Stopped at sale today on way to the hardware store, but no joy. SWMBO and I have an estated sale staked out on Sunday in nearby Tewksbury--looks like some good stuff!

Here are some photos of the toy field cannon. The carriage, hint of a trail, and trunnion are wood. The axle, wheels, and cannon itself appear to wrought iron. It's not a replica. The vent is way too far up, and the muzzle has no swell, but the large round cascable and the carriage and wheels and overall appearance, including the use of crude brass tacks, meant to look like cross bolts in the carriage, are very appealing. The curator thinks it could be 18th century.

Here are some photos of that clamp. The thumbscrew in the middle allows you to extend the length of it and tighten it into place in multiple positions - I am showing it all the way in and all the way out. The set screw on the back allows you to attach it to an upright rod, which puts the squeeze clamp into a vertical position, perhaps for beakers or tubes as you guys suspected.

I passed by the same house a couple of days later going back to my mother in law's house, and I asked a gentleman outside if they were getting rid of anything else and he told me they were having an estate sale over the weekend. It started today, and numbers went out at 3:30. As I'd worked most of the weekend I cut out early from work and got there about 3. I was #35 in line...by the time they were getting ready to open the doors there were about 150 people there...crazy. Luckily most people were there for items inside or fishing tackle. I did miss out on a nice backpacking stove which was my primary goal but c'est la vie. I could have actually nudged a guy out of the way to get it, but he was mumbling over another item for about 30 seconds before he grabbed it as well. I'm just not that kind of guy, but in hindsight I should have gone around the back of the table and grabbed it. Lesson learned. Regardless, I was able to get some nice items fro $50 on the first day of an estate sale which is rare around here.

Finally, two weeks ago I won a Delta Rockwell 15" drill press and random import drill press at the state auction fro $60. The DR isn't the prettiest but runs well, the table is in great condition, and only needed a return spring. The import turned out to be non-operable for a number of reasons but the return spring and housing were a compatible donor...so I'll take it.

On the way home from picking up the drill presses last week, I saw a pretty neat (but flooded and roached) King Motor Tester on the side of the road less than a block off of I-10. I love junk, but man junk seems to find me. It was obviously abandoned but I'm always weary of picking up things like that. I waited eight hours and went back to see if it was still there, and sure enough it was. So in the truck it went.

Ooh, I like that Crown logo Craftsman hand grinder! And that red Craftsman ratchet screwdriver is cool too, has a Snap On look to it. I haven't seen that one before.

These old 1/2" hex-drive sockets caught my eye - for a buck I couldn't say no. The design with tapers and knurling made me think old S-K or Indestro, but alas, no trademarks. The size marking is flanked by two punch marks, if that's a clue. Taking a closer look with a 10x loupe, the punch marks are hexagonal. Broken set, 15/16, 7/8, 3/4 and 9/16. Dunno if the hairpin like thingy is original, but if not it'll serve as a hitch pin clip on my trailer.

Slipped out for an estate sale this am.

Not much but the Mini Keg supersized me when I looked it up on Eprey! same can without the Brewery ad was $122 new! I spend $5 on everything!

I was thinking i could do something with it for camping or maybe use it as a white gas lantern fount, for a franken lantern. It's 2X the capacity of a larger 2 mantle's capacity...

That included the rwo small brass valves, and the other item that was cool was an old Carter Carburetor parts box, with the needle valve assy still inside it!

The BOX is made of wood! How cool is that? I'm thinking maybe teens or twenties?

In the middle of the red tote top is a Starrett hook rule. That is one of the most used tools used in my shop (cabinetmaker).

Nice finds Merc! What was the backpacking stove that you missed? I got an Optimus for $5 a couple years ago and I have had a Coleman Peak1 since my BSA days.

I've a Peak 1 out in the garage and it's just waiting for my son's first overnight. The stove was an Optimus 8R, new in box, for $6. I should have been a little more nimble and grabbed it, but I still did well enough. Hell, I don't believe that for a second and I'm bitter about it I like the guy that got it...he's a big Coleman / camp type item collector and usually gets to this kind of sale 4-5 hours early and "camps" out. I had grabbed all of the CO2 fuel pump adapters and I threw one his way...he sincerely thanked me, but still wasn't about to give up the Optimus. Can't blame him. No worries though; I have a Russian clone of the 8R and it gets the job done when called upon.

Can't wait to post more photos of the DBE wrench set in BlueBomber's thread. European. But vintage. And very well-made.

King Motor Tester that’s pretty cool.

I wish I had the room for it...it's currently sitting in another gentleman's shop and he has big plans for it, including enhanced lighting and making a functional front door to the cabinet...as originally the only access to the internal shelves was in the rear.

Ooh, I like that Crown logo Craftsman hand grinder! And that red Craftsman ratchet screwdriver is cool too, has a Snap On look to it. I haven't seen that one before.

Always open to trades if you head down this way at any point. Pretty sure everything is there; I plugged it in briefly just to ensure that it works and it does. The top of the box has some paint loss due to something dripping on it but otherwise things are pretty cherry.

That Craftsman deadblow hammer looks like-new. It's a current-production model, made by Nupla, which I'm guessing is the 1lb size (there's a 1lb, a 2lb, and a 3lb). Its regular price (rarely on sale at all) is $26.99 - more than you paid for your whole pile.

Yes, it’s a clue: I would say those are SK. But I don’t recall looking at those marks under magnification, or noticing them being hex punched. Indestro would be 5-sided stars, so I doubt a hex as a replacement, but they also made them with no punch marks, so who knows? I’m away this weekend, but I’ll check my oldest S-K when I get back.

Got a few cool things at an unexpected stop yesterday. A bunch of black hawk wrenches, a little proto dbe, a proto Allen key set in a pouch, a proto la 3/8" universal, ceetee pliers, a plomb 3/8" sliding t, a big p&c chisel, "hold-e-zee" screwdriver, and an old box of shraeder valve caps. Nothing earth shattering, but a nice surprise on my way to work.

I went to Hartville flea market, not a good day. Too hot then rained out. Found a couple things, though.

3x Felco pruning shears, used (one of them is covered in pipe wrench "bites" lmao). Already gave 1 to mom. Recently resharpened.

Warner-Swasey Turret Lathes Cleveland, Ohio marked HSS tool cutter gage for lathes. Pretty neat.

Not a bad day for a dreary cold day, (skirting rain...) and a 3 day holiday weekend to boot!

A first stop got a CD case for SWMBO and the car, A quick window lock clamp, and a Snowman Xmas stocking hook (latter tww not pictured, forgot one, stashed the other as an Xmas Gift... the CD case is in in a later pic) two bucks all.

Big score was the second stop Almost 90 tools (quick count) and many top brands! $15 all!

For the sockets The Big stuff in the back ia mostly Proto, a couple of Williams, Some Plvmb, samller Proto, Snap-On (9) a mix of Pennens, Fleet, and Challenger (At lest two of the Penenns are also marked Challenger... 14 all told), that are all clearly the same other than stampings; Craftsman (7), Herbrand Armstrong, Penncraft, New Brittian... The Ratceht is P&C, the bar is Blackhawk

Also came with this Box, and 1/4" socket tray, Cornwell and Craftsman Conbos, Willimas and Craftsman Ignition wrenches, Craftsman chisel, small oils can and some snap off blades. (didn't know you could replace those type blades!)

Got a mixed bag with a Craftsman Tool bag, (looks never to have been used), two LED head Lights (Didn't realize there were two til I got home!) Quart of Anti Freeze, restore a finish, an Eklund Allen key set, and a Pewter Deer and Rabbit; eight bucks And there is the CD case mentioned earlier.

Here is the Canvas and leather bag. Sucker is big, about 20 inches long. It has outside pocket son both sides as we as inside pockets.

Some other stops: a two record set of Bing and the Andrew sisters Christmas songs. Extended play so 2 songs per side. - A buck. Leather covered notebook, cents 50. The half can of Acetone, forceps and the myths book were a buck at an estate sale.

All in all not bad day! Spent more on tools than non-tool items, so that is a step in the right direction!

Today was the first day that it felt like flea market season here in NJ. It was crowded, guys came in their rides, including this very tasteful rat rod truck (see thumbnail 1), the Laughing Gulls were out in flock force waiting for handouts (see thumbnail 2), and the sellers were practically giving stuff away.

I've been looking for another older primitive wood toolbox for some of my older wrenches. The guy wanted to sell it as is, with the stuff, and I was prepared to walk away, but his price was ridiculous. I don't think he even knew what was in it. I'll go through that in the next post.

Same deal with the socket set, which had a complete chrome SK set in it that I will be getting rid of. I only wanted a few buried treasures. Next post.

The screwdriver with the brass body is spiraling, but very unusual. I am going to post more on the recently started spiraling screwdriver thread.

Here's the box. Homemade. Fancy but sturdy (reinforced) carry handle. Had a provision for a lock at one time that is now welded closed. Basic removable tray. Kind of a simple ho-hum box but I like it.

Here's some of the more interesting contents. I probably won't be keeping any of it except the 8" J.P. Danielson slip-joints with herringbone grips. The WYPO burner tip cleaner set is nifty. The green three-square rule that goes in that tube is an aluminum Keuffel & Esser! Complete General radius gage set. A little angle gage. And that wood box has a complete set of Craftsman (geometric logo) adjustable parallels inside Size A through Size F.

Went to one estate sale today. Turned out I was the first guy there. Two ladies beat me in the garage but they were hot on the glassware and kitchen gadgets.

There was a “free” table as well with misc. items. I found a few things on there. I think half the stuff I brought home was free.

- a few Crescent including a 4”

- Japanese slide adjust Quali Kraft wrench. I passed these over for years but finally gave in and bought a nice cheap but dirty one!

- The real highlight, a 4” adjustable branded CROSS. Never seen the brand before. I have have heard of Cross Country. Too bad it’s not in better shape, but appears to have possibly been made by Utica as Ganymede pointed out earlier in the thread I started.

Anyhow, it was the first thing I saw under the other wrenches as I headed over to the work bench. Thought it was a Plomb or Walden sticking out, but that’s what it turned out to be. Pretty neat.

I thought so too! the biggest is 1" drive and Proto, the 2nd biggest is Williams and 3/4" drive. The others are all 1/2" drive, and all but 1 Proto, the last one is Williams.

I like the white paint in the lettering! It makes it EASY to read what size they are! I need to find an easy way to do this... I wonder if orange or red would contrast well on chrome sockets?

Im no AVE but I did this with the ratchets I keep at work for ID...im not a big fan of engraving but I did the face plate on the Snappy. They are all done with green paint marker minimum the head, the Protos have it in the text also. The Armstrong would only accept it on the head, but there is a green dot on end of joint screw. Both Proto have a turning center in the handle end, green dot there too. I won't put it anywhere else on the Snappy bc text in grip area, not trying to get green fingers.

Looks like a swaging tool for copper. Bang it into the end of the pipe to flare it out instead of using a coupling.
