Hi there!
I'm loading up on tools for work; Just got promoted to a trainee welding position and I'm using this as an excuse to buy all of the tools I want. Older fellas at the factory have lectured me on being responsible, laughed at my giddiness over hunks of metal, and said they're fine with [insert your least favorite tool here].
You delightful nut-jobs can assist in my irresponsibility by telling me what weird, uncommon, homemade, vaguely illegal tools you absolutely love. The tool you are always ready with, the one you're excited to reach for, then one you sometimes have to explain to people. Whether there's a particular brand you like, a kind of tool, or just one specific hammer that granddad broke and then welded back together using the power cord from a toaster, I want to know.
Fencing pliers are, I think, the odd-ball tool for me. I will find a way to make them useful, even in inconvenient situations, but they're usually a pretty dang handy thing to have around. I also adore Lineman's pliers and, while most of you probably already know what that means, a great number of people don't have a clue.
The head welder at work loves his hammer. 30 years ago he bought it at a yard sale on a whim and it has been on his table ever since. I did some googling and found that he's got an upholsterer's tack hammer. Looks a little bit like a small riveting hammer, but instead of a cross-peen it has a somewhat forked end which used to be magnetized.
You?
