated garage and gets turned on almost every day no matter if it's 20° or 100° in there.
Still works as fine as what it is.

I will probably be sorry I asked this, but here goes anyway. So why is your workshop 115 miles from your house?

I bought a tablet just that purpose among others reasons (like a remote BT music video player :D)

Put a decent quality "armored" plastic /rubberized case with fold out kickstand to hold it up on my work table.

Takes up way less room than even my notebook laptop

I got to get screen protector though touch screen technology and greasy fingers don't mesh well :p

Actually now thinking about I do I have pair of gloves with a special swipe finger on them. Maybe I better start using them. :spit:

Summer heat is way too brutal here to keep any electronics I care about in the garage permanently. I'll bring an old wifi connected 10" tablet to the garage if I'm researching a project and take it back inside the house when I'm done.

I bring my new laptop out when needed, it replaced a painfully slow (and old) toughbook.

I have a 42” LG on an articulating mount for anything I need, blowing up drawings and schematics, manuals, YouTube....oh, and catching the Pats when I’m working out there during a football game.

I did just this last fall.^

Then added a compter as others have for parts look up and video instructions etc. Can use my phone now too on the wifi if needed.
