I'm currently planing how I want to run my shop line, (copper) I read that I should run the same diameter supply line as what comes off my compressor. My new compressor has a 3/4 fitting coming out of it and I really didn't want to run such a large supply line, was hoping 1/2 to my regulator and then 1/2 to my 3/8 hose reels was okay.

I have no idea how people can give a definitive answer without the knowing the obvious:

How big is your shop?

Here are the Rapidair recommendations for example:

1/2" up to 75 ft
3/4" up to 150 ft
1" Large volume needs

IIRC, Rapidair's Garage Kit sizing is OD. Copper is ID. 1/2" copper is almost definitely more than enough unless he has an industrial application.

Looks like you missed the point: How could you possibly know this answer is correct without knowing anything about the size or use of his shop?

And just to make it super clear: I'm asking how you (or anyone else in this thread) can give a definitive answer without knowing - apparently missing - critical information. I could care less about the copper or air lines size or whatever.

I would only run bigger than 1/2in line if your useing black pipe, the inside rusts closed....or need more volume. Your running copper so 1/2 should be just fine useing 3/8 air hose.

I understand where you're coming from, but most people here are looking for advice at the home shop, so I based my statements on that. He said he's feeding some 3/8" ID hose reels. From over 30 years of Facilities Maintenance background and quite a few years of managing gas stations with multi bay service shops, I can assure you 1/2" is more than enough for pretty much anything he'll do if it's at home. The production lines in the Pharma plant I ran were only fed by 1/2".
