Added to my Ego collection. 1 I just wanted an extra battery for blower, but i was also sick of piddle-dicking around with my old craftsman 2 stroke trimmer. No more gas mix, no more staybihl, no more winterizing it.
@$150 i didnt think it was a bad deal. Plus Homedepot does match Menards 11% rebate, so that helped.

Had to say goodbye to my Smith's 1/2 HP compressor tank today. Has a crack underneath. I bought this compressor in the early 1980's. All cast iron pump.

I disassembled it completely and brought the tank outside to cut off the top mounting plate. Next I reassembled a portion of it to keep things together.

The plan is to remotely mount it and run a line to one of the HF portable air tanks.

Cut and bent some transmission line and made a flare to get rid of about 5 inches of rubber hose I had as a temporary fix for the last 3 years LOL. Car is much happier now!

Finished the refurb of a display cabinet from the 30's.
Joint project, helped my wife.
Interesting mortise and tenon construction. Glass was abismal but, cleaned up better than new glass.

I poked a hole in some sheet rock in my garage moving around my gladiator racks and it finally annoyed between that and constantly fighting for space so for now I put them on my covered back patio and I think I am just going to get some of the dark mosquito netting and build a privacy barrier around it so no one will object to my collection until i finish a couple projects and can start reducing the clutter. Also going to take some of that same mosquito netting and make my own version of one of those garage screen doors.

I'm curious to know, if anyone can give me an idea, my garage is a typical two car garage, so not huge. Probably 20 x 20 or a little less depth. I climbed into the attic for the first time today and noticed that the builder did not put any insulation over the garage and I can understand its probably normal not to but I did kind of request them to do it but I did not get it in writing so I am probably going to have to do it on my dime if I want it. I have designs of being able to put the radiant blockers on the garage door and then place a window unit in my side window for Summer time cooling. The rest of the house has the blown in insulation, has anyone had this done recently and gotten a quote for how much it costs?

Finished up this table for the grand-kids. I copied a Pottery Barn's 'large play table' and made it a little longer (5') to fit a particular location. I have always wanted to try spraying General Finishes Milk Paint and finally got a chance. I then finished it off with their High-Performance Poly as a top coat. I was pleased with the way it turned out but time will tell once the kids get a hold of it

started blasting my newly found K5 top last night. Trying to make up my mind to color match it to the paint or the traditional black top. The body color on my K5 is going to be Silver Upol (Raptor) liner. Not sure which will look better overall though....

Cut the weld on a tractor steering cylinder and took it apart to put the bolt back in the rod with some green loctite and welded it back together. Sorry no pics. (I wish I had taken some though)

This falls under not really in the garage because it won't fit, but it is with in 5' of the garage and piece by piece it is getting the the garage :lol_hitti. But I picked up a 1977 Argosy by Airstream that I hoped would only need a water line repair under the sink. I purchase it with a hope for the best plan for the worst attitude and it's not the best but it's not the worst either. The damaged water line repair, turned into a complete water line replacement, into a remove half of the interior to repair rotted floor. :shocking:

Thanks. Here is an exterior picture. When I started to pull out the cabinets and closets I found an item form a previous owner that inspired the new name for the Argosy... THE LOVE SHACK.

I think they always look better color match IMHO.

I made awning mounts for the side of my small trailer, getting tired of moving the awning every time I want to close the trailer door .

Every muscle in my body is sore but completed the installation, sanding and finishing the wood floor in my woodworking shop.

I mixed in some blue pine etc to give it a little more rustic/warehouse look since the rest of the walls will be regular v groove yellow pine siding and will take awhile to age.

I spent a little time online last night looking at some color matched tops and they did look nice but I noticed most all of them had a very smooth finish, and to be honest I am not interested in smoothing it down, so I hope it looks good rough and color matched, lol. If not then I figure it will only take a couple bottles to turn it back to black!!! :shocking:

Put away some more Harbor Freight buys, and I took the carb off my mom's lawn mower and cleaned it up. Got the mower going again...

Replaced the solar powered LED light over the man door entrance to the shop and hung up one more sign inside. Then went back in to cool off. It was too blasted hot and humid to do much more.

I spent a few hours stripping the paint off of a Sterling drill bit grinder base. I had hoped to take the base off of the unit, but this has become a much bigger problem than I want to deal with. There will little or no advantage for a better finish.
I used gun-wash poured onto shop cloths which I fastened to the areas to have paint removed. I stiff stainless wire brush cleared the raised letters on the base, easily.
I decided against media blasting because the abrasive gets into everything.

Pictures tomorrow.

I prefer color matched. My first vehicle was a 1979 GMC Jimmy (Blazer equivalent) that I purchased wrecked when I was 15. When I painted it I went with the factory blue and white color with the top being the textured white. I rolled it about a year later and when I rebuilt it and repainted it, I changed the color a bit and sanded the top smooth and painted it one of the body colors. I liked it much better than the textured OEM finish/color.

I've seen them color matched in the textured finish... they look fine.

I'd go back with the white if it wasn't color matched.

I have an '88 k5. The A/c has it's work cut out for it under normal circumstances... I'd hate to have 75% of the cab in black to add to the load.

I fixed a connector on my riding lawnmower's electric PTO clutch. I like fixes that don't cost anything.

started to replace the water pump in my 67 vette, only to discover my radiator also has a leak.

Wife suggested using the "ultimate drain pan" so I didn't mess up my shop floor.

Moved some of my stuff around and found a motorcycle. Took it out for a ride and had breakfast with my son and my brother. Need to do that more often.

Our son's in-laws gave them a Craftsman powered lawnmower, B & S Gold Series 6.5 HP, big rear wheels, front powered mower, it wouldn't start after sitting in the in-law's garage for awhile. It looks like it was used a handful of times by the in-laws and left alone.

He'd tried disassembling the carb for a cleaning, but it still wouldn't run. He asked me to look at it, I said, "ask your 5 yr. old son to help," and told him to bring it over. After a day in the swimming pool (this is Florida) and lunch, we changed and went to the garage.

I stripped-down the carb and found the usual deposits in the float bowl, but no water. Also, when I put a bit of gas in the dry tank, it started peeing-out constantly, a stuck float, probably due to grit or gum.

Removing the float & float valve, I found the main jet totally-plugged with gum and used spray solvent and a fine drill bit to poke-out the deposits until shiny-clean. I used my compressor to blow out the gas supply passage in the carb body, and to ensure the make-up air passage wasn't gummed-shut. The gas venturi from the main jet was clean to the carb main passage.

It was nearly a 'no parts needed' repair other than it could use a new air filter, the old one was dirty-enough to see on the outside it was dirty, though the inside was still clean. The gasket from the air cleaner body to the carb flange needed to be replaced. I had swapped-in a used spark plug to see if it would spark, and when it did, I decided to try using that one, so in it went.

My grandson I showed how to use a ratcheting wrench and socket, and he already knows "righty-tighty, lefty-loosie," to-which he will usually remark, "righty-tighty, lefty-Lucy, Charlie Brown!" He first did that to me when I was showing him screws and nuts, and screwdriver tips when he was age four. I was wearing a 'Peanuts' t-shirt with Charlie and Lucy on it, and he made the joke when I quizzed him about, "now, which-way do you turn the screwdriver?" Man, I was astonished, and 'bout bust a gut, laughing.

Back to the lawnmower. All-assembled, out of the garage, one pull on the starter and it coughs, the second, it catches and quits, the third, and it starts-up and runs smoothly, a bit of smoke out the exhaust for several seconds, and that subsides, and it settles to a good speed. Success. Our son took it for a quick spin in the yard, all is good, and he's a happy camper. He was about to go buy an electric mower for his 1/3 acre urban plot, and fire the lawn service, now he doesn't have to spend anything but tune up parts: an air filter gasket, air filter, and a spark plug.

For being a good kid, helping with the parts cleaning, and tear-down/re-assembly, I gave my grandson a 4-in-1 screwdriver. He already knows the names of the interchangeable tips. Once I showed him how to safely remove and replace the bits, he ran-to his grandmother and showed her how to disassemble it, and how to put it together (grandma is an engineer who just retired after a 41 year career with the same employer).

A fun day in the garage, and the swimming pool.
