Concrete Crack Repair - Settled Crack (PICS)

Guys, I've got a house built in 1980. The garage has a number of cracks that should be straightforward to fix. However, there is 1 large crack that is raised approx 1/4"-1/2". It cracked, then the floor settled. It's... geez, 5-6 feet long. Maybe longer.

How should I repair this? Grind down the high side with an angle grinder then patch... I have no idea. Could you guys suggest a product for patching?

I'm going to be coating with Rustoleum Pro Epoxy.

If you are using Rustoleum, then ask their tech's. I would think they would be the logical first point of contact.

Grind it flat if you want, don't have to.

Clean the crack out and fill it with sealer PL 80 I think is what I used. Lowe's, black and green tube in the caulk isle. Self leveling stuff. ~$7 a tube that goes in teh caulk gun.

Anyone else have a suggestion? Or maybe had similar cracks to contend with?

What did you end up doing about these cracks? My garage has some similar-looking ones.

I ended up doing what I suggested in the original post. I could not find the stuff Nate suggested. I bought a 4.5" angle grinder and two masonry wheels. I used up those two wheels on that settled crack plus a couple others. I ended up grinding about 10 linear feet worth of crack. As you can see in the picture, it's deviated about 1/2". I got it down to a bit more than 1/8" difference. Took maybe 3 hrs.

Then I patched it with Rustoleum's Epoxy patch. I did the best I could with the patch, but I SHOULD have gone back and ground it smooth. So, while I don't have a giant crack in the floor, it is 100% obvious that the spot was cracked. I probably also should have applied the epoxy patch in two layers instead of one; I was running out of time and cut corners.

So - Grind. Patch. Grind smooth. Oh, and get a ventilator or minimum a dust mask. Grinding concrete stinks.

Thanks for the reply! Did you end up ever laying down an epoxy floor treatment on the garage, or is it "just" concrete?

if you can grind it internally to be an wider at bottom then top like bottom of hour glass you can put in hydraulic cement it will never come out and you can grind it. very cheap at lowes or home despot buy the big tub it is only like 80cents more and has twice as much save it for further use. inside are two bags of it so it will be sealed

How would you make it wider at the bottom without making it larger at the surface??

I also have the same cracks as the op and never did anything with the floor because of it.

Just thought no matter what I did with the cracks that they would still be able to see that they were there.

#9 - Yeah, I epoxied the **** out of the floor. Looks decent. I made some other mistakes in application... but that's another thread.

rikmeister - That is an option. But it takes 28 days before you can epoxy over it. Using the epoxy patch you can coat after 24 hours.

35mastr - If I can remember, I'll take some pics. Like I mentioned, I didn't grind over my patch jobs and that was a mistake. However, I do have spots where the patch was thin enough and the epoxy was thick enough that the crack disappeared. If I had put more than 24 hours into my patching job, I think the floor would have come out flawlessly.
