My pair of NOS 3/8ths ratchets came in yesterday. Interesting to see the cardboard box with the metal corner pieces... They had the directions for rebuilding in some literature wrapped around the handles. Great finish, great action. Interesting that the 2rebuild kits that were included did not include selector levers. I guess you were expected to reuse the old ones...

Last week I saw an Indestro Super 2775 at the flea market. It was locked up so I didn't get it. I went back to the flea market today and it was still there. I couldn't pass it up twice. Since I bought several sockets the salesman gave me the ratchet for free. Ten minutes with PB Blaster in the parking lock, it was freed up.
Once I got home, I cleaned up what I could and dropped it in some rust eliminator solution. Forty-five minutes later I took it out, dried and lubed it. It feels great and has a smooth action. I suppose I'll start collecting more. I have a 3275 ratchet as well but it is way too nice to be used. It's in mint condition.

Found a couple old Duro items at an estate sale yesterday. A 2081 9/16" X 5/8" half moon or elbow DBE with the "G" mark indicatingn wartime production, and a 2243 9/16" thin combo wrench with the "X" mark also for wartime production. The 2243 isn't branded, but per an AA example this is consistent with Duro p/n - size and style.

As I posted earlier on the 2018 garage sale thread, I found this Duro box at an estate sale on Friday. On Saturday I transferred my WW2 D-I keeper set into it and moved the other sets into the other boxes. This ratchet came from eBay for the lower right set.

Ratchet oddity??
Bonneyman (post 316) shows a photo of a blow-molded box that, like mine, seems to call for a pear headed barrel handled ratchet. I just found a barrel handled 3/8 flex ratchet, but it's round headed - doesn't fit my set anyway because it's too long.
Going through a lot of this thread I didn't see a single example of the pear-barrel combination.
Is this a unicorn or just rare?

Found some Duro-Indestro family pieces today, including a WWII 25/32" "-D-I-" spark plug socket with a tommy bar hole and a pair of Duro-made WARD'S CHROMIUM VANADIUM sockets (1-1/8" and 11/16" S 8-point).

Here is an early Duro/D-I 3/8” drive set I’ve been putting together for quite a while. The ratchets are two different Duro Chrome models. The uppermost row of sockets are D-I marked. The next row down are Duro marked. The single socket and flex handle are earlier and marked Chromium Vanadium. The extensions are not Duro.

I picked up an interesting hex-drive set today, not sure what. I only have a pdf of the 1935 catalog, and there's no large set of hex drive in it, just a bunch of smaller ones. There is a square-drive No1536 36-piece "12 Point" Master Socket Set, and this somewhat resembles it, except these are 6-point / hex-drive.
I'm not sure what to make of the ½" square drive ratchet, plug, and extension. There is no hex/square adapter, so I'm thinking they aren't part of the original set.

Found this along with a Proto 4011(no jaws), a Plomb punch, and a Proto punch for $10, I think I did ok.
1/2" drive, very high drag course tooth action, but it will be my truck tool-box ratchet when I put a tool kit together for whatever I may need. I like it, sorry for poor pics.

Do these qualify for this thread? One of my favorite flea market finds. I have looked at catalogs and googled many times. I cant seem to find any information on the Vise or when it might have been produced.

Absolutely! I can't recall seeing either a vise or anvil by Indestro, (almost certainly contracted) What does the vise weigh? 6-8 lbs?

Vise is right at 10 lbs, Anvil 8 lbs. Vise jaws are not removable. and are 3" wide.

Hell yeah..., and I can see why! A matching pair - and I highly doubt anyone else has both!
Does this imply you did find the anvil in a catalog or ad? When was the anvil made? It's a very good bet they were made around the same time, Rags. Same features. Same forged in marking. Same original red paint. It's too bad four.cycle is on a hiatus. His family owned some kind of tool business (can't remember if it was retail or distributing) and they carried Indestro. These are certainly older than that, but he accumulated a lot of knowledge about Indestro through that experience. When he comes around again, he may be able to help. I have not found anything on the anvil either. I have not looked through that thread but you can bet I will this evening! I have always wanted to find the info on that pair. that's really cool four.cycles family-owned store sold that stuff. I grew up in a family owned auto parts store as well run by my grandfather and dad for 45 years after Gf got back from WW2. My dad just told me our store carried challenger, then SK, and then Proto. and we had al the old tool boards in the storage when we sold the store. They all went with it. We had a lot!

it is! I was digging around in some of my grandfathers stuff just a bit ago and found 2 challenger and 2 proto drivers that were his. Prob from our store.

I looked at that entire thread and did not see any vises or anvils... some I couldnt read well when blown up though. I have a hunch these may be pretty old. The handle has the rounded end on it. I was under the impression that was an older style on vises. Maybe not though...
Page 48 of the 1935 Indestro catalog shows a 9lb, 3” jaws, swivel base vise finished with baked red japan. No.1566. Looks like yours with the “meatball.”

I was always under the impression those unmarked sockets with stars were produced by BOG. Not that I have evidence.

On the BOG page, AA site describes BOG as having similar stars, but generally multiple stars, while Indestro used only one on each side of the fractions. I didn’t see BOG examples that didn’t include manufacturer name. And the examples I did see have fractions formatted like “1/2” whereas Indestro formatted like “1-2” below 1”, at least the ones I have. Also when found in context with Indestro boxes and Indestro-marked tool handles, I doubt they’re BOG.
