Drawer slide upgrades

I’m looking at a 24” deep husky box, but I’ve had problems with their slides before and that one was the standard 18”, so I just wanted to find out about replacement before I make a decision. How do you determine what slides you need? I would assume depth of the drawer. I know some people will say to buy something nicer, but it’s not in the budget right now and it wouldn’t hurt my feelings too much if a $250 box didn’t last forever.

Sounds like a hare brained scheme to buy a box that you think needs the slides upgraded before you even get it. Pretty unlikely there are upgrades available. I'd buy a used box with better slides before buying a new box with **** slides.

You measure the closed length of the slides, then you measure the spacing of the bayonets. Go to Accuride and download their slide drawings. Look for 200 pound capacity "Pocket & Bayonet" slides.

Even if you had better slides, would the box itself hold up to the heavier load?

I bought a Husky top & Bottom Box from Habitat some years back that had a damaged slide from probably overloaded. I replaced it with either a Hettich or Blum full extension drawer slide. had to drill new holes for the pop rivets , but the new slide is far superior to the OEM.
makes me want to replace them all. and yes, measure the depth of the drawer . an 18" slide will probably measure in the area of 17-1/2 to 3/4

My 40” stack had a slide go out pretty quickly, but other than that it’s pretty sturdy. I just hate the layout for efficiency. I had a 66” mac that I sold because I didn’t need it for work anymore. Now I do need one and the money from the mac is ******* currently. I’m still weighing my options.

I was offered a pretty good deal on a krsc40. It has 3 drawers and bulk storage at the bottom. It would meet my needs for now, but I might want to replace the bulk area with a few drawers in the future. Does anyone know what is involved in changing the configuration and what new drawers would cost?
I have been going back and forth with how I want to set things up. Right now I have my 5 drawer hf cart pretty packed with commonly used tools then my 40” husky top has the rest of my wrenches, pliers, sockets and screwdrivers. My old 26” craftsman is used for specialty tools, parts and random junk. I have my own bay and would like a big box to consolidate everything but then I bounce around when my lift is *******. I am thinking a big cart to hold all my daily stuff and access it efficiently would be good then I can get a stationary box down the road.

That’s kinda what I figured. It’s extreme green and in good shape, so at $400 I would think I could get my money back if I didn’t like it or needed more space.

If it been full bank of drawers it been a good buy.
If want it I try go bit lower like 350-360bucks as then pretty easy flip it down road no loss.
Seems you got a HF 5 drawer cart you don't really need another cart but rather a 50+" cabinet .
I don't like carts as not that useful beside a lift, a 7 drawer 36" box with rubber top way more useful as can dump common in use tool and small parts on the rubber top work surface which can be moved to best spot for convenience and not fannying about in cart top and drawers all day long .

My thinking right now is to get something that can hold everything I use at least weekly as I’m wasting a lot of time going back and forth to my bay for tools when I’m working on multiple cars. I found a Cornwell 7 drawer that I’m interested in. I believe it’s a 700, but not sure. From what I’ve found it’s about 34”, which is a little smaller than I want. I asked the seller about the dimensions and he didn’t know. Communication hasn’t been great, but if I can get a good deal and it meets my needs I might bite.
Does anyone know the drawer width?

So I pulled the trigger on this today. It was a little more than I was planning to spend, but it’s exactly what I wanted and only 2 years old.IMG_1119.jpg
