I use a vintage Milton Driveway Signal bell that I took out of one of the Exxons I worked in when they tore it down in the late 80's. When the front tires roll over the hose and the bell rings, I stop.

That sounds Badd@$$. Pardon the pun. I would love to have something like that. Brings back old memories.

I have one of those rubber strips that is made to run an extension chord through and help prevent damaging the cord.

My in-laws have a laser that's pointed right at a specific detail on the dashboard of my mother-in-laws car when it's parked correctly. It really works well.

For my wife, it's one of those corny little "STOP" signs on a flexible pole. It is motion activated and has flashing little LED lights inside it when you bump the pole with the front bumper. It was actually bought as a gag gift for my (now deceased mother), who had a startling lack of depth perception. After she died and we were cleaning out her house, I grabbed it and brought it home with me. Like I said, it's corny as hell but it actually works great.

My side is a bit different and homebrewed. I have a 2X6X6 board on the floor in front of the legs on my workbench. From that, on either side, I have a red paver brick acting as a spacer, behind rubber wheel chocks. When my wheels hit the chocks, I have exactly 1" of space between my front bumper and the workbench. That only works for my car though......but I rarely if ever pull a different vehicle into my side.

I have a stall matt on the floor in front my work bench, by luck it’s perfectly positioned to tell me when the car that normally parks there is in far enough close the door.
Being only an inch or so thick is easy to pull on onto it when I need more room at the back end of the car in order to access the snow blower.

Wife’s car has a front mounted parking camera with guidelines on the display. I put a strip of red tape on the floor that lines up with the guide lines when the car is far enough in.

Now if I could get her to park within a certain range left to right in the garage so that there is clearance to get around the car on both sides.

My wife does very well with her car. We back our vehicles in to the garage, and she always gets it so that the front end is within an inch or two of the garage door (when closed). She also gets her passenger side nice and close to the wall so that we have more space between vehicles (passenger has to get in/out of the car outside the garage).

Getting her to park straight in the middle stall of the garage (in my X5) is a whole different matter. She still does good front to back, but it is usually crooked as hell (even with the 5 cameras on the thing). I tell her to line up the right side of the car with the door to the house, and the left side with the cabinet...still more crooked than Hillary! :lol_hitti

What do you use for a parking stop/aid?

Every little inch counts in my 19'Lx17'W small 2-car, so I like to use a parking stop that gets my back bumper within a couple of inches of the garage door. This morning I hung one of the pupp's tennis balls from the ceiling to act as a parking stop, but realized there has to be a better method/design for a parking stop/aid.

So, what do you use that allows for inch-by-inch accuracy?

I use the ball and string , hooked up to the garage door. Door goes up ball comes down , door goes down ball goes up. Then it’s out of the way .

I don't like stuff on the floor, but I dislike stuff hanging below head height even more. So each front wheel on my car hits a 2x4 on the floor. Each 2x4 has a nail protruding that goes into a hole in the floor to prevent sliding. The added benefit is that I slap the shifter into neutral and coast up the the 2x4s that stop the car in exactly the correct place, no fuss.

I had a string/tennis ball for the wife as she could never tell where to park and yet, she still has issues. . . pull up to ball, touches windshield, stop. Not pull up another 10".

After I bought a larger truck, I literally had to do the same thing as this truck is much longer and I need the 18" between the truck and door to walk through.

Funny now, the dog has figured out the tennis balls and try to grab them. I think they would keep him entertained for hours if I let him.

At the moment I've just got a 1st-gen Miata in the garage, with a bunch of junk in front of it that occasionally changes, so I just drop the roof, get out of the car and push it where I want it. Easy to see the front bumper while pushing the car by the A-pillar.

Down-side, I discovered, is that it's also easy to run your foot over with the back tire, but on the plus side the car is so light that it doesn't hurt much :bounce:

I have one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001OOEMMI/?tag=atomicindus08-20

It appears to have been discontinued though :( . The little box is a vibration sensor basically you mount to the opener, when it moves (doesn't take much) the lasers turn on. Best thing ever, and don't have a tennis ball hanging in the middle of the garage when I want to use the garage as a "shop"

OP wants “inch by inch accuracy” so do I.

I use a laser. I wired it in by adding one of the light socket inserts that allow an plug between the garage door opener and the bulb. This way whenever the light turns on from the garage door being opened or manually via the wall control the lasers fire and then turn off when the light times out.

My garage and workshop occupy the same space so I try to optimize what I have. I use a dual laser unit that helps me to locate one car as far right and back as possible and the other as far and back as possible.

The lasers are aimed in a way the when they shine on a certain point on my dash, my car is perfectly positioned.

I have tried the tennis ball, tire stops, and wall mounted sensors but this fits my needs best. There is nothing to trip on, no worry about obstructing a wall mounted unit and no hanging fuzzy balls.

Here is the one that I use 9da7674d9b2366135055f35d1e1e5b6f.jpg

It fairly inexpensive (but more than and old tennis ball) and once aimed stays that way.
