One of the hack saw is Millers Falls No.6 and the other is Bell System No.70 Whale.
:shocking:
Does the whale logo look like this one?! If so, please post a photo either here or in the Bell System thread, which is on page 1 right now.

What is the make of the vise-grips near the farm wrenches and spud wrench? BMC?

Were they used as real anvils for small stuff like jewelry, or just made as paperweights/collectibles?

Either way, you tiny anvil owners should share in the tiny tools thread!
My Mother made jewelry as a hobby back when I was little.
She had one of those baby anvils and she used it.
I may still have it, I do have one or two here, but don't know if it was a flea market/garage sale fine, or her old one.
She was a nice lady. Miss her every day.:(

Hello to all,
I recently acquired a Rockwell 10 X 36 metal lathe.
Got it all cleaned up and replaced some parts. I still
need the bronze gear for cross feed, and maybe a Back Gear.
The lathe is pretty tight, and I can't wait to make some chips.
This is my 6th lathe and it will help to keep me sane. If anyone
knows how to get these parts I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

I'm ashamed to say that at 32 I would use this feature way too often.

I just spent a good quarter of an hour looking for a clamp on desk lamp in the shop. Still no clue where it is.

Finally gave up and found my trouble light instead, stupid thing didn't have a bulb in. :lol_hitti
You're as Bad as Me.
Bolted a piece of steel to my Frame to beef up my trailer hitch yesterday, wanted to tack weld it too, But my DeWalt grinder wasn't where it was supposed to be.Can't find nothing in my place right now.

So first time out in a while and stopped by a moving sale. After looking around with no luck I spotted these and many more mostly farm implement wrenches stuffed in two boxes in corner of garage which were not in the sale. I asked the lady if she would be willing to sell the boxes of tools in garage. She said her husband wasn't home but she was not wanting to move them again as her husband was unable to. She took $40 for both boxes. Too much to list
A steal.

It is that exact one Lugz except it is a No.70 instead of 80. Not at home atm so will post pics later. I am just a pup in the tool game and have no knowledge of these so just a little info would be great. And I will try to post more often but mainly just been reading and learning since joining from all of you knowledgeable gentlemen.
As for the vise grips, if you are talking about the tool in lower right hand I believe it is BMC but more of an adjustable jaw wrench than vise grip I would say if I remember right. I have been sorting through the two boxes and have probably another table full of stuff that I didn't post and a lot of it I have no knowledge on.

Does it take a lantern battery?
wonder if you could adapt a 12V drill battery to it?
Yes, it takes one or two lantern batteries (they are connected in parallel). I was pleasantly surprised that you can still find them for cheap at Wally World.

Haven't tried adapting a power tool battery.

Been shopping again. Came across a 13" LeBlond Regal for $200. And it works. First problem though is that I don't have 3 phase in my shop, but a VFD will take care of that. And there's a couple of issues with gear change that will initially limit my range of thread cutting, though not feed speeds. But for the money I am in good shape even if I part it out. Don't really want to do that though. Oh and it came with a 6 jaw chuck in pretty fair condition. Pictures later.

Small pickup on the way to a bid tonight, guy wanted $40, I told him I’d give him $20 for the grinder without the stand, then he couldn’t get the stand off so sold me the whole kit for $20, I’m not sure that’s too great of deal, but I’m happy with it. Made in China

We hit an estate sale in Alameda today. It was heavy on the Craftsman =v= tools which is okay with me since they seem to have some value. The first shot is everything followed by the Craftsman set. Next is the =v= DOE set and the =v= socket sizes. My wife found a set of Barcalo Buffalo DBE wrenches and a small Plomb 8 point socket. The hammers are Champion deArment (Channellock) and a Williams plastic tip #150.

Had a decent week. I may break this up into multiple posts so if I bore anybody or break any rules please let me know.

I picked up a Kennedy two box stack with tools for $200. Missing one drawer but in decent shape. After reselling it for the same price with various tools I didn't want or need, I was able to keep a nice lot of tooling (everything in the pictures aside from the box).

On the way to my mother in law's house to check on some things, I spied an interesting looking trash pile and decided to investigate. I found a nice pile of items, hardware, tools, etc. ranging from roached to NOS. Not everything is pictured but aside from the that I got about 45lbs of brass, 25lbs of lead (not counting the lead shot), and 20lbs of aluminum along with a bunch of other neat stuff.

I passed by the same house a couple of days later going back to my mother in law's house, and I asked a gentleman outside if they were getting rid of anything else and he told me they were having an estate sale over the weekend. It started today, and numbers went out at 3:30. As I'd worked most of the weekend I cut out early from work and got there about 3. I was #35 in line...by the time they were getting ready to open the doors there were about 150 people there...crazy. Luckily most people were there for items inside or fishing tackle. I did miss out on a nice backpacking stove which was my primary goal but c'est la vie. I could have actually nudged a guy out of the way to get it, but he was mumbling over another item for about 30 seconds before he grabbed it as well. I'm just not that kind of guy, but in hindsight I should have gone around the back of the table and grabbed it. Lesson learned. Regardless, I was able to get some nice items fro $50 on the first day of an estate sale which is rare around here.

NOS Craftsman 315.25840 hand grinder
Craftsman flying v and RHFT 1/4" ratchets
NOS Coleman aftermarket CO2 fuel pumps
NOS Coleman stoke propane conversion kit
NOS SVEA 123 camping stove
Hults Bruks double bit axe head
Ampco W141R Non sparking 1/2" ratchet
2 Coleman funnels
HOMS Counter
Small brass hammer
Few other smalls and hardware

Finally, two weeks ago I won a Delta Rockwell 15" drill press and random import drill press at the state auction fro $60. The DR isn't the prettiest but runs well, the table is in great condition, and only needed a return spring. The import turned out to be non-operable for a number of reasons but the return spring and housing were a compatible donor...so I'll take it.

On the way home from picking up the drill presses last week, I saw a pretty neat (but flooded and roached) King Motor Tester on the side of the road less than a block off of I-10. I love junk, but man junk seems to find me. It was obviously abandoned but I'm always weary of picking up things like that. I waited eight hours and went back to see if it was still there, and sure enough it was. So in the truck it went.

In the middle of the red tote top is a Starrett hook rule. That is one of the most used tools used in my shop (cabinetmaker).

You'll learn to love it. If you don't, let me know!

Awesome finds guys! Nothing good around here but I haven't had a chance to make it to any sales in a while. Nothing looks enticing and I've been too busy.

Nice finds Merc! What was the backpacking stove that you missed? I got an Optimus for $5 a couple years ago and I have had a Coleman Peak1 since my BSA days.

Lots of guys killing it and it's not even regular season yet!

I love junk, but man junk seems to find me.
New 2018 Garage Sale thread motto of the week right there. :)

I had a decent selective day at the Early Bird with some interesting pieces.

View media item 83376
The toy cannon, possibly 18th century, was an on-spec purchase for the Artillery Museum at Ft Sill, Oklahoma. (I am staked for the whole year in advance.)

The combination cut tin snips are Long C Craftsman.

The 1/2-inch square drive sliding tee is something I don't remember seeing before. Female drive. Maybe it's just a blind spot.

Can't wait to post more photos of the DBE wrench set in BlueBomber's thread. European. But vintage. And very well-made.

The railroader's alligator wrench is a Bonney.

The center gage is B&S and the pitch gage is L.S. Starrett.

I have no idea on the clamp, but it was too cool to leave behind and I can even see it coming in handy for something. It looks like it's made to be set screwed on a rod or pipe, and the pinch clamp looks like it's made to hold the same shape. The clamp is also removable from the screw part with a thumbscrew. Welding? Soldering? Something in that area I think.

All that my first flea stop. I was going to skip my second flea stop, which is about a 30 minute drive, because I have to run CINCHOUSE and dear daughters up to the airport (me and the boys will be batching it for a week!). Glad I didn't. Found that Bell System B belt kit there. Brass clip on the back. Everything, including the special shears inside, also marked Bell System B, is in mint condition. It's 60+ years old!

Lugz, I think the clamp is for holding lab equipment. Think test tubes and bunsen burners.

Oh, and the Bell system shears are called snips in the trade, there should be two notches on the side to strip 22 and 24 gauge wire.

No stripping notches, and these have blades more like shears, with serrations on the back edge. Those could be used for stripping I suppose. I thought it was strange myself, they literally look more like miniature shears. Check out the Bell System thread later - I will post photos. Maybe you (and Jeff Moss or others in the trade) can better identify their purpose.

I agree, it probably came out of a high school chemistry lab somewhere.
If it did come out of a HS, it came out of it in the 30's, 40's or 50's! This things looks old, gents. It's finished in baked black enamel and the fittings are brass. I can totally see that application, though, now that you guys mention it. I will post more pics later.

We need to hear more about this museum cannon find.
Hahahaha. I thought that would get someone's attention. There's not much to tell. A lurker who saw that I run into some good stuff from time to time (including a few miniatures howitzers I posted last year) contacted me, asking if I would be willing to do some buying for him. He sent me an advance and some basic guidance about what he was looking for and photos of what they already have in their toy section. So I guess I'm a professional picker now.

Stumbled upon a Shop sale, a block from my house this morning. I have known of this cool hot rod and car/motorcycle shop behind the house for years. I was excited to go in and see what might be inside. Well, there were tons of motors, heads, transmissions, intakes, ect... but the tools were all taken by the man's sons. however, I did get some neat stuff. I got a pair of ramps, they will come in handy loading mowers and such into my pickup. Two file cabinets for storage, ones small , the other (the red one) is large and very heavy. Deep drawers that have dividers and are easily removable. A few wall signs, Ford , Model A, and another old car sign. A can of Bunjis, a hand brush, 5 cans of Gulf Valvetop Oil all unopened. a Maglight LED flashlight, and a can of Shoestring potato sticks at the store on the way home! Made a pile and ended p with $40 even. I was happy with my haul.

Also this Craftsman and Plomb pry bars came in the mail today. I had forgotten I bid them on the bay! surprise!
