What's the model number? I think the newest is 315.HD2000.

I'm not sure of production dates... The two most recent models are:

315.HD2000 - Side Selector
320.51098 / 320.51099 - Top Selector

315 = TTI/Ryobi
320 = Chervon

I'm pretty sure the Chervon are the most recent as that is all the "new" stock I've seen in stores and what you can buy on sears.com. The 315 model you can still find in some stores but not order online (except on searshometown if there is local stock near by).

I don't know what model came before the 315.HD2000

I have a ton of C3 stuff, been thinking about selling it all as I'm slowly investing in Milwaukee M12/M18. I haven't sold it all because around here it goes for penny's on Craigslist.

That’s exactly what I did, sold the whole lot and went with Milwaukee M12 and M18. No regrets at all. I sold most of my C3 stuff on Craigslist, and gave some to friends who had C3 tools.

My hammer drill model number is 315-115800

It has a metal chuck.

According to the list I have the 315.115800 came before the 315.HD2000. The 320.51098/51099 don't even show on my list. :dunno:

Here's the technical list in order of release date.

315.114840
315.115440
315.115800
315.115430
315.HD2000
320.51098 / 320.51099

315.115800 was technically the third hammer drill released, but the first two from back in the day were really, really rare. 115800 is the oldest one that you commonly see. It's based off the original ********* 1/2" drill most of us have owned, and as you mentioned it had a metal two-piece chuck on it. I have one and it's a perfectly fine hammer drill.

It was replaced by model 315.115430 which is pretty similar, but was upgraded to a one-piece metal chuck.

The next model was model 315.HD2000. Internally, it is all identical to the XCP Heavy Duty 1/2" drill, but with the addition of the ramp mechanism to the gearbox that allows it to hammer. Shares all the same parts as HD2000: same motor, same awesome 1/2" all metal Jacobs clutch. It was sold as item number 11543X as a kit, and item 11580X as a bare tool.

Due to the fallout with TTI, the few tools left are being made by Chervon. So the TTI-made 315.HD2000 was replaced by 320.51098 / 320.51099. I've never used one, but it looks almost identical to the HD2000. Chervon was probably tasked with manufacturing an HD2000 clone. I doubt there's really anything too different.

Also, you mention not seeing some tools on your "list." I assume you're talking about the small 1/2 sheet of paper that contains a master list of tools, their manuals, and battery packs, that was packaged with some tools. That is something TTI included. It is a handy list, but it must be noted that it contains no Chervon made tools. So there is no Chervon hammer drill listed, along with the brushless, drill, the cut-out saw, the auto-hammer, or anything else Chervon made. The latest version of that list is version "12-11-14 (REV:24)". That includes every tool TTI made for 19.2 / C3.

Checking eBay, the router and buffer sold in less than a day. Not surprising. The 7.25" saw is still there, though. If you guys haven't owned that model, you'll love it compared the three smaller ones. The smaller ones are handy for sure when you want something small, light, and quick, but the 7.25" is a much more quality piece. Has plenty of power with a big batt pack, a metal shoe, and a metal guard. I have never used my corded saw since I bought one.

A leaf blower just got added, though. One week auction listing. There's been some for sale lately, but they've been missing some of the tube. Might be a good tool with spring coming up. I like mine for blowing grass to the street and sweeping the garage.

I've never seen that, but it is not complete. I should really make a thread detailing of every C3 tool, battery, and charger. After 12 years, there are only a couple tools I have no experience with.

Just letting everyone know, Lowes' website is announcing an April 2 launch of new SBD Craftsman. Maybe nobody cares from a customer standpoint, but I think it's at least profoundly interesting just too see what SBD will do with their billion dollar purchase.

Poking around Lowes website, it looks like there are holding pages for a couple handheld toolboxes and a couple socket sets. The socket sets it appears have a Craftsman version of the Stanley Fatmax 120 tooth ratchet. Not much of interest up yet. I'll keep an eye on it this week. Would love to see something 19.2 compatible show up!

Anyone have any input on the best replacement batteries? My dad has an older impact that needs a new battery. I think he might have the old charger too

If Sears hasn't sent you any decent dollar-off freecash deals, there are plenty of new authentic craftsman brand batteries & chargers on eBay at good prices.

I have too many batteries & chargers as-is... Seems like the bare tools are never available anymore so I always end up buying the full kit.

There was some discussion of the generic brand batteries in here but I don't recall what the consensus was.

Don't get nicad. For an impact the big xcp (or generic equivalent) is going to have the most power. The nicads are too weak and even the small lithiums will just stop even when they have plenty of juice left. Sears would have been wise to just junk all the other batteries long ago, and priced xcp at a reasonable amount.

I haven't heard any complaints on the generics but as mentioned you can still get genuine for pretty cheap on ebay or with points.

Starting April 2nd there will be some mechanic tool sets available online only. The stores are getting some Craftsman products in starting next week, but won't be on the sales floor until the week of May 14. The only item numbers I know of right now are all tool chests. Some 27", some 41", and some 52". All the Kobalt tool chests have been put on clearance to make room for Craftsman. The Bosch 18v cordless tools are all clearance at the local store, presumably to make room for Craftsman cordless, but haven't heard any more info on that.

So the kids usually use the C3 sander, since they think the corded 5" round ones I have are too powerful. The pad for mine fell off some how. Anyone know of a replacement pad for it?

Does anybody have any guidance on how to ship craftsman C3 lithium batteries?

I’m selling off my collection of C3 tools and may need to ship batteries. I think (but am not certain)that there are some restrictions on how to ship lithium batteries.

Please share your methods and any suggestions.

Thanks, Jack

Reading USPS' thing on batteries made zero sense to me. Technically it should be tagged by USPS so they don't air ship it. Alternatively you can ship it via ground methods using UPS / FedEx without issue.

I've shipped using both USPS Priority & FedEx Ground not doing anything special other than just packing it all well (like I do with all my packages).

I looked at my C3 recip manual and it doesn't show jack. Maybe check to make sure nothing got in that slit and maybe give the pin a little squirt of oil?

Mine did that when I got some **** stuck in the slot. Once I cleaned out the mechanism it was fine.

Just 2 days ago I had to lube up the release on mine as it wouldn't let me install a blade.

That’s exactly what I did, sold the whole lot and went with Milwaukee M12 and M18. No regrets at all. I sold most of my C3 stuff on Craigslist, and gave some to friends who had C3 tools.

I'm slowly going with the m12/18 stuff too.... but I have 20+ c3 tools plus 4 or 5 12v Nextec tools. Some of the C3 stuff has only been used on a single project, if ever since these were all in my home garage. I'm thinking about just selling it all, but I hate dealing with some of the craigslist buyers... maybe I should just post the whole lot for sale and hope to get it sold all at once.

I am curious if the "new" Craftsman has any plans for the c3 line....I haven't really be able to find anything out poking around the internet..

Before you put your tools on Craigslist list them here in the classifieds. There are many of us that would be interested.

SO here's what I have in the c3/Nextec Line. I'm back and forth on selling them since I already have a bunch of the tools and they have never let me down, but I have been using my Milwuakee stuff more anyways.

C3:
Drill/Driver
1/4" Impact driver
Right Angle Drill/Driver
Hammer Drill
Max Axess Auto Ratchet and 80 pc Socket set (new)
Wet/dry vac
Hand Vac
Blower
Reciprocating Saw
1/2" impact
LED Spotlight
LED Worklight
18g Nailer
5 1/2" Trim Circular Saw
Inflater
Jig Saw
4 1/2" Angle Grinder
(6) Li-ion Batteries (different sizes)
(2) Ni-Cad Batteries
4 Place Charger/Maintainer
(5) other misc chargers

Nextec:
1/4' Impact Driver
Drill/Driver
Palm Sander
Multi-Tool
(3) Batteries
(2) Chargers

I'm not sure if I want to wait and see if Craftsman comes out with anything else (and I could use the toolbox space now). It would be interesting to see if they did and carried it at Lowes to compete with the Ryobi/Home Depot combo.

Any advice for replacing the chuck on the 1/2" drill? I just can't get the screw loose. Ended up stripping a screwdriver. I even tried running the drill in the opposite direction for more toque until I started to smell smoke. I replaced the chuck on another C3 drill with no problems. Maybe some penetrating oil. Insane.

I’m not sure what SBD will do with Craftsman power tools, but I’m interested to see how it’ll play out, whether they revive the C3 line or release a new line. Either way, Lowes needs a solid DIY power tool lineup to compete with Ryobi. It’s no contest right now.

Craftsman’s C3 could’ve been what Ryobi One+ is right now, if Sears hadn’t destroyed it.

I've never had issues getting the screw loose, IIRC it is a reverse-thread.

Getting the chuck off is a whole different matter. If you have used the drill a lot then it I'm sure is constantly tightening itself on more. I found the biggest allen wrench and a BFH and one hand would swing up with the drill and the other hand down with the hammer and eventually got them to break free... They must have a really angry little chinese dude putting them on because they are way over tightened IMO, even straight out of the box...
