Because it's not "their own deal" - HD online and the HD stores are two separate businesses, essentially competitors.

Most stores with B&M locations and websites set it up that way. Read the Sears thread for complaints about this.

So Home Depot and HomeDepot.com are two different companies? I've never heard of such a thing. I understand not matching another store's price, but I've always had Lowes and Ace match their own online prices. Hell, I've even had Sears match their online price several times when I was buying 19.2V tools.

That's a sure fire way to tick off their customers and lose them at the same time.

yep. but it is stupid. they should be offering free pick up at store to try and get you in there to buy something else while you are there.

and, of course, the whole buy online and pick up in the store screws over the argument in the first place, because they are often taking store stock for you to pick up, so they are related in some intimate manner.

Not 100%, but I think it has to do with the physical location of the website or headquarters that manages it. Inventory also plays a role, and for accounting purposes I think they sort of have to. I worked at Best Buy and it's the same thing, along with Target.

Most will match their own sites, but not always. And the ones that say they don't, Sears & HD, will often end up matching if you talk to the right person (sometimes on the right day too). They are ones that realize the silliness in the situation. I find it particular frustrating at Sears, when they only have 1 on the shelf, so you can't buy online for that price, but I now know who to ask for the PM ;)

Lowes will not do this any more either. I picked up a couple work lights around xmas time that I had seen on sale online. Went to the store and price was $5 higher so I took them to customer service counter and they wouldnt price match. So I left set there and went and set on the bench in the customer service area and ordered them online and waited 15 minutes for the order to show up... Its ridiculous in my opinion.

Thank you. I got the mid torque and fuel circular saw for $418. Seems like a great deal.

Our store will still price match themselves as long as it isn't a clearance price, which are store specific. They'll match sales prices all day long, all 3 of the closest stores.

So Home Depot and HomeDepot.com are two different companies?

That's correct, just like Lowes.com and Lowes stores are different companies, Sears.com and Sears are different companies, Walmart.com and Walmart are different companies, etc.

It's largely for legal, logistics, and accounting reasons, but they are separate stores. That's one reason store stock and online stock can vary, especially at Sears. When you order online for in-store pickup, for Sears the store sells the item to online, and the online store sells the item to you. Sometimes the stores don't want to sell for whatever reason, so Sears.com ships an item that was in-stock at your local store.

[quote I understand not matching another store's price, but I've always had Lowes and Ace match their own online prices. Hell, I've even had Sears match their online price several times when I was buying 19.2V tools.[/quote]

Price matching is an unrelated issue. Some stores will match online, some will not. HD generally will not match online pricing in their stores, even HD onine pricing. For that matter it's usually difficult to get HD online to match any pricing. If you got Sears to match online pricing, you got an exception to their policy, they are not supposed to PM online.

Interesting thought, but the studies I have seen don't support that theory. In any event, that's something their business strategists would have to figure out for them.

They are not taking store stock but rather are selling store stock, in some cases, to online who then sells it to you. I'n not sure there are ANY vendors who have online and B&M stores that do it differently, I have not encountered any. Usually it's transparent to the customer and the customer is unaware, as many have commented here.

but that conflicts with the whole idea of a "loss leader", which has been a bedrock concept of marketing since [insert diety here] was a puppy . . . .

while correct, it is completely an accounting thing. they have decided, for whatever reason, to do it this way. the end result, though, is that they make me wait while their online system processes an order for an item i am otherwise holding in my hand.

it is short-sighted. telling a customer no is a horrible idea. telling them they can get what they want by jumping through hoops is worse. telling me to pull out my phone, place an order online, and wait 20 minutes for their back end to get the order to the counter in the store is not helpful. they are driving me towards online shopping, which can't be helpful to maintain their local stores.

the local bank branch in town understands this. go in to make a deposit, and they will fill everything out for you, and offer you a lolly pop, and a doggy treat to take home to the dog. they understand that if their foot traffic drops down too much, the bank might close the branch, which has happened to two nearby branches of other banks already.

they need to play off their strengths. some stores understand this. a lot do not. look at sears. they used to have a big catalog business, which is old school online shopping. now they can't get people to come to the stores, and from talking to the order pickup guys at the local store, even that is drying up.

[set(rant,off)]

anyway, i like the inflator. it is about the size i expected. setting the pressure is cool. need to figure out if i can rig something up so i can use it to release the locks on the auto lift. if i can get that working, once i get the M12 cutoff tool, i won't need a compressor in the shop, since those are the last things i use it for.

Is there a place I can get an m12 fuel drill and battery for about a hundred bucks? I see non fuel versions with three batteries all over the place, it seems. This will be in workshop for wood working duties so don't need a bag full of batteries.

100$:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauk...Kit-With-Free-PACKOUT-Case-2404-21P/301999123

will ship to you for free if they dont have any local (they dont for me)

even comes with one of those fancy packout 1/2 size cases, which should be good for keeping sawdust out of it when you are not using it.

Or if you want both the Gen2 impact & drill, 4ah& 2ah batteries, bag for 138, go in store and buy the Gen 2 Fuel set & 6ah battery. The kit will ring up for ~$137.50, the battery $62.**. Do what you please with the 6ah.

And if are near a Menards, you will get 11% back as well.

You are a good man. I do have 2 Menards near by. Do they honor the 11 percent even though Menards didn't carry red?

Hey 2 many,

I'm curious how to get this deal - I don't think a single home depot in my state stocks a 6ah battery. I looked in s 20+ mile range. is there a code to make this work online?

You can get the deal online, but you cant split the battery out of the deal,so you will spend $200. That's why I typed out exactly what happen in store.

Go in store and check on the battery. Worst case, find a super friendly manager and have them ring the package out with the battery sky, and immediately return it. Tell them you need the kit asap, but want the deal

Buy 2598-22 (Gen2 fuel kit) & 48-11-2460 (6ah battery). The $90 battery cost will be deducted proportionally between the 2 items. do what you want with the battery, keep or return. Only in store.

I have the same issues, no 6.0’s near where I live. The package that includes the two part numbers above is $229 online

Sorry to hear, but that seems strange. Do they only sell the XC (3.0) pack? Stores clearanced the 4.0's to switch to the 6's. It is hard for me to believe that HD would leave that sku out of your stores.

wait a sec, are you just looking at the website for stock? It looks like they disabled giving you inventory on it, probably due to this promotion. It says you have to go to the store for it. Like I said, its an item I would be very surprised that a HD didn't carry it. OOS is another story, but you will have to call or go in to find out

Yes the website doesn't post stock. I went to local store and got my drills! I am so excited, I was able to get two combos because I wanted two drills-one for drilling and one for driving.

I'm going to Craigslist the impacts if anyone is interested in a non dickish deal.

Thank you everyone, the internet is a nicer place than people give credit for.

To the person who asked if they will honor the 11 percent if they don't carry it.. in my experience no. I went in to get a fuel ratchet... they didn't have it in store so they did an online order and wouldn't match because it wasn't in store. After several emails and chats online, still no match. You might have different luck though

I’ll try going to the store. Any idea how long the promo lasts?

But they will on special order items. Examples doors, washer, dryer, fridge. I have order all and got the 11% on them.

i don't see what the difference is between special order and having the store place the order... generally a special order is something they wont carry either way.

either way, glad you got something out of them!
