Dating my Grandfathers Wrenches

Just an update to the tools my Grandfather left me. I cannot find any date codes on his Snap On wrenches.

I've taken a few pics, maybe someone recognizes them?

I know little if anything on Snap-On but am learning from the much more knowledgeable folks. Would the "Made in Canada" eliminate the date code? Maybe it is a stupid question, but I have always believed the only stupid Question is the one you don't ask.

Almost all of his Snap On stuff is made in Canada. It's actually the first time I have seen that......

Yeah, there seems to be little rhyme or reason to the inclusion of SO date codes...

I have a smattering of Canadian SO stuff, and more USA stuff and, upon checking, none of my Canadian wrenches have date codes - and that includes long combos (SAE & Metric), Boxockets, and flare wrenches - but ratchets and sockets do.

I think the best you'll do is to say the wrenches are 1987 or earlier (by the logo style) which you likely already knew.

You may be right.......

He had them prior to 1975 anyways because that's when he retired. Judging by the age of the rest of the stuff I'd guess either late 50's or mid 60's.

If it is any help..........I purchased these off the SO truck around 1956. (they are 7/16 and 1/2" sizes)

Big help - they have date codes!

They're a bit hard to make out, but they're either from 1949 and 1948 (if your memory serves & it was indeed 1956 when they were purchased) or 1959 and 1958... Can you post a close-up of the first photo?

(btw, any chance you're originally from the East Coast?)

It would be the summer of '56. They read "OEX - 16 can 8 " and "OEX - 14 can 9 " Can't get a clearer close-up.

East coast? No why do you ask?

My history: 1942 to 62......Edmonton, 62 to 64.... Calgary, 64 to 68.... Woodstock (Ont), 69 to 80....Montreal, 81 >........T.O.

Yes I did live in Pte Claire for most of my stay. Never lived in NL, but visit frequently as my wife is a "Newfie" My avatar pictures a J/Y in Eddie's Cove W. close to where we visit her relatives........my fav vacation spot!!
