The seller, a very nice man, had it for sale for $50. I'm no fool so I gave him his asking price and he gave me $10 back since a few of the drawers were a little rusty and needed fresh paint. He told me he expected to be talked down anyway. :shocking:

I picked this up last weekend for $40. Guy had owned it for about fifty years.

Congrats! Great deal! That deserves a YOU ****!

I started on the slippery slope of vintage tools & toolboxes last year when I bought the same 12-drawer bottom with a 12-drawer top box. Set me back $100 but every drawer was full of tools. ;-)

Gee, thanks a lot, Lookin'. Now you've made me and every other person who reads this thread go and comb through Craigslist, Offerup, Freecycle, and other sites for a similar amazing bargain on tool chests we don't need. You really do ****.

Of course, we'd be doing that anyway....so congrats on a great find.

Hi everyone.

First time poster from the UK here. I bought this lovely little Beach 3 drawer on eBay for £50. I already love it to bits - its not huge but it has amazing build quality and this one spent its life in a shed having very little use. Its cleaned up a treat and after a good lube the drawers are silky smooth. I want a middle drawer unit and roll cab to go with it now!

I've got the lock but no key, is it easier to obtain a new lock or try to get a replacement key?

Hi, Wevad.
This is a nice box. I do not know this brand.
If they are rare and collectible, try to obtain a proper used key from e-bay or other site. A knowledgeable locksmith can easily swap cylinder pins to match existing key profile

I did a Google search and indeed they made some nice boxes. It would seem there are some for sale on alibaba, but look kind of chinesy. No longer made in canada.

My newest toolbox. All the way from Germany. The car has Bosch spark plugs. Does that make it okay?.

I can see that you're quickly running out of space for your growing tool box collection. I'll do you a favor and take that fastback off your hands to free up some extra room. :)

Beach is a nice Canadian company, made great boxes.

I'm SURE Beach boxes have been discussed on this site. They made many very nice boxes for a long time.

Lots of Beach boxes have been posted in this thread!

I’ll trade you this slightly smaller version for the Alemite.

By the way, I’m keeping my eye on that roller I told you about. I don’t need it or have the room, but if I can get it cheap enough, it may become a project.

Wevad: i have a similar Beach box with a few more drawers than yours and I have to say it's built maybe as well as any that I own. here's a picture of mine.

Welcome to Garage Journal and hope you find a lock or maybe any lock might work, but i've got my Beach up high on a shelf in my storage unit at the moment so not easy to check it out.

cheers

This belongs to a co-worker who is interested in learning more about this box. It belonged to his grandfather. Guerstner or Union? Something else? What era is it from?

Manufacturer name might be engraved on the center lock. Measurements of the box will help in identification. I think, based on corner hardware, this may be either a Schartow Iron, or National Tool box. If that is correct, it would be somewhere in the late 30s to mid 50s. I might be wrong, as I don't have experience with these brands. Have 4 Gerstner’s and a Union made Craftsman. Good luck.

Riley: that is a nice looking box and whatever brand it is it's a KEEPER especially if your friend had it passed down from a family member.

ALL: I picked up another old wood machinist box and not sure it's a Gertsner, but instead of most likely damaging it more trying to save it or having to build a new frame for it I passed in on to more capable hands and he's confident he can restore it to it's past beauty.

I also picked up this old hand carry tool box and the seller's widow mentioned it was her husbands when he was in the Navy so maybe that's a clue to other ones i've seen here. I'd bet I could put 200 pounds in it if I wanted to and it would still be able to be carried by the handle.

Got a little brother for my KR-56
I think it's KRA 58 B made between 1962 to 1971. For some reason can not find a stamp on it.
If somebody has the same box, where do you have the stamp with the model and the age?

Back of the box, center bottom area. It's there. It may be hard to see with the paint but take a flashlight and change the lighting angles. You'll see it.

The locking hardware says "Excelsior Stamford", which I assume to be the lock manufacturer. Unfortunately the from cover is missing. The felt is green if that helps.

Thanks for the website link. Unfortunately, I can't access the site on my phone's browser.

Thank you, thehorse13.

Looked at the back really carefully and finally found it - it was in right lower corner (need to clean the box...)
Confirmed KRA58B. 1963

Interesting on my KR-56 the stamp is deeper and on left side of the box (left lower corner)

Glad somebody on here snagged that, looked like it is in nice shape, and a "you ****" at $25.
